  1. I’m not an expert, but I would imagine the AFL doesn’t have control how clubs allocate salary cap per season. So realistically it’s in our best interest to move Gus’ money forward as much as possible.

I think what they are trying to do is be fair to clubs immediately impacted, but also make sure clubs make realistic offers to players with concussion history.

This is where it starts to get really interesting, because now concussion will start to severely impact a players earning capability, and job security. The players have double the incentive to limit concussion, so the legal exposure to the AFL grows if they don’t change the game to protect their assets.

I imagine more and more rule changes are coming.

  2. Honestly Grundy has played a handful of good games this year, most of them against D list ruckmen. His game against Max needs to be viewed with the understanding that Gawn was very unwell, and probably shouldn’t have played.

If anyone reckons Grundy should still be at the club, and rucking for us, go watch the replay of our gather round game last year against Essendon when Max was injured. Draper absolutely annihilated Grundy, and made him look unfit and lazy. Draper kicked three goals on Grundy purely from out working him.

Grundy wasn’t in good form for us last year. It’s not the clubs fault he didn’t do the preparation or have the desire to make it work. He’s a different player this year purely because he wants to be. He was happy to sign the contract last year, but not do much to make it work.

It’s boring having to discuss him. Go watch the replays of how he played last year for us. He was poor.

  3. The Swans are a talented team, but they are just having one of those seasons where it all really clicks - like us in ‘21, Cats in ‘22, and Pies last year.

They have the confidence of a team who are having their year.

  4. 4 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

    what about rachele?

signed a massive deal and has 'disappointed' this year according to the likes of kornes (i think he's still been pretty good)

i'm not sure he's a mid - certainly hasn't rolled thru there this much this year - but he has played in that mid / fwd combo role in the past and has some nice skills

    biggest query would be pace

    I’d have him too.

Crows have great smalls coming through I reckon. That’s why they want Petty. When their midfield will be elite they’ll need support behind the ball to genuinely challenge. They want Harry to be their May.

This year Jack has gone backwards

His shoulder is absolutely shot. He can barely handle a single knock to it. He’s been playing injured for at least 6 weeks. Before that he was very, very good.

If we had more midfield options he’d probably have been rested, but with Gus gone he’s had to keep fronting up when he’s clearly not right.

The AFL should be getting some heat.  In the NFL, every stadium has medical imaging, and some teams bring their own.  X-Ray and ultrasound mainly. With ultrasound, a doctor can pick up internal bleeding with 90% accuracy and punctured lungs with 97-100% accuracy.  And a portable x-ray would find broken ribs in 2 minutes.

If any good should come of Tracc’s incident it should be that the AFL makes it into the 21st century. They have enough money to make sure of players welfare.

This is a great point. If only the AFLPA did its actual job, instead of happily signing off on everything the AFL wants.

  7. If the issue with the club over the last couple of seasons has been inaccuracy and scoring efficiency today was the day where it became completely unavoidable that both the skills coach and forward line coach have to go.

I expect significant off field changes before next year. We continue to under deliver forward of the ball.

  8. Interesting to read the truth about why Gus disappeared from the boundary after one week in todays Age interview with Goodwin….

The plan was for Brayshaw, after his shock enforced retirement, to remain at Melbourne in a development role, but any hope that Brayshaw could find some fulfilment off the field so soon was dashed after one week at the start of the season working on the interchange bench.

Brayshaw found it too upsetting being so close to the action and has chosen to explore other avenues away from football, including, at least this year, travel.
