Bail- That he can play senior football

Batram- That he is worth another contract

Bate- He can be a top 5 player at the club and a 30+ goalkicker

Bennell- He has the attributes to be the next andrew mcleod as a lot of people have said

Blease- He can get over his leg injury and maintain his pace

Bruce- He can still play an important role and that he is a strong leader

Davey- That he is able to move into the midfield and successfully break a hard tag

Dunn- He is able to cement his spot in the side and that he can call a position his own

Fitzpatrick- That he has the ability to play as a key stand alone full forward.

(presumably as casey)

Frawley- Can he take the next step and be an elite backmen

Garland- Can he get over his injury and that he can show ability as a full forward

Gawn- That he can get over his injury

Green- Same as bruce

Grimes- That he can make the transition to the midfield

Gysbert- That he has the talent to be a future tall mid for the demons

Jamar- That he can get over his injury and show that he deserves to be the demons #1

ruckman

Jetta- He can be our small forward who can kick some goals

Johnson- That he deserves a spot on our list

Jones- That he can cover the loss of mclean and that his foot skills are up to AFL

standard

Jurrah- That his first year was not a fluke

McDonald James- That he can still play a role for the demons in 2010

McDonald Joel- He has the ability to play that quaterback role for the demons

McNamara- That he is able to play at AFL level

Maric- Same as Jetta

Martin- That he is still showing signs of improvement and that he can play a major role

in the ruck

Miller- That his kicking for goal has improved and that he is able to provide a

consistent contest in the forward line

Maloney- Same as Jones and that he can stay injury free for another year

Morton- That he can consistently play at a good to elite level in the AFL

Rivers- That he has the capacity to be adaptable in playing on either a tall and mid

sized forward

Petterd- He can become an important player in our forward line and he can maintain his

defensive pressure.

Scully- That he has the ability to be a future star at melbourne.

Strauss- That he has the ability to be in the senior side.

Sylvia- That he can play at an elite level consistently

Spencer- That he can step up and fight to be our number 1 ruckman

Trengove- Same as Scully

Tapscott- He has the capacity to be guy who we could rely upon to bob up and kick 2-3

goals a game

Warnock- He is able to compete and beat some quality key forwards

Watts- Same as scully and trengove

Woonameri- That 08 was not a fluke and that he is able to get over injury

Sorry to those players who I missed but they are my thoughts. I am sure plenty of you will disagree and am happy to hear your views.

If Frawley is to become an elite defender (Scarlett is the level he should be aiming for... better to set the bar too high) one area he needs to improve is his kicking. Frawley has some very good attributes like being able to close down his opponent and win the ball in tight situations then clear with run and handballing. But he has an awkward kicking style so is probably never going to be great by foot (like a Davey or Gilbee) but I will be happy enough if he gets to the stage where he makes the right decision and hits the target under pressure every time. Scarlett doesn't have a fluent kick or even a long kick but has developed it over his career to the point that I am genuinely surprised if he makes a mistake or turns it over.

Rivers has shown at times that he can shut down the oppositions 2nd or 3rd tall and at others that he can help out his team mates on the last line. What I want to see from him is that he can consistantly keep his man quiet for 4 quarters and still be the 3rd man up to provide help for Warnock & Frawley with the bigger forwards like Brown, Fevola, Hall etc. Now that he is back to full fitness and a full season under his belt there is no reason he can't return to his Rising Star form.

He's WELL on the way to the Scarlett-type of kick. Not pretty but rarely goes anywhere but to advantage. I'm introducing footy to a yank at the moment (in installments) and he's very impressed with Frawley, which was a surprise.

Dunn - needs game time to prove himself and thus needs a position to play in. I like him as a forward flanker who can play on the Heath Shaw types and limit their rebound as well as popping up for 1 - 3 goals. This is what I'm hoping they've been grooming him for but only time will tell. 2010 of vital importance to his career as a Demon.

Petterd - Will they persist with him as a forward. I'm a big fan and believe his best footy is as a half back/winger. In saying that I thought he played some good footy as a forward. No doubting he could play midfield but competition for spots is going to get tighter. I'm betting he'll take whatever position is offered and produce some fine football - One to watch in 2010.

Bate - Has the potential to become a super important component in our forward line. Needs to kick some more goals. Can he hold down a key position or will he play a little further up the ground and send the ball deep with his prodigious kick. For mine I think he sits on the opposite flank to Dunn, gives his opponent hell and kicks some goals from 60metres out. In 2010 we will possibly see how good this kid is going to be. Comes with continued rave reviews and although I rate him I'm not sure how high that rating is - 2010 may well tell.

Maric - Lets hope he stays injury free and has a chance to show us how good he can be. 2010 is not make or break for him but if Jetta and Wonaeamirri turn it on he will be wanting to show something. I hold no fears about Maric and reckon he'll be a gun.

Jones - Love the guy, wears his heart on his sleeve and will continue to work extremely hard on all aspects of his game. Will never be as good as Judd but could he become as good as Todd Viney? I hope he persists with his bash and crash and learns to shake himself through the tackles like Todd could. In a few years it could come down to him or Moloney for the in and under spot in the team. Personally I think Jonesy's the better player. With the likes of Scully, Trengove, Grimes and Morton around he will have some rich talent to support. Expect more improvement in 2010 but will see his best in 2012-2016. Can't wait!

Personally 4 out of the 5 players I've mentioned will have a big say in how well we travel this year. They all need to take their games forward if we are to improve significantly.
