Oliver is virtually untradeable unless we accept massive unders. So it looks like we're stuck with him As for the clubs stance, they have to play the poker face as there might be a club or 2 who might want him
-
So Oliver was squeaky clean in 2023? Really? I seem to remember him missing 3 months with some sort of mystery ailment And then he lost the trust of the players and the FD. That's ok? Oh, and we put him up for trade in 2023 as well. Is that the clubs fault? Seriously? And then this season after picking up his monthly cheque of $100,000k he decides to present himself unfit and overweight That's ok as well? As for Petracca, where do we start?
-
We were never coming from a strong position anyway so it would not matter what we said (or are saying) Maybe 'No comment' but even that creates a storm and garners scorn We've got 2 problem players on huge contracts who are virtually untradeable. We can't tear up the contracts but are the problems going away? We'll have to wait and see but I'm not holding my breath If they were lesser lights they'd both be gone already
-
Ok, so you don't agree with what I'm saying, that's fair enough, Baghdad But if I keep getting quoted my only reply can be what I've already said And that is that you cannot have 2 renegade players rule the roost Given your experience, I'm surprised that you're not agreeing with me
-
Both Oliver & Petracca are 100% to blame Have we seen Gawn, Viney, Rivers et al behave in the same way. No It's just those 2 but they just happen to be our best 2 players. But I can put that aside because the club comes first I'd like to know how the club made Oliver go off the rails? Please explain As for Petracca and his petty attitude dragging the club through the mud for close on 3 weeks, that was disgraceful
-
Well you are wasting my time so what do you expect You and numerous others here need to stop blaming the club because of the poor behaviour of 2 players If they were lesser lights, nearly everyone would want both players out of the club A rule for some and a different rule for others? That's toxic and you never win with that scenario
-
The thread is about Oliver and a big part of the discussion is whether he's going to be traded or not And his issues are totally related You lack experience and come across as a bit of a novice
-
It pays not to have favourite players as they can let you down My favourite players are those who get the best out of themselves. Even the average ones impress me if they give their all At some stage Clarrie won't be playing for us but the club will go on regardless I support the club but have critiqued the club when applicable But I'm not going to blame the club for the poor behaviour of 2 players. That's the media's angle and the power of the pen is mighty So don't get sucked in by the media. They're trying to sell stories and with the media, the truth often gets thrown in the waste paper baskets 3 years ago we were the media darlings and they loved everything that we did. That sold newspapers or got clicks. Now the opposite has the same effect Poor old Kate Roffey became the sacrificial lamb and what did she do wrong? Avoided questions like Tim Lamb did ... what's the difference?

They are playing the game Don't you know how trading works? Make no mistake, if the club could trade Oliver, we would. But the huge contract is like an albatross around our neck By the way, when the contract was drawn up and signed, none of this poor behaviour from Oliver was evident (at all) Here's his last 2 years (whilst getting paid upwards of $1.3Million per season) 2023 ... half way through the season there is this phantom hamstring injury that occurs in a game but oddly enough, he stays on the ground Then there's 3 months off (still getting paid) ... at the end of the season all is revealed that he's gone off the rails etc etc and has lost the trust of nearly everyone. Might be traded but again ... the contract He doesn't train properly in the off season (still getting paid) and comes back overweight and unfit. Barely plays a decent game all season That's Clayton Oliver And don't get me started on Petracca
-
@KozzyCan The only trade that can work for us is for Oliver to become someone else's problem (unless he can knuckle down with us) I'm putting aside his football ability here because we have to The club is always bigger than any individual especially one who has decided to take all the money and give back SFA
-
Oliver is 100% at fault here and he put the club into a no-win situation It won't matter what we do or what we did, the mud will stick to the club Oliver is toxic (or was) but there is a chance that he might knuckle down
-
