I stand to be corrected, but I don't believe that Connolly has much if anything to do with the playing side of things. I don't think he even sits in the coach's box on gameday.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

Some people are way too negative these days, looking to criticise everything and anything, whether its warranted or not.

Facts is, this administration has brought us back from the brink of existence in every way possible. We no longer have the debt-axe held over our head, and we've been re-introduced to our rich culture and heritage in a big way, all while stepping into state-of-the-art facilities for the first time in 50 years.

Our coach has also taken us from a complete rabble, to now be considered probably the number 1 up-n-coming team going forward. Sure, we're going to face hurdles along the way, and we'll only really be contending from 2013, but the steadfastness and dedication to the rebuild has been admirable and effective.

Lets appreciate the successes of the past 18 months, and be patient enough to know that we can only really expect real onfield success for another 18 months.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show, while we wait for Scully, Trengove, Morton, Grimes, Watts, Gysberts, Tapscott and Cook and co to actually get to 50 AFL games and have 4-5 pre-seasons. Because I'm pretty certain it will be worth the wait

Petterd played Round 1, 2011. Rushed back from a minor hamstring...but wasn't he the sub and showed be was fit on the day? Yep...gotcha.

Frawley, is our most important player. He could have played round 1 also but was given an extra week. Not my definition of rushed back.

Morton had a finger injury so didn't really lose fitness. Came back as the sub, perfectly fine decision.

Imagine if we play Scully before round 12. You would probably call that rushing him back too.

One difference ox is that Scully has been unable to run, he will lack aerobic fitness I cannot imagine him coming straight in without time at Casey.

As the GM of Football Operations I presume he has a fair input into who and how we are coached. If not, what is he doing and if not, why not and if not, let's get someone who does and put Connolly in charge of club PR. (you're doing really well if you understand that sentence) Anyway are Bailey's assistants up to the task at hand and wasn't Wellman taken from us far too easily. We NEED the best coaches, if we haven't got them I presume this review would have shown that, and personally that is exactly what I think it showed. I think the FD is under the pump but only time will tell.

MFC Brains Trust, is that an oxmoron like Army Intelligence?

Like your work DC, very good.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
