I'd be very surprised if we would be belted like last week if we had our first choice forward line playing. Weather our forwards would dominate is questionable but they would kick valuable goals and provide a target and provide a contest for our forwards and mids to feed off. Our mids must start hitting the scoreboard regularly too.

If garland is fit we might as well play him...if GE blows up from no match fitness sub him.

That they did but it is not acceptable. I played in a very undermanned U17 team from the age of 9 due to being in a country area bereft of lots of kids. Most kids just made up the numbers but we gave it 100% every single game no matter if we were 30 goals down. That's what I expect from our list.

You can put the shite list excuse to the side... Even a shite list can contest everything within the game at 100% of their skill and 100% of the time.

Yeah its fine to say that but given the opposition know loosely where its going and train for it I'd say less than a 50/50 win for Spencer makes getting clearances far more difficult. Add to that you've got nicnat who effectively contests the bounce then plays like a midfielder.

It has everything to do with having a ruckman who would not get a game in any other club playing against 2 of the better rucks in the comp.

Apart from Cotchin the others weren't "messiah" players in their first few years. Ablett carried the weight of his surname but wasn't expected to lift Geelong to the top of the ladder.

I honestly reckon the old club U19 comp was the best idea.. Played before the main game. Either make TAC cup a 2 tier comp U17 and U19 then to draft or as you say a elite U21 comp.

Very good point. Even the coaches acknowledge there's no emphasis on defensive tactics and that the competition is not based on winning premierships. There is also a rule stating they must keep I think 2 players in the fwd 50 at all times. I honestly believe the draft age should be 20.

Well said. As others have mentioned before, in a good club he would earn his stripes in the VFL over his first 2 or 3 years. We sadly have never had that luxury so he finds himself chucked into the team and expected to perform to a level higher than those around him. It is massively unfair on these kids we draft. Wines, Dunstan etc are man child material with physically better prepared bodies for immediate impact but it remains to be seen if they blossom from here or if this is there ceiling.

I think it goes hand in hand. Weather its their trust in their own skill or that of a team mate its something that must change quickly. As Roos said "they are a better team than they think they are". Once they start playing freely and taking some risk like the first NAB game vs the tigers they will look and play like a whimpering mess.

So so true... We look for the safe option for fear of turning it over and turn it over in the process. The teams lack of trust and belief in one another shows up glaringly. Go for the hard option and turn it over I say... At least you can say they were having a go.

His debut and development wasn't ideal but he is a big unit now and runs around like he's 60kg. He is the typical unaccountable demon footballer. He must put his body on the line and he must attack the contest instead of waiting for the easy ball.... He is not alone though!

Make trenners a fwd and give watts a break. His skill is afl standard but his lack of physicality isn't.
