  1. I don't disgree with you, but I think Jones has enough currency to say that he would not shirk any contest, and IMO it looked more like he was a bit confused than anything. I wasn't referring to whose man it was, more that he may have misread the flight of the ball (as I said). That is just my assessment of the situation.

It did surprise me - sounds more likely from previous experience that they would all have NFI what was going on, and nobody would end up spoiling.

But he's just kicked a goal so let's cut him some slack.

  2. We are friggin woeful. It is an embarrassment watching these people pretend to play footy.

We have the worst leadership going around. Our captain is on the bench, Davey is pissweak, Moloney rarely sighted. Wtf is happening to this club?

Sounds from the radio like a couple of contests have been shirked in the first half. Jones was mentioned which surpised me - anybody watching and see this

  3. We were crap but we didn't chuck a game IMO . What about the Bryce Gibbs cup ,The Kruezer cup etc

I remember Lance Whitnall missing a goal my mum could have kicked from about 15 out straight in front in the Kruezer cup and thinking 'has it really come to this??'

  4. I'd put Lynden Dunn on Darling with instructions to get into him all day.

I'd play Morton on Embley with instructions to hurt him the other way.

I'd remind Davie, Rivers, Green and Moloney that they are great football players deserving of the respect they have built over years of quality service to the MFC.

I'd tell Jack Watts to play deep, with Jamar, and continue to work hard. So close.

Jack Trengove has just publically told Tom Scully he believes in the MFC, and challenged him to lift.

And Todd Viney growling in the corner is sending shivers up my spine.

Painful as it has been this year, our team has been a soapy from hell, we've been unable to take our eyes off them.

    Bring on the Weagles!

    Go Melbourne.

When you put it like that, it actually starts to sound ok...

At some point, our big guns have to have a day out - they simply can't all be so quiet every game. Not sure, we probably only need a huge game from a couple (like say Sylvia in the forward line and Moloney through the midfield) to get pretty close.

  5. I agree with the above - stuff whether you 'deserve' it - if you more points and more wins, then you deserve it more than the muppet teams below you (taking into account, of course, our very light draw).

  6. I agree they are alot more honest. if these are the reviews released online I wouldn't mind listening to the reviews given behind closed doors.

Agree - although a bit rough tearing strips off Martin - still pretty young and Sat was a good learning experience. Thought Moloney's review was pretty scathing...

  7. Dude , the Captain Jack thing has been done to death . Just look at it .

have you thought of a new name for yourself yet ?

Alright, alright... To be honest I didn't look too hard when choosing a name. Jeepers.

  8. I put this on another thread, but is just as appropriate here.....

While I understand where everyone is coming from with the captaincy argument, do you think we could stop anointing the next kid that shows us what he is made of to the poisoned chalice.

I don't want the same thing to happen to any of our Jacks if they get the gig while unready for it.

And while I'm on that can we stop being so bloody fickle, last week it was Trengove, the week before that Moloney, earlier in the year Grimes was the heir apparent,

and Scully has even had his name mentioned in the same capacity (not so often lately).

Now I agree a new captain must be named for next season, as the role has killed Green, and I for one miss the excellent version of him we had last year.

That being said it is wonderful to see so many leadership options in our next generation, but to me they may need more time to grow up a little, despite the dire straights we are currently in.

I wasn't being fickle really, given that was my first post...

I was, however, being a little tongue in cheek and agree that probably Moloney should get the gig for a couple of years until our young leaders grow up. BUT, I was thinking about it a bit yesterday and it occurred to me that Watts is looking like the player that will drag others along with him. Check out the photo on page 2 of the Age sports section today - he is eyeballing Jimmy and it looks like they are very much on the same page. He looks like he is in for the long haul, and that goal yesterday (even though the spin wasn't strictly necessary) was really inspirational at a point where the game was still up for grabs.

And Trengove was all over the Bailey thing, I thought it was pretty interesting that one of our youngest players was the one the media were seeking out for quotes - and he dealt with it brilliantly, IMO.

Just out of interest, at what age did Ball and Riewoldt start rotating through the St K captaincy? And I get it, even Carey was 22 before he was made captain...
