Rookie List Players

Featured Replies

Is this some sort of record, we have 6 players in the team that have come off the Rookie List, Junior, Davey, Warnock, Jamar, Jordie and now Hughes. This is fantastic recruiting by the club and shows that it's not just the top picks that make a club successful.

We've always been good at getting rookies to come through: Jolly, Simmonds, Woewodin, Robbo (I think?). We seem to be very good at getting ruckmen off our rookie list in particular. And if people remember Damien Peverill I believe was on our rookie list back in the late 90's before he got his go at Essendon.

IMHO thats the sign of a good quality professional recruiting & development staff.

How you pick & develop your lower & rookie draft picks ... sadly, you cant get them all right.

IMO development of players has been one major drawback at the MFC for a long time.

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
