  4. Pre Bye (Rnds 1-13) vs Post Bye (Rnds 15-19) Player Review, Season 2021 Given all the chatter about where we are at after the bye i thought i would review each player's accessible data (some anyway!) and take a look at their (statistical) form pre vs post the bye. All data based on averages. Obviously better to have more data than less but sometimes it is also helpful just to compare a later block of matches to an earlier block as a rough indicator of where a player might be trending in terms of form. I'll work my way down from highest jumper number to lowest as quickly as i can. BB first up with data a little shakey here given only 3 games played both pre and post bye. Some of the large percentage changes here reflect the small data set for BB. 5 games minimum either side feels a bit more robust but including BB here as part of this review for interests sake. I won't be including anyone with less than three games either side of the bye here in case you are wondering why they might have been left out... #50 B Brown Rnds 1 - 13 Rnds 15 - 19 % Change Post Bye CP 5.67 5.67 0.0 UP 4.00 5.00 25.0 ED 5.33 5.67 6.3 DE% 61.13 51.83 -9.3 CM 1.00 1.33 33.3 Mi50 2.33 2.00 -14.3 1% 1.33 2.33 75.0 CL 0.00 0.00 0.0 R50 0.00 0.00 0.0 i50 0.67 3.00 350.0 T 0.67 1.67 150.0 Si 4.33 4.67 7.7 MG 172.33 227.00 31.7 TO 2.00 2.00 0.0 ITC 1.33 0.33 -75.0 T5 0.67 1.33 100.0 TOG% 77.33 81.00 4.7 G 1.67 1.00 -40.0 CP = Contested Possessions UP = Uncontested Possessions ED = Effective Disposals DE% = Disposal Efficiency % CM = Contested Mark Mi50 = Marks inside 50 1% = One Percenter CL = Clearances R50 = Rebound 50 i50 = Inside 50s T = Tackles Si = Score Involvements MG = Meters Gained TO = Turnovers ITC = Intercepts T5 = Tackles inside 50 TOG% = Time on Ground % G = Goals Stats courtesy of footywire.com

  6. If we gained anything from Saturday night it should be the obvious fact that Viney was much more damaging playing as a forward vs through the middle. I actually don't mind the move of Spargo for more time through the middle and having Viney play minimal minutes here. Who knows what the right mix is but something like (Mid/Forward) Spargo 65 / 35 Viney 35 / 65 Spargo is a much better user of the ball than Viney, better at finding space and time, and would be more damaging with ball in hand coming inside 50. Mixing these two between these positions will also keep the opp guessing and keeps Viney a little fresher for his short stint in the middle when needed. Both players are also very hard nosed / effective defensively through the middle so we would lose very little with Spargo playing about 65% of time here and sharing the role with Jack IMV. My other change would be either Sparrow or Chunk (if fit), to come back in for Jordan. Jordan's been great at times this season, especially prior to the bye, but his efforts in the five rounds post that have dropped away badly, particularly in some key areas like clearances, tackle / pressure and score involvements. I would favour chunk a smidgen ahead of Sparrow if fully fit and i'd have him playing a 70/30 role (Defensive Sweeper at Center bounces to pressure Bont et al running straight out of the congestion up the guts) and the other 30% up forward, sharing this role with Kozzie. Kozzie i would have playing a different outer rim mid during his short stints in the middle looking for the receive and then 1st clean possession from the middle. Have we completely stopped this option? It wouldn't surprise me if we've backed him right off as playing a small HF role (effectively / consistently) is hard enough let alone significant minutes in the middle as well. Subject to fitness / loads capability i would attempt to play him in the 70/30 HF/Mid role with Chunk. This is no doubt an ideal scenario but hopefully the bye in the week prior to the finals will freshen many up including Kozzie for this exact impact. Until then we need to be going all out to win at least three of the next four to secure a top four spot.
