good mark, good kick, great leap. dont see why he hasnt been given a better go personally. defensive pressure is over-rated as a forward. fevola and richo never do jack-all defensive pressure(unless angry by a bad umpires decision) and they are the face of their respective clubs. If i was coaching he would have kicked 40 goals last year.

Seriously, defensive pressure over rated???!!!! Please dont compare Richo and Fev to Newton.

Richo has an amazing tank and a will to compete (if a little wobbly on the kicking, Fev is a dropkick who on his day is in the best couple of players in the land.

Newton has taken as many screamers as given second efforts. Make no mistake I want him to be better, he purely needs to realise that footy is won and lost at the coalface not sitting on someones head once a month.

Great post, but disagree with this point.

We need to suck up a 4-18 season, in order to get picks and 1 and 2 in the National draft next year. We need to get the best forward and midfielder available, and that will officially complete the rebuild.

We clearly dont have a list that is good enough to play finals. At best we'll win 6 or 7 games but still finish 13th or 14th and miss out on awesome draft picks. I don't see the point, and I'm wondering if the MFC coaching staff agree??

2010, is when we'll make a play for the 8.

On the mark BBP. As much as it pains to say there will be more hurting next year and in the long run it will be of great benefit to the club. We need more

priority picks next year as our list is exciting and promising but not yet complete. Only more top picks will be sufficient to add to the list and for this to

happen we must endure more of 08 and 07 like seasons. This is a rebuilding phase that we dont want to revisit anytime soon so one more year of anguish

will help ensure our future prosperity.

However I too feel your enthusiasm with the current crop. The pain of losing week after week will be offset by being able to watch the young list develop and

feel the excitement watching young stars in the making. I can't wait to see Grimes in 09, watch Morton take another step and the likes of Martin gain more

on field confidence and experience. Add to this the exciting prospect of Mr Watts taking the field at some point towards the end of the year and confirming

the hype of Jurrahs talent. The list goes on. The enthusiam shown by our young daring list on the ground will only be matched by the enthusiam and

excitement of MFC supporters watching and dreaming from the sidelines. Go D boys.

Im not accepting at all that we need another years pain.. why?? what does this accomplish to play to a dismal year again ? NONE..its stupid. We have a lot of youth..we have a lot of raw talent.. We HAVE some more games coming into last years crop. Of course last years back end was a tad lack lustre.. we were semi-tanking ffs !! But it doesnt mean we will play that way next year . Losers play to lose.. not the way forward for us I would proffer.

Yes we are rebuilding.. ..but we havent started now.. we started last year.

Some players who took their foot off the pedal last year will be seriously paranoid in 09 as the kids nibble at their heels for inclusion.

Will be very interersted to see how we go early in the practice , NAB and such.

We had a vry poor start..both with injuries and setup .. This wont be the case n 09.

Listening to Jimbo at the summit and elsewhere reminds me of a Sunday in the G carpark in late September

1986. It was the family day and it was pouring with rain and everybody [ there wernt many] were huddled under

those big whatever trees.

We were lucky as under our tree was the new coach, John Northey. He spoke of our young players and the

as he saw it, it was riviting listening to him. The enthusium was there for everyone listening, to feel your skin

tingling as you listened and were carried along his ride.

We didnt do so bad in 1987 did we?

Im not saying 2009 is another 1987 but I dont believe its another 2008 either.

There is no 11th commandment saying we have to go down to go back up, lets just hope for a good year with

injuries, improvement in our new back line, a bit of pace and skill in passing the ball and GO for it.

Back the team, back the club and death to all the others playing OUR game.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
