The Power of Social Media in the AFL
Satyriconhome replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
So again, as MFC is a footy club, what content should be on the social media platforms to engage. Most posters on this topic have stated yes great idea, MFC is rubbish at the moment, but have not said what content they think the club should be putting on the platforms. Maybe, and this is for the more mature on here, maybe one of the players in a Jack Thompson pose? That may get the more cosmopolitan involved. -
The Power of Social Media in the AFL

I was quoting the cost of hiring additional staff, nobody works for free these days, spend money on what, MFC is a footy club, it plays footy, so therefore the social media posts should contain what? Everybody seems besotted with what the Hawks did, they didn't do it, the players did, I follow most on the MFC list, so I see the non footy feeds, is this what you want to see on the club's feeds, "here is Ed Langdon in South America on holiday, buy a membership" I can see that working, all the young followers, "gee that looks a great place let's go on holiday to South America" I would like somebody to answer why there is no male AFL player who has come out as gay? -
The Power of Social Media in the AFL

Too many replies, to quote, I am all for Social Media, I have accounts on Insta, Facebook and X, not sure which bit of the club needs to improve their presence, those answering my post, have you looked at those this week, do you actually follow them so they appear in your feed? If the Club website is boring, what do you want to see on there? MFC is a footy club The club has posted 3 times today on Insta, as well as the players. If you want superfluous content, then suggest something. Employ a team of young kids? Have you any idea of the money they want SWYL? I do coz my daughter does it. They don't do it for free or the love of the club, I would prefer any spare money put into the Footy Dept, start winning and successful finals campaigns and the support and membership will follow. Here is a question about Social Media and see if somebody can answer, why has no male AFL player come out in public and announced they are gay, perhaps they are fearful of the reaction Sam Kerr received with her announcement. Social Media can be a bonus or a cesspit. Have a look at the vitriol that's expressed after a loss on the clubs feeds or the players feeds Member engagement will be more about what members think or want to see the Club do, so we don't get a repeat of the Lawrence situation, I would assume we may get a few more forums to participate in. -
The Power of Social Media in the AFL

Unfortunately whilst the pall of the old boys network of the MCC, the ski trips and the cheese boards continues to hang over the club, which slowly but surely is being eradicated, the appeal of the MFC to the younger generation might be a slow build, The club continually provides communications, if supporters could be arsed reading or looking at them, there has been posts everyday since training resumed, on the Clubs Insta and Facebook feeds, plus interviews with Jones, Bassett, Campbell and Sharpe, the fixture list with Tholstrup and AMW, there has been clips on Youtube also, etc etc so your point is? -

I tend to disagree, it may try and attract a 'younger' audience, but getting them to buy memberships and go to games is another matter completely, I think a lot of the Hawks membership is all smoke and mirrors, by offering cheaper short term memberships to pump up the numbers. It needs success on the field as well, if the Hawks do not continue their on field success it will soon fall away, attention span of a goldfish and all that. The lack of social media exposure has not affected sponsorship, which is were the money is, the sponsors still want to see the logo on TV or streaming channels and of course access to the membership database -

Excellent reporting again, thanks, 37 degrees, you actually believe the Melbourne forecast, it will probably be hail and high winds. -

Hi Cap'n, speaking to a couple of 'sources' I know, they told me the rankings should be pretty similar across the board from all clubs. Different strokes I suppose. -

If they go the way the normally do, I asked once, as most clubs do, they rank every available player from 1 to whatever, dependent on the picks, some clubs may have a slightly different ranking, but this years draft is so even, most will probably be the same. They obviously cross out from the list as they get picked. How Oliver came from nowhere in his draft year, we obviously had him ranked higher than other clubs. -

Irony....the use of to try and de crease the attacks by the small select but highly vociferous cohort on here who have an aversion to an opposing opinion/viewpoint. Back on topic, discussed with Mr Windsor at the B&F the early comparison to Robbie Flower, told him to watch some vision -

Holier tha thou, I just have an opinion, I don't sulk and pout if some don't agree. I don't care, I do not need others seal of approval I have thoroughly enjoyed the reports and picture, it is a forum, open for discussion, all viewpoints I was pleased with the love for Clarry it bodes well for him to be back to his best. Again put me on ignore, I have already reciprocated -

That's OK I regarded it as pre-judgement, perhaps wrongly, not a fan of that. Like training is training, so not a fan of reporting the minutiae more interested as some have reported on, the mental side, the few sessions I attended last pre season, the physical effort was there but the fun had gone along with the determination. Sounds like the review has had an impact already, but the proof occurs at the end of March not mid November. I don't care if somebody misses a kick or handball, 4 months to get it right. -

You really need to follow Clarry on his socials, apart from a few tabs and bevies at the races, he trained throughout -

My 'source' told me a theme of the exit interviews was as expected, take a mental break, but we need to be even fitter than before, we lost the edge to run out games -

My apologies, didn't realise I had a separate rule just to myself on how to reply to posters. I hadn't followed his post MFC career closely, so did some catch up. Heard some good reports Rather than what seemed to me a run of the mill pre judgement that is prevalent on here. I thought it is another shrewd recruitment along with Bassett and Chunk. I actually absorb as much news about my club as I can, this means if I talk to anyone from the club, I come from an informed position. Why I enjoyed WCW reports, put a human face on the players, good to see the reports are still happening, despite the efforts of the 'Boys Club' on here You do have the choice of putting me on ignore like I have done upon returning to a select few posters. I have an opinion, which is neither right or wrong but it is MY opinion. -

Apologies, Google doesn't do it for me either, I asked some of my more knowledgeable acquaintances also. Demonland is a haven for some to hand wring, disparage other posters and supporters, bemoan recruiting, training, coaches, administration, media team et al. He is a fitness coach on the rise. -

Don't do blogs, bit impersonal, face to face though, lifeskills, how to watch footy but not through the lens of your multi, But all should follow my example, that way they will be better informed before making statements, although there would b a caveat on gleaning information from the modern media, only thing you learn from them is to create news rather than reporting it. -

That is an interesting "rumour", Andy won't change, 45 did belong to somebody who Andy respects, a lot. -

Hi, no, I like to follow all aspects of footy, so when I heard the "rumour" about Couch, I researched, keeps me informed about what the club is up to, same as looking at all the draft profiles of the supposed top 20 in the upcoming draft. Helps me 'understand' the game better. -

Oh sorry, didn't realise I was communicating with the only poster on Demonland who understands footy. As if. Gameplan, you have 6 forwards in the game and one on the bench, how different do you want that to be? How would you, the expert, have changed it, personnel? please explain. Same with the midfield, you need a lot of rotations through there these days, unfortunately due to injury etc we had to rotate 'rookies' in experience, through there, how would you have changed it, please explain. How has the game moved forward, there are no contests now, yet the recruiters are salivating on the next draft crop, because the top end is full of contested ball beasts, sorry I don't understand that, please explain. -

Sorry chap. played the game and have watched it for a tick over 46 years, just don't look for mistakes, which happen to the best, as long as they are kept to a minimum during a game. There were a lot more important on field issues in the last couple of years than skill errors Can I ask seeing, that you opened the door, have you ever played, did you miss a kick, handball, tackle?....I did. -

Aaahhh another supporter who watches the game for mistakes, obviously spoiling their multi. If you listen to Max and I had a chat with him about it, because we have been successful, the pressure was on to repeat and players were not taking a proper break to refresh, physically we were there but mentally I think we were cooked, the impact of both the Brayshaw retirement and serious injury to Trac didn't help, hence the recommendation from the review, footy is supposed to be fun.
