  1. Agree OD, last year he was patchy at best playing half back, which is probably one of the easier positions to play in this day and age. I've always held hope for him however he epitomises what is wrong with our current list- not prepared to dig deep and do the team things when it's not going your way, as well as wanting to play well when it's on your terms.
  2. I enjoy your posts BB, have you thought about stepping into coaching?
  3. Great point. I remember that game thinking the the same. I knew he got heaps of the ball that last quarter (19 I think) but he rarely used them to great advantage. If mick malt house told me that Robbie warnock is a reliable shot for goal, I'd believe him as it's mick malthouse. Buuuuut we've seen Robbie warnock kick for goal and we know that's not true.
  4. Come on OD I'm sure you saw that as tongue in cheek. It would be good to have all of demonland actually proud of a player that we picked though. Seems every year we rubbish one of our own. Yes a lot has been warranted over the past years and that's been done to death, but it's early days for toumpas.
  5. No, I'm saying with viney in there as well, you get the added grunt. People have quickly forgotten how tenacious he is due to his absence. You can't just assume that wines would be playing the same had he gone through the same past 18 months as what the mfc list has. If he had of, and toumpas was playing awesome at port, you'd probably be whinging we should have taken toumpas. The fact is I'm guessing, and so are you. Ollie is at port now, toumpas is here, how about you get behind him? Reason he looks so slow is probably the weight of the usual demonland whingers weighing him down.
  6. Sorry is your point that it's toumpas' fault viney is injured and we didn't have the extra clearance mid that we recruited? What's to say wines wouldn't have had stress prolems if we drafted him? Just because he is playing well over at port doesn't guarantee he would be doing the same here.
  7. I just met a new girl who lives at Richmond, so from now on I'll just walk by the g, swipe my membership then walk straight back to hers! That way it still looks like I was there, but I don't have to watch the 2 hours of touch football that we've been playing! That footage of frawley and Pederson is just disgraceful. I can wear skill errors if they are the exception, but jogging after a player like that 4 minutes in is just incompetent. I've tried to stick up for Pederson but if you can't shepherd your teammate, you might as well go and play golf or something where you can just worry about yourself.
  8. Did you happen to see David Parkin interviewed last week? Mentioned his concussions- he said every time he was rubbish the week after, still hazy week two and by week 3 starting to come good. The panel asked him if 3 week mandatory layoff needs to be introduced. Reason I mention it is you can probably think you are going ok, training and throwing a footy around, but until the intensity gets turned up and you run out on the ground you probably aren't really sure until then.
  9. Not to rubbish col, but did you ever hear that he was showing professionalism at the same standard as say grimes or trengove?
  10. Same, and spun by people telling us what we wanted to hear. It's unfortunate that a new season doesn't actually mean that- a new season, as until we make finals or are regularly competitive, the yearly count of abysmal years will continue. Still, at least we have positives so far this year, as opposed to last year where we were completely rubbish. I mention tyson, jones taking his game to another level, vince and cross adding to the side, regularly having the ball in our hand and not just chasing it defensively. They are there if you look for them, unfortunately scoreboard still says we are 0-2
  11. Definitely, if Adelaide wanted toumpas and our first pick for Dangerfield. But you can't trade toumpas on his current value, as you wouldn't get a feel for his worth. Clearly no team is going to offer pick 4 for him this year.
  12. I wouldn't say we are that impatient, which I think adds to the "messiah" complex. It seems every year we assume it will be better because we have watts, $cully and trengove, Clark, hogan, and now roos. I think this is exactly why everyone is preaching patience, they know it's going to take time to turn it around. Use Richmond as an example a few years back, they started the season horrible, 0-10 from memory, and in the second half of the season when it all clicked, they won 6 or 7. I'm not saying it's going to happen to us, but I just feel that roos and the other coaches can only get so much in at training, and during the season you will see him improve the players- individually and collectively. It's round 2 and while last week was simply unwatchable, for the first time in a long time I can see players putting in and actually trying. Sure mistakes are happening still, but you can't expect players to flick a switch and become sublime with their skills overnight. I feel that judging toumpas now is unfair, and I think a lot of people on here will be eating their words later in the season.
