  1. The horse has trained well and connections think he's a good chance. Best fixed I have seen so far is $13. They thought the horse might be longer odds than that. The aim is to be on pace again and hoping the horse gets an easy run across from the wide barrier. He will get back to me tomorrow lunchtime with the final thoughts and I will post an update. Hope you all had a good final day of the Flemington carnival.
  2. Nice tale Wadda. Dan Zephyr was certainly hot a couple of years ago winning 3 in a row in town. My mate is not a fan of Rhys McLeod but he seems to be the Pat Carey stable jockey. Michael Dee has a better strike rate on the horse. I see it's drawn wide and does it's best racing on pace so it might have to work early unless they change tactics.
  3. Missrock has been a tad costly for me in the past but at those odds she might be worth a little each way. If it's a hot pace she may indeed run on Macca.
  4. I did like Tom Melbourne when markets first opened up but I see they scratched it so I'll have to do some more reading later on. On another note a friends horse is running on Sunday at Ararat in the China Bowl. Dan Zephyr is the name, he won the same race last year. Connections bypassed a Group 3 at Flemington for this race. The horse is 3rd up this preparation, last run wasn't very good but first up he was unlucky as he was boxed in and couldn't get a clear run. I'll have more information tomorrow to see if it's worth a few bucks.
  5. Thanks Ethan, you recommended " The Fall", finished all of it and enjoyed it. The wife and I just finished Stranger Things season 1 and we loved it. Onto season 2, keep recommending the good stuff.
  6. Yes he was hindered by injury since the 2015 cup but reportedly still possesses a devastating sprint. 73kg is excessive, not sure how common that is over there. Being a quality horse maybe that was his penalty in such a weak handicap. He paid a whopping $1.40 that day.
  7. Good morning, no he didn't, he's only had 4 runs since the 2015 cup. He won last start overseas carrying 73kg in what I believe was an $18,000 race. Smart move I guess. Comes in at a good weight.
  8. There's always great debate about certain runners gaining starts in the great race and hard luck stories of horses missing out. It wouldn't be difficult in this day and age to alter a few numbers in the system and allow emergencies to gain a start especially when there is a scratching two days out. Will the VRC ever head down that path?
  9. $9 is the best I have seen so far, was hoping it would blow out a bit more after drawing 16.
  10. Barrier draw commencing shortly. Really liked the run of Marmelo in the Caulfield cup and looks better suited over 3200m.
  11. Nice work. The quaddie dividend surprised me as well. I cost myself by leaving out Ace High, almost as inexcusable as our Rd 23 performance. Huge win. You would have thought I jumped on this thread for a reason. I liked Tom Melbourne today and ProperDee talked up Shillelagh so I took the quinella. Happy to end up in front on Derby day.
  12. If nothing works for any of you today maybe this article can bring the fellas some luck. https://www.google.com.au/amp/m.huffingtonpost.com.au/amp/2017/11/02/tiberian-the-worlds-most-unlikely-melbourne-cup-horse-came-from-caesar-the-teaser-pony_a_23265188/
  13. Sorry mate, I didn't mean to sound like I had full ownership in one of my previous posts, I was only involved in a small percentage of a broodmare and inherited the same percentage in all her foals. Problem was the syndicate manager took her to stud every year for 6 years and the costs were too high in the end. Your not wrong about needing luck just to break even.
  14. Main Stage in the Derby is part owned by Dusty and a few other Richmond boys. I won't be backing it because I don't do Richmond well but everything they touch has turned to gold this year especially Mr Main Stage himself.
  15. Cheers Macca, Derby day is my favourite and like you mentioned best betting day on the calendar. I owned a few horses myself but sold out about two years ago. A friend in Sydney stayed in and needless to say those horses ended up multiple city winners. He gets some tips from the Waterhouse camp but no success lately. ProperDee mentioned horses that have finished top two in their most recent starts figure prominently and that's a pattern I have followed lately. I can't wait for the tribe to go to bed tonight, a lot of reading to do.
  16. Hi, I'm a bit late to the party and just started discovering other threads. I thoroughly enjoy horse racing especially this time of year and I'm looking forward to future discussions and thoughts from you.
  17. Thanks for mentioning “The Fall”. Into season 2 and thoroughly enjoying it.
  18. When is Lever back from Europe? Bring on his first interview with Burgo already!!
  19. How nice of us to pack him an MFC polo for his trip to Europe.
  20. According to the following, we will be going to the draft with picks 27,35 and 45. http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-10-12/melbourne-secures-lever-in-trade-deal?camefrom=EMCL_1895168_76481353
  21. First class, nice work Snake, could have taken a little less cash so the club hired something better than the acoustic duo we had to put up with during the B&F.
  22. This is childish by Adelaide if true. It's ok Jake, I'm sure we can find you a spot at our B&F on Monday night, your most welcome to attend.
  23. Should Bernie be worried about his upcoming wedding? If I was Bernie I'd throw a late invite to Lever.
  24. No mention of duration.
  25. Liked what Mahoney said. Other clubs offered more than us for Lever yet he chose us. Also Hogan going nowhere!
