"We highlighted some of the efforts like Kyle Cheney, who was one of the guys cramping, but he managed to walk nine kilometres cramping without complaining at all.

"Guys went out of their way to help him and they spoke about how much more trust they've got in him, because he won't let them down on game day."

"We've had some really good examples. Guys had to walk eight kilometres up a hill and some were cramping in their quaddies and calves. Blokes were willing to take their packs and help them out for a while.

"They also gave them a rub down, so those things help develop trust."

Fantastic to see the team bonding and pushing one another, but from an elite performance perspective is this the ideal way to challenge your body? Especially given the recurring nature and frequency of soft tissue tears in footy.

I somehow doubt that the sophisticated training methods employed by the world class clubs would have their athletes doing this kind of training ie does Kobe do it?....if he does..then rock on!

Fair point. I wonder if the club would send our fitness staff on a tour of the USA to look into the conditioning of their athletes? Not just the NBA but the NFL would give us some very good information.

matee we train to be afl players with a contact sport we dont need to compare what we do to kobe (as good as he is)

also like what bulldogs have done with the triathlon training.

Great stuff! I might be old-fashioned, but I can't see anything but positives from this initiative ..... absolutely no negatives at all!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
