  1. Could probably have had him a couple of years back when his contract was renewed. At that time he was not setting GWS alight.
  2. Not quite but.... https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/enough-is-enough-simon-goodwin-on-personal-attacks-and-the-demons-culture-20240605-p5jjl8.html “I’m not going to disappear down a hole because I love this job too much and I love this life too much. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been easy. There have been times when it has been terrible. It [Goodwin’s brand] has taken a hammering.
  3. Yep Hard to get excited but there's some big games this weekend Losses by any of the Pies, Cats or Lions makes finals that bit harder for each Are the Bombers the real thing after last week's loss
  4. Gets a number of possessions but rarely hurts with his disposal IMO. Certainly one of the better VFL players but the Casey bar is not high these days
  5. This is the reality Didn't think the end would come so quickly but alas we have grounded on Goodwin Sands
  6. Agree... As I mentioned in this thread... following his one game at AFL level he seems to have plateaued at a VFL level I would best describe as competent but unexciting
  7. I believe that was an AFL requirement if you were an AFL funded club such as GWS and GCS. I don't think we fell into that category. Of course we could have put in a break clause but who knows https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/01/21/outgoing-aflca-ceo-lashes-disgraceful-clause-that-bails-out-moron-boards/ Outgoing AFL Coaches Association CEO Mark Brayshaw has slammed an AFL clause that allows clubs to sack coaches and only pay out six months of their contract. The AFL made the move in 2019 for AFL-funded clubs and it kicks in regardless of the length of the coach’s contract. Brayshaw called it a “disgraceful clause” that bails out “moron boards”. “I’ll tell you how (the clause) gets through, the AFL says ‘we’re sick of stupid boards, moron boards, sacking their coaches and paying them out’,” Brayshaw told SEN SA Breakfast. “I used to be on the board at North Melbourne for eight years and have no sympathy whatsoever for any board that extends a contract with its coach and then changes its mind and expects to give them a six-month contract. “The good clubs don’t do that. The big clubs that don’t need the AFL’s money quite as much don’t allow that to happen and I think it’s shameful and I’ll tell you why. Footy clubs, the good ones, have got trust. They’re built on trust.
  8. We'd have a three year payout I believe. It would cripple our soft cap spending. TBH I think Goodwin has the right or at least a better gameplan but he's two years late at implementing it at the Casey level and one year late at the AFL level
  9. Has one of the players imported from other clubs post 2021 established himself in the best 22. I can't think of one Pre-season I had us tagged as a 6-10 club which is most likely correct. The club has lost its way at the Casey level which doesn't help. (Recruitment of Casey listed players)
  10. You won't win a GF with the old gameplan. We know that. I'd rather fail miserably now trying than go out in straight sets against the fast ball moving sides
  11. I like the gameplan at a theoretical level. The problem is that Goodwin had the team playing the boundary for so many years we had lost the fast movement skills necessary for the new gameplan. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than at Casey.
  12. Have you watched Casey lately. We lost to Coburg yesterday... a team that is winless this year and has maybe won five games in the last three years
  13. I think we can call this game now
  14. Almost a full quarter since our last goal. The window is closing
  15. We've never had an NT following... It's a money trip
  16. Hard to get a handle on VFL form given where Casey is as a team.
  17. Strange cats those Crows
  18. Verral centres the ball. Misses by 15 metres. Coburg goal
  19. Coburg winless for this season and a perennial cellar dweller. Not the greatest by Casey
  20. Tholstrup is plateauing. Gets a reasonable amount of the ball but not delivering that little extra
  21. Not the greatest forward delivery by Casey.
  22. Loving the dog in the sound mic
  23. Lucky Freo left Perth yesterday as a refuelling issue has thrown Perth airport into chaos https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-01/perth-airport-planes-grounded-refuelling-problem/103922850 Perth Airport said a problem with load pressure in the fuel lines was causing the issue. "Further cancellations are expected and in-bound flights which have not already left their departure points will also be impacted," a spokesperson said in a statement. "Airlines have been advised not to send aircraft to Perth Airport until further notice unless they have sufficient fuel to make a return flight." It's understood some flights have been delayed since Friday night, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
  24. Read that article last night. It suggests a number of possibilities for the reasons as to the level of injuries but none are conclusive. There is little doubt that it's a combination of smaller lists, lengthened seasons and shorter off seasons. With competition equalisation luck has now become a major player. The luck of the fixture, the luck of the draft, the luck of father son selections.. the list goes on