  13. Without getting ahead of ourselves, and I use our past excitement for our forward line as an example, the nucleus of our midfield for 2016 should feature jones, viney, toumpas, vince, michie, Salem, and Tyson. I've deliberately left watts, trengove, grimes etc off purely because it's too hard to tell where they will be by then, and I haven't added Barry, JKH, Reilly or any other young players yet purely as it's too early. I have a very funny feeling that this year could see us trade players we didn't necessarily think were touchable- Howe, trengove, gawn etc.
  14. You did well to hold out to Tuesday OD
  15. Look, as a football lover I do love to watch wines, and I'll include chad wingard who similarly to toumpas, had a poor first season with a team that looked hopeless. The debate about wines vs toumpas is not only ridiculous for it's circumstantial differences, but also for for it's premature timeframe. It's not toumpas' responsibility to lift the team on his own. As long as he plays his part, contributes and learns from his mistakes. If in years 4+ he is still averaging 17 disposals then we can wear it, until then, give him the chance to learn and improve, and turn the blowtorch onto guys with 5+ years experience who are still making the same mistakes as they were back when they had 16 games experience. I really hope that Salem and Viney starts to play some good footy early, so that the same pathetic posters here ridiculing toump can start to see a good drafting/trading decision pay off.
  16. Not to mention shiel, treloar, omera, Martin, Greene, crouch, macrae, prestia... Some of the "supporters" on here are a disgrace. Typically it's the same handful again. Jimmy took a while to get going last year but has improved out of sight since then. It's a shame some of his older, more experienced team mates haven't improved. It's a wonder collingwood didn't cut Scott pendlebury in his first season, or what if essendon cut the painfully slow Jobe Watson? New rule for all afl players- you have to have dominated a game of afl in your first 16 or else you're pigeonholed as NQR.
  17. Right, thanks for that. Hopefully give him the week to recover then throw him forward against the undermanned gws defence! Yeah, right.
  18. Forgot to ask, was gawn about today? Seemed he was a lock to come in, then not named. Not sure if I missed something.
  19. Cheers saty, you cop a lot on this site but I think I speak for most people when I say we would rather read your training reports than go without! Here's hoping they continue!
  20. And I bet crows fans thought the same when they took Dangerfield ahead of rioli, or brad ebert. Hell I bet tiger fans thought that about Cotchin when palmer won that years rising star. The same posters wanting a quick fix on here is getting tiresome. St kilda wouldn't even have wanted Dunstan to play had their midfield been fit. What about the 11 players picked between Salem and Dunstan? Better slag them off too
  21. Every chance you get to rag off on Mitch OD why bring up his wage? He is a Melbourne player, on our list sharing in the salary cap like everyone else. I don't see why you talk about his wage every time, for the life of me you still don't seem to acknowledge it is not mitch's fault he suffered this injury.
  22. As an old coach of mine would say pregame- "games of footy aren't won on faaaarking paper". St kilda look weak, but last year port looked average and had a new coach who had them all on the same page. Alan Richardson strikes me as a quality manager of players, and I could easily see st kilda coming out with a lot if pressure and the younger players having a lot of appetite for the contest. Gee we need to win. Another off season in the news regarding our trading and our injuries, we really need a good solid win to get that excitement back.
  23. I find it disgusting that you call yourself a Melbourne supporter. The tripe you type is repugnant at best.
  24. Exactly. I seem to recall a player who wore the demon jumper for a year or 2 suffering similar ridicule. If you are going to play footy for money, you better be earning it. I think buddy was worth this deal, but 5 years ago.
  25. Reading between the lines, this goes to show how much Mitch is hurting and feeling the disappointment of not being able to get on the park. I really do hope the "supporters" (using that term loosely) who have criticized the club, Mitch and his recruitment can feel pleased now knowing that the "waste of money" some of you have alluded to actually had been doing everything to get back, and that disappointment has now lead to him walking away from the club for a period of time. All the best Mitch, get yourself right and the club and it's true supporters will welcome you back with open arms when you're ready!