  7. Might be something in this. Prior to being managed for general soreness (was it?) in Rnd 11, my view is he was taking the game on more with his passes by foot Ollie. I could be imagining this but since then he appears to be just laying off to anyone free within 15 / 20 odd meters much more often than prior to being managed. Not taking the more risky 45 kicks or switches as often that require a more forcefull kick of at least 25/30 meters plus. Pure speculation though as i have no data with his kicks to back this up. However meters gained might be one loose indicator and he is down here over 40% per match on average after returning! (see below). Also his turnover numbers are down. Might suggest he is not turning over as much due to not pulling the trigger as often? His intercept numbers are also way off the first nine rounds! Not working as hard as first nine rounds or something NQR? Time on ground (TOG) also supports this theory playing 13% less TOG.....suggesting he is either NQR or being managed (see below). Below is a sample of some (publicly available) aspects of his statistical form with the figures showing the difference between his first nine rounds (1 to 9) and his last 9 rounds (11 to 19) averages... Contested possessions: 7.1 / 3.8 -46.8% Uncontested possessions: 17.4 / 15.8 -9.5% Effective Disposals: 20.8 / 16.8 -19.2% Disposal Efficiency: Was 75.6 (AFL ave approx 73%) vs 70.9% Marks i50: Zero prior and just the 1 after but not expecting much here given he is a defender* 1% ers: Unchanged @ 1.22 Contested Marks: 0.3 / 0.0* Clearances: 0.9 / 0.8 -12.5% (obviously not a strong suit given role so not taking too much out of this) Rebound 50s: 5.6 / 5.1 -8.0% Inside 50s: 2.8 / 1.0 -64% Tackles: 2.4 / 1.7 -31.8% Score Involvements: 4.7 / 2.9 -38.1% Meters Gained: 498.2 / 297.0 -40.4% Turnovers: 4.8 / 3.4 -27.9% Intercepts: 7.7 / 4.2 -44.9% Time on Ground: 88.0% / 75.6% Taking a weighted average score from some of the above, his last nine rounds were statistically 24.7% worse than his first nine indicating he appears to be way off his earlier season form. Could also (partly?) be the opp putting more time into him (and/or better defensive forwards?) vs earlier this season.
  8. Yep i don't see it either LN. There's just too many resting on their laurels and bathing in it of late. The Harmes incident was sad to watch also. Goody will need to stop the rot starting next week or we may miss a top four spot and be out without firing a shot in an elimination final. What a waste of a season and i doubt there's any coming back from there (mentally) nor will we get too many better chances than this one to take a stab at the big one.
  9. Gawny has not played very smart footy all season IMV. He's taken some decent intercept marks all over the ground but the rest of his work has been good to ordinary other than a few marks & goals inside 50 when pushing forward. Reckon he's played at top form maybe two games in total from memory. Was his pre-season as good as some? Looks disinterested at times as if he couldn't care whether we win or not. Laughing at the opp long after they've kicked a sneaky goal at one stage ... not a great look from the Captain.
  10. Rnd 19, 2021 MCG - Bulldogs vs Demons The Hunters revert to the hunted once again (with a few exceptions). Too meek and mild for 3 quarters tonight from most. Some very poor match day coaching IMV also cost us dearly today. Our worst Team Score for the season. 7.7% worse than the 2019 season average and a massive 19.8% off this season's average until last week! Easily our worst score from the top 6 for the season by a fair margin also. Probably Linger's worst game for the year as well (statistically). DE% of 60% is not going to win you many games either. Yes it was wet, but same for both teams. Doggies ran at 69%. We over used the ball too much as well with 41 disposals per goal vs the Doggies 28. Dogga was our best ball user (outside of defenders) running at 88.9% efficiency. Tracc our worst at 35.5% overall. A few other stats worth noting ... Turnover Kings ? Clarry leading for second week with a massive 11! Followed by ANB 7, Tracc 6, Lingers & Hunt with 5 each. Score Involvements ? Viney 7, Clarry & BB 6 with Hunt & Fritta 5 each. Tackles ? Viney leading for the second week in a row with 9. Next best Kozzie & Harmes 8 with ANB & Tracc both on 7 Marks inside 50 ? BB the main target here with 4 Meters gained ? Hunt 548, Clarry 404, Tracc 390, Viney 371, Lever 362 Intercept Kings ? Lever 15, Hunt 9 with Clarry Rivers & Salem the next best on 6 each. 11. Yep they've both done very little all night. Would have have had Harmes on Bont and Viney on Libba all night Another coaching fail.
  12. Now that's what we lack coming inside... a beautiful finish kick
  13. NICE THROW LIBBA!!!!!!
  14. Why would you allow Viney back into the middle after that play when he is clearly better at HF?? Put anyone else in the middle even Spargo.
  15. Why is Dogga playing from nehind in the wet and in that situation. Boy this forward line is a dog's breakfast
  16. Chunk simply has to come in for ANB next week if fit
  17. Yep it's the worst non call I've seen in quite a while
  18. The Daaawgs are Gaaawn. Demons by 3 goals
  19. I reckon we get them in the last quarter ... umpiring aside
  20. Their forward pressure has been much more intense for the entire match. We've matched them a little this quarter here but the first half was lacking
  21. Spargo's been given a bit of a towelling up so far
  22. Chunk for ANB or Jordan ASAP pls
  23. Jordan just toe it forward son! [censored] stupid non thinking VFL grade footy
  24. Not really they won a premiership perfecting this. The AFL loves it and clearly encourages
