I have presented my opinion, it is not an opinion made up in the moment. I have plenty of proof to back up the fact that Pies are in better form than us, have beaten more top 8 sides than us, and have had the wood over us in recent years. If you have a problem with people having an opinion that doesn’t match your own, maybe you should rethink posting here. As I’ve said again and again, nobody is forcing anyone to be here, or read anything written here. Pre, during or post games. I am not the one following your posts around being rude and calling you embarrassing for having an opinion. A very grown up behavior indeed. This is the last response you’ll get from me. As I’m not here to be belittled by someone who can’t understand how a discussion works.

They beat West Coast by the exact same margin we did. Despite playing poorly for 3/4 of the match. They lost Sidebottom in the North game which I think threw them a little and they went into self preservation mode. They were never going to lose and they knew it. They have however beaten more top 8 sides than we have, including smashing Port and beating Essendon, two sides we lost to. Over the last 18 months they’ve been the hardest side to beat consistently. Even on bad days, they find ways to win. They have belief and momentum, much like we had in the back end of 2021. They are not as good as we were in 2021, but they certainly have been very impressive this year, especially with the amount of injuries they’ve had. While I agree that we can win, they have a psychological edge on us, the wave of support that will drown out ours, and more than likely a few handy inclusions. Of course if they’ve been under an illness cloud that absolutely evens things out a little. But I don’t want to beat them because they’re unwell. I want to beat them because we outplay them.

How about we all just think what we want to think and you don’t come here and get aggressive or rude towards my opinion, just as I have not done towards yours. I couldn’t give a single [censored] what you think about our odds of winning the game. So why do you care about what I think? I am so over this attitude on Demonland where nobody is allowed to say anything other than “we are a great team and we will win the flag”, without someone having a go at them. Oliver out is a massive loss. He’s twice the player De Goey is. And I am entitled to be disappointed and worried about his absence from this match. I’m sure the club isn’t thrilled that he’s missing either. Edit: let’s also not forget that for the past 6 or so seasons the Pies have lived rent free in our heads. When we were good and they were terrible, they still beat us. They have the wood over us, and psychologically we are coming in on the back foot. To suggest this is not going to be a tough game to win is just wrong.

Yes. If we bring our third quarter of the grand final type of best, they can’t beat us. Nobody can. But we haven’t recaptured that form in 18 months. I hope like hell we find it again, but the reality is that at our current form they are a better side than we are, and have been since halfway thru 2022. I have everything crossed that it all starts to change come Monday because the really important part of the season is just about to begin. Part of winning a flag is luck. If Pies don’t lose to Swans by a point in the prelim I reckon the season ends very differently. Likewise, if we can get our best players on the park at the right times, then anything can happen.

My apologies, I couldn’t remember the exact number. But as Goodwin said, they’re the team to beat. Are they unbeatable? Of course not. Nobody is. But when you’re playing the most in form side in the competition, you need a lot to go right. Missing our best or second best (depending on your rankings of Trac and Clarry) player, certainly isn’t a good start. Can we win? Of course we can. I’ve seen far greater upsets in my time. But to suggest this won’t be a monumental task, especially missing Clarry and Petty (and yes they also have key players missing, which definitely helps), is blind hope.

They’ve lost 2 of their last 20 odd games. They are in better form.

If you think we deserved to win by more against Carlton, we also deserved to lose by more against Port. Only woeful kicking the second quarter by them kept us in the game.

I’m realistic. They are in much better form than us and the one area we could get them in was the contest. Without Oliver that becomes much harder. We lost to Freo and struggled to beat Carlton without him. Both those sides are literal trash compared to the Pies. As I said, probable loss. Not a definite loss. But to expect that losing Oliver won’t hurt our chances is frankly delusional.

This just went from a possible loss to a probable loss No Clarry and no Petty for the most important H&A game of the season. Typical rubbish Melbourne luck.
