  1. Its a shame Guthrie is back for the cats, hopefully he's underdone.
  2. Wondering if it would be a useful set play for Spencer and possibly Gawn to handball off, rather than take a set shot at goal. I'd say the conversion wld increase.
  3. I there a minimum requirement to use 3 picks in the National Draft? Think I read that somewhere.
  4. I think Harmes would be a good fit for the HB line, cld be Hibbert like. Tough & strong, attacking, good overhead, got some toe and skills are decent.
  5. Hell I dont know where to begin b/c the two things I love in life are the MFC and meditation. Everyone mentions relaxation benefits, but the field of meditation and its theory or 'mind culture' has far reaching benefits. If you're relating meditation to playing footy, than you might say its about putting mediation into action, promoting a natural 'flow'. The Tao is one tradition that often speaks of meditation in action, where intuition takes over and you do the right thing at the right time. I confess that I used to like the mystique of meditation because of those old samurai and martial arts movies, where the hero goes from inner equanimity to seriously wooping ass in a flash, then back to tranquility. This Tao or flow is called something else in sport - its called being in the 'zone'. Apparently there is heaps of awesome literature out there of sports stars recounting their experience in the zone. Ironically my favourite account was a newspaper article from James Hird. He said, some days he would just know where the balls was going before it went there, that he could go into a pack and get the ball at will.... etc. Id love to track down the article - I think it was The Age - anyone help? Anyway, meditation naturally cultivates that intuitive flow, It may not seem easy ... but thats b/c its very subtle, the benefits creep in. On a less mystic and more pragmatic level, meditation cultivates good mental psychology. I recall a comment from Olympic gold medalist Debbie Flintoff-King - "I always have this thing in my head feeding me negative ideas, I had to keep clearing my head, saying : Rubbish, I dont want to listen to that. That little voice can either make you or destroy you... thats were my meditation really helped..." The mental chatter is sooo fundamental. You can see it most obviously in those players we call 'confidence players', but everyones a confidence player when you get down to it.
  6. With the recruitment strategy they have gone for, Watt's wont be playing key position for a while, so I think the preasure is off him developing into a bulky size. He'll need to retain his swift of foot for chopping off leads and rebounding out of the backline.
  7. Perhaps backline coach Jade Rawlings remembers him well from his coach days at Brisbane in 2011. Thats a good thing.
  8. So true, and its why our drafting hasnt been the best. It like drafting a KPP b/c he's good below his knees
  9. A lot of mental toughness required aswell as the physical, rekon Neeld's got that in mind regarding our list management....
  10. Cant say Ive watched Port for a while, but I've always liked Pearce. One of those lateral moving, hard to tackle guys. All our mids except Jetta run in predictable straight lines and cough it up.
  11. When will we know if GWS or GC are going to bid on Viney?
  12. Is Lynch a free agent? Ie. we dont have to trade for him?
  13. Davis had a great pre-season cup earlier this year, very good one on one. He's probably still only 19-20 yrs old. Think he'll be good or at least he'll have some trade value if he's good bad theres no room in the team. Plenty of clubs needing KPB.
  14. Essendon will drop to 12th spot on the ladder, so given their father son pick with Daniher, it gives us the 12th 'live' pick.
  15. I think its a fair assessment of these players. Rivers - good player, but can't find the right spot in the 22, be worth trading. Petterd - might get a spot in the 22 without Green, but looks one dimensional. Moloney - could be retained despite terrible season, be interesting to see his value on the market and a trade might be best for a clean start for both parties. Davis, thought he was showing a lot of potential, but we're well stocked for tall defenders, I'd keep him or trade for different type of player. Bennell - shame the potential is there, but its just not happening. Joel Macdonald, Lynden Dunn, Matthew Bate - these guys won't be able to take it to the next level required. Gysberts - article says he is contracted and hints at Geelong interest - I think he's our best clearance player, but hasn't got the fitness to be played.
  16. Strong team. MFC might have a crap list, but the depth is growing.
  17. I agree ... mids, funny though a couple of years ago the football fraternety thought we had too many when we went for Gysberts at pick 11. Next year really need strauss, blease, tappy, gysberts to come through and make an impact.
  18. Yes, I thought a similar thing. Scully was an endurance freak too, but he still has a body that makes him look like an under 12. Right now Id be more excited to have Viney than Whitfield. Both would be pretty good though...
  19. Dont think they actually played from live report on Collingwood website. Just named there b/c they where apart of the 7 man interchange benched named for the AFL side.
  20. Maybe Viney is worth pick 3 anyway. its all speculation.
