Sunday bloody Sunday

Garry Lyon had a little grizzle on Footy Classified the other night about how many Sunday matches the Demons have played.

Our last five games have been played on Sundays and we have 7 of our next 8 on a Sunday also. The only non-Sunday game happens to be the Monday of Queen's Birthday. We have a total of 15 for the year. 15 out of 22. That's just over 66%.

I'm not sure whose stupid idea it was to request so many Sunday games. I could understand why we were Sunday conscious in the early part of this decade when Joe Gutnick was our president, but I have to agree with Garry - it's far from ideal. Particularly when Sunday is a junior footy day for most kids. We apparently have the lowest number of Auskick registered kids barracking for our club. Perhaps the AFL think they're inconveniencing the least amount of people by giving us Sundays, but we need to be proactive and accommodate for all our supporters. And that means an equitable mix of timeslots for our games.

We didn't request it, in fact Gardner came out after the draw and said how dissapointed he was at how many Sunday games we got. Not to mention the lack of night games, it's a joke that we've got just 1 Friday night game for the WHOLE year.

When Gazza was talking about the Sunday games, Carro had the nerve to say that there wasn't any difference between Sunday games and the other timeslots. I was shocked at her remarks, it's common knowlege that not only is it a lower drawing day, but a lot less TV exposure.

Bottom line is that next year they'd better make up for it by giving us some decent timeslots, ESPECIALLY if they are going to reduce/discontinue the CBF. The only way they can even out the competition is to take away the high exposure slots from the likes of Collingwood and Essendon, and give them to Us, the Doggies, and the Kangas.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The final game of the 2025 Season is finally upon us and the Demons may have an opportunity to spoil the Magpies Top 4 aspirations when they face them on Friday Night. Who comes in and who goes out?

The Demons were sloppy all day and could not stop the run and carry of the fast moving Hawthorn as the Hawks cruised to an easy 36 point win. Is the season over yet?
