Goodwin said post match Petty is ready to play and will get an opportunity. Tmac was also mentioned but I believe he would be the backup option. May is not a spring chicken. It’s important to win games but you need to always keep one eye on the future. Petty is the future, and if he isn’t, now is the time to find out.

I don’t understand why we rushed to give him 5 years when he has so many ongoing foot issues. There is no doubt he’s an important part of our team and we are worse off defensively in clearances when he isn’t playing. But he hasn’t had an injury free season for a long long time, and that doesn’t appear to be changing. It’s a real concern that he can’t get over the foot problems.

Norf can play against Brown better than anyone. He would have trained on their defenders for 10 pre seasons. It’s little wonder May smashed Lynch last week. But Brown was always going to take time to get into the swing of things and for us to work out a structure around him. It’s exactly why we didn’t bring him in last week against Richmond. Our delivery inside 50 in the first half was not helping him, and he looked shaky on the lead. He hasn’t played senior footy in almost a year. This was always going to be a slow start. I don’t think we should judge him on today.

The entire team was very poor that game until the last quarter. Shades of today’s game, but today we were worse.

But Petty is on the list for this exact reason and he will never be ready if we don’t make him ready. He did ok when May was out. Replacing Tommo is much easier a task than replacing May. We have to give Petty a real crack at it. He has shown plenty in the VFL and he is the future. If it doesn’t work out we have TMac, but people forget why TMac was taken out of the backline. His deficiencies haven’t changed.

I dunno, it didn’t look good. The guy didn’t come back on did he? I mean Hawkins smashed May’s face and it was accidental. They may say it’s accidental but the elbow was a little raised and he does play for Melbourne. Good record so I would say he misses a week.

No chance Tmac goes back when you have developed Petty for 5 years for this exactly reason. He didn’t go back when May was out, and he won’t now that Tommo is out. It was a stop gap today because Norf were playing tall down back. Out: Tommo ?, Melksham (wishful thinking), Baker In: Petty, Chandler, Sparrow or Harmes Weideman comes in if Fritta is suspended.

I said to my friend what hard work today was. He said “yeah I would hate to work hard to be 7-0”. Has a point... stupid non AFL supporter ?

Jackson turned the game for us in the second half. Gawn was having a mare and Jackson went into the middle and just dominated. Him and Kosi and Fritta won it for us in the end. So that’s a big positive. The rest of the game, the less said the better. Brown needs a lot of time to get going. He looks slow and rusty. Kudos to Tmac for swinging back and holding his own. It can’t be easy. Heartbreaking for Tomlinson. Petty will come in which is a great opportunity for him, but Tommo will be missed!

The AFL were like “this win didn’t deserve a percentage boost”. They’re not wrong.

Goodwin talks about playing your role and sticking to your structures, but he gives this guy a free ride. The mind boggles.
