No matter how hard I try, I can't get into the game. Spent some time in the States where they are all fanatical, made no difference.
  2. This thread got me thinking about what a magnificent year 1987 really was, many highs and just a few lows from my point of view. The start was the night final when Brett Bailey kicked a right footer out of his backside from the pocket at Waverley to knock off Essendung. We defeated the Filth twice in rounds 7 and 20 by 46 points and 55 points. We knocked off Essendung by 22 points at Windy Hill. We came home with a wet sail to beat the Dogs in the final round to scrape into the finals and then [censored] the Roos and the Swans in the Semi and Qualifying finals. The lows for me were the loss to the Bears at Carrara in round 5 by 5 points and obviously the shattering prelim loss. What might have been had we a fit Flower and a fit Lyon going into a GF.
  3. No shame in a few tears Swooper, one of my boys was also in tears after the game - so much expectation after so long in the wilderness. Mind you we should not have blamed Jimmy for the loss as Yeats, Campbell and Eishold all missed sitters in the last quarter that would have sealed the game. Eishold's effort in particular was a disgrace from close in.
  4. Maybe Noble Game doesn't like wet feet Redleg, good luck on tuesday.
  5. It was a funny comment and yes he is a funny bloke who is going through a trying period for a pro footballer. No harm done.
  6. Just what is happening in Dubai ? Pakistan all out 99, the English all out 141. England then had Pakistan 2/28 which has blown out to 2/222. Do you think the English may have been down to Ladbrokes for a flutter ?
  7. The Redbacks really are a bunch of parasites - why can't they develop their own rather than pinch our guys. It started with Siddons and now there are 5 Victorians at least in their squad - wap.
  8. Now that is disappointing however I guess they have to work in with suitable air travel, nevertheless hundreds of Queensland supporters will be screwed once again..
  9. John will not be making the trip Debbie, he will see us at the Gabba.
  10. A decent percentage of Demonlanders were on the money - well done.
  11. Not at all Woey, just holding my ground - after all this is a democratic site ? I moved to the GC as a mature person, maybe your view would change if a similar situation occurred. There are sleazy areas in all cities in Oz.
  12. Fair enough, we will agree to disagree then billy. Are you still in Rocky ?
  13. And I'm telling you exactly as I have found it after 4 years in Rockhampton and 21 years on the Gold Coast mixing with many fans of all codes both in business and socially.
  14. A fair dinkum crack is all we expect and if they show that commitment week in week out I for one will be satisfied. Let's face it, we will be driving home after losses whether we like it or not - and that scenario applies to supporters of all clubs unless some club creates history this year.
  15. As a Victorian who has lived (not by choice) in Queensland for 25 years may I suggest that the majority of locals refer to the codes as - Rugby League as League Rugby Union as Union AFL as Aussie Rules
  16. Saw this on facebook fwiw, if I was living in melbourne I would be there in a flash - " Foxtel is looking for 20 Demon fans to help film an ad in Melbourne next Tuesday from 8am-11am at Southbank. If you want to see your face on Fox Footy all year, email [email protected] with your name, photo, phone number and list of club apparel that you own. If you’re successful, Fox Sports will contact you. Good luck! "
  17. Owen Zinko wore the number 7 in 1964 however did not play finals. Owen who he says ?
  18. We'll be there, probably mid afternoon after picking up the grandkids and certainly after the games. After all someone has to keep Tilly under control !!
  19. Whatever is best for Jim is all that really counts. We've run out of superlatives to describe this great man and what he has achieved for our club.
  20. Agree with your sentiments, to have Jack Watts sitting on the bench for 90 minutes at the Gabba was plain ridiculous IMO. Whilst I concede that the pace of the game has increased dramatically, I don't see the need for so many changes. Luck with injuries must play a part in our game. In my day when we had 19th and 20th men and you were replaced, you were finished and it wasn't unusual to finish the game with less than 18 on the field. Maybe the answer does lie in restricting the use of the interchange rule. Ever sat directly behind the interchange bench ? Drives you nuts trying to keep up.
  21. Hey Nasher, would hate to be seen hijacking a thread but how is my avatar going ?
