He had a chance to kick his second and he absolutely shanked it. Brown would have slotted that through.

I think BBB needs to come in next week and the Dees need to think long and hard about getting something back for him in the trade period whilst he has some trade value.

I still reckon Weid would make a good CHB, he has good hands, size and mobility. Can he read the play? Don’t know. Is he a bit like Darcy Moore he may be better value back than forward. But of course we don’t have a need back unless we decide to throw Petty forward and Weid back?

Does anyone still seriously hold that Weideman is up to AFL standard?

Unfortunately the jury is still out as this game was a horror for all the tall forwards, our delivery was [censored]. TMacc good early but then nothing. Jackson better in the ruck and the Weid had 3 shots but not accurate. If we trust BB as a more accurate set shot we should go with him.

Still can’t believe the chances we had to kill it off. That run through the middle where we were off and then just dropped it and turned it over which led to a goal had me tearing hair out.

I also still can’t believe how easily we gave away the centre clearance after Clarry’s brilliant goal late.

Which one exactly we fumbled so uncharacteristicly all day

Nibbler the only one bothering to appeal for the free.

The deliberate out of bounds could be no clearer. I am expecting the AFL umpiring department to admit the error just as they have admitted game changing errors favouring Geelong this year.

I thought Weid was buffeted and had his arms chopped every time he went for a mark, same as BB, both without any free kicks while Blues got soft frees all game. That said it wasn’t a great game from Weid and BB was poor. It will take time.

Yes definitely thought there were two sets of rules in play for the big forwards yesterday. McKay got 2 pretty soft ones awarded for chopping arms that ended in goals but up the other end Weid and Fritsch seemed get similar treatment but play on?

  6. Gee Saints did some coach killing stuff tonight. Under 15 errors at times, 20m passes missing their target and as we know if you don’t nail multiple set shots from inside 30m you ain’t going to win anything. Geelong gets another 4 points to add to the other 8 pts they should not have.

  7. I agree to an extent. Not now but perhaps in the next 5 weeks we need to look at it. Happy to rest a mid and let Gus go in the middle for couple of games. Rest a big forward to give Weid a run. Generally if players at Casey are knocking the door down you should give them a taste.

In no way was that the same and you know it. Fritsch knew what he was throwing his elbow at. Hawkins was flailing about due to a jumper tackle by May.

But scream at the sky if you want, IDGAF.

Yes when you slow it down it looks premeditated. Try playing at normal speed, in a second, I grab possession in heavy traffic, I see a tackler coming at me at speed and low, I fend off or take the full force of the hit/tackle. This is not the case of a tackler choosing to bump rather than tackle the ball carrier, this is a ball carrier facing an aggressive tackler and looking to protect himself and escape traffic. Hawkins flailing about is careless too! A bit like Steven King rearranging Jeff White’s face with a flailing boot back in 2005. Deemed to be just one those things!

Not disagreeing, but how did the same criteria not result in Hawkins getting a week?

It seems it all depends on the AFL definitions for accidental vs careless. Is it as simple as if you aren’t looking at the guy you hit, it’s accidental. If you are looking at him it’s careless?

Sets a pretty high standard does Steven! 25 touches, 14 marks, 550 metres gained!

Yes great stats but did look uncharacteristically fumbly early but that was because our midfield was applying zero pressure up field in the first half, allowing North to bring the ball with ease, straight through the centre corridor, a backman’s nightmare. But when we needed May he delivered I thought, so I gave him votes.

    Baker is not AFL standard.

    Melksham awful.

Gawn has been dominated by Goldstein.

Oliver and Trac need to get a hold of the midfield.

    McDonald missing.

    North not missing a kick.

North not missing a kick as they have numbers around the ball and waltzing straight through the corridor. Can’t believe our lack of pressure on the ball carriers. Max having a shocker seems to have an effect on everyone. May looks shaky, TMac absent many others ball watching. Oliver and Tracc need to take control in the second half. Jonesy has been good.

  12. What’s changed?

Lever, May, have finally clicked working as a well drilled unit now with Tomlinson allowing Lever to play the old Josh Gibson role intercepting everything.

numbers around the ball, replaying the match today I was astounded at how good we were on the outside against the benchmark, Richmond. Langdon has been huge for us and Brayshaw is becoming very good on the other wing. The Hunt/Langdon running duet must be giving opposition coaches nightmares. We still have the inside grunt but now there are numerous outlets. The way we flicked the ball around against the Tiges was the equal of the Bulldogs so kudos to Yze I believe.

Delivery into the forward line has totally transformed. Gee TMac must be so pleased that he is not camped in the goal square with the 50 meter bomb coming in on top of his head surrounded by 3 defenders who know exactly where the ball is going. Now the ball carriers are running the ball to the fifty and lowering their eyes looking for a moving target. Why that has taken so long I have no idea?

And looking at individuals Max is just playing an extraordinary role, dominating the ruck and dominating the air to an extent I haven’t seen since Jimmy’s Brownlow year.

And Langdon has been a great recruit giving us so much run on the outside and because he is always there as an outlet I believe he gives others the confidence to go for the ball in traffic knowing he will always be to you left or right for a receive.

Lever of course, now in All Australian form, and with May allowing Salem the time and space to maximise his attacking strength off half back.

One of the most brutal suffocating performances I've seen from this football club in a long time. We came with a plan and executed perfectly. Out coached an all time great, stood up to every attempt of physical bullying and lastly, we tooled them in pretty much every statistic.

The thing I still can't get my head around is the mental side, how have we managed to turn this around so quickly? I don't how how but I also don't care the fact is they have so far and I'm loving it. I am so proud of this footy club right now with the wat challenges come and we dont go to water, the keyword is 'calm'. Its about focusing on what we are right now and not what we've been, we are on the way back to where we thought we should be and the improvement has come from many areas.

Petracca is a bonafide big time player now and you can see he relishes the big stage. I did have Salem BOG personally but hardky disappointed with that choice. Tom Mcdonald's last 3 games have impressed me to no end, his work rate and ability to keep presenting is a massive part of all this. Spargo, ANB, Kozzy with their relentless 2nd, 3rd, 4th efforts. Throw Jackson into that as well, man this kid has a few clubs in the bag! Did I see a hitout from Gawn to him at one stage?

This is coming close to the best backline I've seen from Melbourne. You feel very confident when you see a high flying ball and Lever positioning under it. Tomlinson playing his role perfectly (yes I was one of his doubters), he's found j is niche. Just on that I saw him on the Sunday footy show and he's a exceptionally well spoken lad!

Hibbo tagged Dusty out of the game until his injury another great move. I thought Gawn started slow but really grew as the gane went on.

How about our 2nd 300 gamer? Has a defined job and does it well, pretty safe in the team for now I would say. I look at Jayden Hunt who was pretty much an expert in dashing and belting the cover off the ball, this guy is seriously playing to his strengths and i lpve the way he is timing his runs off the ball to get the quick handball. Bravo Jayden.

I haven't fully seen what happened yet in the Pickett scenario but free kick or not I was so proud to see our boys over there in a flash. Huge contrast to games last year where no-one got around anyone.

I could go on forever but we'll leave it at that. It's nice to have some more stable post match posts! far cry from the borderline losing my mind posts from late last season. Lid is off until tomorrow for me, going to enjoy the heck out of this for the remainder of the weekend which is T-minus something amount of hours.

    Go Dees!

Agree it is exciting. The missing piece for me is the inability of our midfielders to take full advantage of Max’s hit out dominance in the centre and at other stoppages. Get that right and we become close to unstoppable while Max is playing and flying.
