So where is this smaller doggie forward line that seems to have become the conventional wisdom here this week??? They will have either Cloke or Redpath or both, Tom Boyd back with Roughead in the ruck, Stringer and Bont. The option of bringing in Cordy and or Campbell... Last year they had too many tall options for us forward and they double teamed Max in the ruck. Hardly a bunch of pygmies...

Spencer won't dominate 'McQueen', he will nullify the ruck contests at best and that will make him a liability. I trust Goody will make the right selection again.
-
I would be very surprised to see Spencer in this week, we need to run a mobile team at Dockland against the dogs and the big fella would be a liability. Barring injuries I don't think the lineup will change.

Similar player to Watts... ...now showing that he struggles when not getting silver service. I think we stick with what we've got and look to fill more pressing needs.

No, Champion Data are the ones that take their own data out of context. I'm happy to see stats and I fully understand that they are about what has happened... ...but Champion Data like to think they can use their stats to predict what will happen and that's where they get themselves into trouble. Last years premiership is a prime example. Their crystal ball is no better than the next mans.

Nup, made 2 disposal errors centring the ball early but apart from that held up well when our midfield were being smashed and the defence were under siege. It was a good 4 Q game from Oscar.

You might if it's seen as part of his rehab... I would rather us be conservative with Max rather than have him break down and if that means running him at Casey on managed time then so be it.
-
Goodwin again changed things up at half time and got the result. His move of Tommy Mac into the ruck helped shift the midfield battle back to us after we were annihilated in the first half. We have a very proactive coach...not afraid to try something different. We've got a good one in Goodwin.

I don't think so 'dazzle', he was out of touch in the Casey game (missed too much footy) and Grundy would have torn him to pieces. Grundy was always going to be a problem with Max out...their mids are getting a free ride from Grundy and our poor performing on ballers. Lets see if Oliver & Viney can stand up in the 2nd half, if not we're done.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC

Not saying you are right or wrong 'ignition' but I wouldn't be using WAFL stats to back the argument 'ignition'...Viv Michie killed it at this level but couldn't step up. -
I think the advantage this year like last is finishing in the bottom half of the 8. Top 4 to me is a disadvantage. They will close this loophole at the end of this season. With the weeks break leading up to finals top 4 teams lose momentum when they can least afford it.
-
The upside is at least we don't get him tomorrow 'Ethan'...

Hardeman was always a favourite, I remember that first mark and it sticks in my memory as one of the best I've seen. Unfortunately the footage wasn't great but the hang time he got was unbelievable.
-
Seems like every 2nd game this year has been our most important since .....add year here. It's no more important than any other game this year (not including finals), we need to get wins on the board. Simple.

The common thread seems to be that the commentary team on 7 is useless not just Ling. They drive me to distraction. ...but I remember Ling being pretty good when he first started his commentary. I mean, he does have a clue although you would be forgiven for believing the opposite. So, a couple of things or more... 7 are obviously instructing them to appeal to the lowest common denominator, those that don't have much of a clue about football and think a press is something you do to your shirt. 7 are also in the business of ratings so a further instruction is to pump up the big teams at all cost, wow, Collingwood are looking switched on tonight (just after the first bounce). They need to pension off Mathews, Carey and Watson (probably a few more) or find other jobs for them, too long out of the game and bring no insight. Of course they won't, the legendary names are good on the credits. They have become part of Ross Lyon's 'penny dreadfuls', trying to remain relevant. Special comments need to be the realm of ex players/coaches just out of the game. Like Malthouse or not his insights on radio are pretty good, my guess is he would be too hot for 7 to touch...wouldn't go along with the dumbing down. ...and please Dennis, reconsider your retirement. At least you had some flair and were well prepared unlike the buffoon they've replaced you with.

I've seen this mentioned a few times. Let me correct it....Our best footy is up with any team this year, get Max & Hoges back and we are as good a chance as anyone. This is a very open season and at the moment there are no standouts.
-
It's not to say they need something extra but you can guarantee they will use it, even if they say they don't. Lets put it this way, it's not going to hurt. They asked Bob Murphy the other day whether the coaches will use the comments at all...he didn't hesitate and said 'yes, of course they will'. I used to train down in the gym at Glenferrie oval back when it was the Hawks home and training ground. In the week leading up to the Carlton game they had the Mark McLure Truth photo shoot, nude with strategically placed football hanging on the wall. Not sure if McLure sent it, had made some derogatory remarks about the Hawks or Jeans was just stirring things up but they used it. This was when the Hawks were at their peak, they didn't let anything or any chance go by.

I think Ross Lyon is right about the penny dreadfuls... https://www.sen.com.au/news/2017/06/09/queens-birthday-over-in-20-minutes-plough/

Thank you for clarifying but... You post as someone who has the inside word. Maybe the 'GNF' true believers need to read your post and understand that it's just gossip you are posting and shouldn't be taken seriously. Or should I say anymore seriously than any other rumours that are posted.

Hope Goody is watching. Looks like rule of the week is holding the ball/incorrect disposal. Then again Monday is a new week and things could change.

Pretty sure in Bugg's last game at Casey he kicked 5 goals and got 30+ possessions. Would take him ahead of JFK...but good on the kid for getting leather poisoning. Wish Kent would do the same.

If he doesn't pull his finger out I think we might opt to head him home 'Redleg'... ...looking like a poor mans Colin Silvia at the moment. -

@ChaserJ or @Pennant St Dee are good observers of junior footy and 'Pennant' may know something about the WA side of things. My memory is he looked a pretty smart footballer and was another one from a basketball background...he seemed to have a bit of upside. ...but there must be a reason he slipped back. -
About 4 years younger and a few good games AFL level though 'Dappa'... At 24 he's right in the zone, like him or not they have some development time left with him. I think with Jake he will be hoping for another year with us and that might see him out. Not a lot of games but a pretty well paid job that will set him up nicely.
-
I'm not surprised that Spencer doesn't play. I also doubt they will rush Max back in, it would be a desperation move after a serious injury that will need to be managed before he gets back to AFL level. If Spencer pulls up ok this week and plays well enough, then he could come back in and it will give Max the time to get some miles in the legs at Casey...
