  1. Watching the 2021 prelim against Geelong this week (needed some happy TV). Could not help but think how Scott turned around his team in 2022 whereas we went backwards if anything in our gameplan. Let's hope 2023 gives us a better mix
  2. certainly worthy of discussion Percentage football may only get you so far
  3. Thanks OD Of course the fault is we failed to move twenty years ago. The MCG precinct was always a pipe dream. Inner city was hard but mid city (20k radius) was possible. In reality there is no solution now. Richmond have compromised. Collingwood are doing nothing it seems. It is what it is.. Just imagine if we had been more powerful in the Junction Oval days. Casey on the 50k ring is not the solution unfortunately.... we need to be within the 30k ring As an aside I think Geelong will be the next to establish the modern training facilities. Some land on the Geelong- Ballarat road perhps
  4. That bottom 8 is a surprise. Adelaide at 17 especially. Must have a soft spot for North as I see them as 17 or 18 and not 13 as suggested. The top 8... nearly has it right !! Ah.. just watched to the end. Initial ladder positions were for home and away Thanks
  5. Quite likely that Melb Victory will be penalised with several games behind closed doors. Can't help wondering if the AFL would do similar if faced with the same problem. I think we all know the answer
  6. My first and only experience of top level soccer was five matches in Kazan during the 2018 World Cup. Crowds are definitely different to an AFL match to say the least. Never saw anything anywhere approaching violence and boy there was a lot of drinking !!
  7. VFL fixture is crying out for many things. Not sure that a wild card round was high on the needs list but who knows
  8. If the cricket test is any guide.... for crowds a lot less than than they will be anticipating for the Harry Potter Round... literally everywhere is booked out including the Barossa Valley
  9. Yep probably pouring rain and howling winds turns an easy game into a low scoring slog. Why not under the roof at Docklands
  10. It's an "Event" purchased by the local State Government just like they purchase conferences, theatre, festivals etc. The economic benefits to the local city are hard to prove but it has been the way of things for around 20 years now. Will it work as an "Event" and pack out the hotels and restaurants... probably. You only need just over 5000 travelling fans for each team and you have almost 100,000 visitors
  11. Degree of interest is rather low but wondering how double headers work ticket wise If it's one ticket for both games then the crowd for one of the games will be low I suspect. Interesting that we got a graveyard slot TV wise
  12. I booked and had the car all ready to go in 2021 and of course the great lockdown hit. I'd love to go but I expect I will head off to the warmth of Asia during May. It's certainly on my bucket list. I think it's the magic of those gum trees around the ground that tempts me
  13. Needs the actual date and time to be announced asap. Booking flights and accommodation (even buying a game ticket) is not the easiest. Big supporter of this game and well marketed it has the chance to be a TV blockbuster (not sure GWS is a great choice but for around $750k from the NT govt you can understand why)
  14. too small for a serious modern training facility. Two ovals indoor training facility pool plus gym admin complex That's the minimum
  15. King Island would be nice for a training ground Think of all that salt grass lamb
  16. it's contrived... how many contrived rounds can one stand AFL should just let the season and fan interest build naturally
  17. Interesting... wonder if the market in Oz is big enough but there's definitely scope to expand the non traditional media area Good luck Ben
  18. So once again we have the contrived round of relative equals. The AFL just cannot help themselves these days. Once it used to be a few blockbusters now it's whole rounds manipulated. Saturday night assuming decent weather maybe 50k. Might go to the Hawks v Bombers game if our "transferees" are selected
  19. Could have the Tramways Band for mood music I like it
  20. Got to admire the fans that made it to the games in Qatar. The accommodation and travel logistics encountered by most made Russia look like a breeze. Getting to the round of 16 match will be another level of difficulty again
  21. I suspect you're right Freo has given Port the play book... Pick 16 anyone??
  22. so it's back to where we were five odd years ago with the fresh legs being added in the last quarter. Amusing doesn't quite describe the change of mind
  23. Okay but Similar.. he was being at least partly paid from the VFL top up bucket used for players and not from the soft salary cap. This will be another version... could be wrong but I doubt that he's making a comeback
  24. IIRC he was on the Collingwood list as a salary saver for 2022 and I expect this is similar for 2023. Frees up some of the soft cap
  25. Season 7 at a competition level was a fail for so many reasons it's hard to know where to start. Will Season 8 be any better.. probably not.