Any club won't weaken it's trade position so there's a need to stick to the 'required & contracted player line' ("he's not going anywhere") It's similar to when a president supports a coach who is on thin ice And the only way Oliver gets traded is for unders. His true value is a couple of decent first round picks or perhaps even more But which club is going to offer that after he's gone off the rails and had 2 way below standard seasons? On top of all that there's a 6 year $10Million deal in place At best there would be club willing to take over his huge contract with nothing coming back our way So you and quite a few others here need stop blaming the club ... the player is responsible for his own actions and this is all on Oliver Ditto for Petracca

Apparently Belichick has been doing a lot of media and many are finally discovering that he indeed has a vibrant personality!! Of course, his infamous pressers pointed us elsewhere but the news out of the Pats locker room was that the real Bill was away from the preying eyes New York would go crazy if you snagged him as coach. There'd be a different story every week! But we might be talking next season anyway *Breaking News* Belichick is 2-1 favourite to get the HC job at the Jets. In front of a long list of candidates with next best being Mike Vrabel at 4-1
-
Oddly enough, I reckon Rodgers would be happy to do it Bill's way if Belichick was appointed. 9 wins might win the AFC East so the playoffs isn't a pipe dream for the Jets
-
Now that I'd like to see ... for any number of reasons Principally because of the clash of Ego's between Belichick & Rodgers!! And Bill could only improve the Jets from your position right now The AFC East is not the NFC North!! I was just thinking today on why Bill isn't coaching. Forget his age, the man is a genius I hope you at least talk to Belichick
-
Well maybe a little bit!! haha
-
Yep, like what is often said, follow the money But what makes this situation so difficult is that both Petracca & Oliver are revered figures, premiership heroes and match winners. Top players We need to see all that again because after all, we are paying for it In brutal terms, a return on investment is expected
-
The gunslinger QB's often get leaned on by the head coaches. Stafford can be great at times so a coach might be easily tempted into just backing in the QB Back to the Pats/Beluchick/Brady era where Bill (rightfully) ruled the roost. As great as Brady was, he wasn't in charge Same as Ferguson ruled the roost at Man Utd (13 Titles under the Alex reign)
-
2 things (A) Why didn't he talk to Rodgers? (B) I don't believe that he didn't talk to Rodgers There was an incident a few weeks ago when the coach went to hug Rodgers and Aaron pushed him away ... Rodgers made light of it but it wasn't a good look It's my belief that the Jets organisation (not the coach) handed over the keys to Rodgers But Aaron is really struggling and right now is playing like an old man
-
As Rex Ryan constantly says ... Build a great running game and that will make your passing game more potent ... ya gotta love Rex! It's a pity that McCarthy has never bought into the above concept
-
I'm wondering if Rodgers had anything to do with the sacking? Once you hand over the keys, anything can happen
-
As for the WR's, if they drop an easy catch it should be recorded as a 'Howler' haha 6 Rec 142 Yards 1 Colossal Howler Dropped Catch WR's can pull the plug on a play but as previously noted, they may as well try and catch the ball because they are going to get hit anyway!!
-
Yeah, of course he doesn't want to leave He's getting paid $10Million (guaranteed) over the next 6 years and who would walk away from that sort of money? And it's quite obvious that no other club would pay him that amount of money so of course he wants to stay I'm wondering if there are clauses in his contract that can lead to a contract default. If not, those clauses should exist
-
I agree and I'm wondering why the appraisals and stats aren't more sophisticated It's like people take delight in counting up the interceptions I've seen stats where a QB has been intercepted twice and neither incident has been the QB's fault
-
If you are referencing Oliver & Petracca then all the furore has been caused by the 2 players, not the club Selfish, self entitled and greedy Oliver went completely off the rails with Petracca sooking it up because he didn't get enough visits Both can play and many will disagree but if viewed as commodities only, they owe the club - big time Both need to perform or the supporters will really turn on them They are getting paid a lot of money and the club will need a return on investment Nearly all the issues we've seen at the club are attached to both players. Both players have dragged the club through the mud If you were Goodwin, you'd be tearing your hair out. We can't expect the coach to be a trained psychologist
