This is not a six retrospective as I was locked away like everyone else. 2021 - Hope is eternal but for demon supporters' life is a [censored]. Lock down continues. Free Agency Melbourne sit on their hands. In the trade period Melbourne swaps pick 53 and a future 3rd round pick for Brisbane's pick 43 and their future 4th round pick. Adelaide gives up pick 33 and 50 for future 2nd and 4th round picks. Braydon Pruess is packed off to GWS for pick 31. Pick 25 arrives from the Swans for picks 31 and 43. Ben Brown, pick 28 and a future 4th rounder are traded from North for picks 26, 33 and a future 4th rounder. Pick 18, 19 and a future second rounder are traded from the Lions for picks 25,68,69 and a future first rounder (eventually pick 1). Pick 46 and a future 4th rounder (tied to North) are traded from the hawks for a future 3rd rounder. Harley Bennell and Kade Kolodjashnij retire. Kyle Dunkley, Oscar McDonald, Aaron Nietschke, Coery Wagner and Josh Wagner are delisted. The National draft sees Jake Bowey (21), Bailey Laurie (22) and Fraser Rosman (34) added to the list. Jay Lockhart is elevated from the rookie list. No one is selected as a rookie. Majak Daw and Deakyn Smith are taken in the pre-season supplemental selection period. Ben Brown, Jake Bowey and Bailey Laurie are added to the list of men still standing along with Jack, T.Mac, the skipper, Salem, Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Alex Neal-Bullen, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham, Joel Smith Jake Lever Charlie Spargo, Bailey Fritsch, Harrison Petty, Stephen May, Tom Sparrow, Kade Chandler, Marty Hore Ed Langdon, Kysaiah Pickett and Trent Rivers. The season was played during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Games went ahead with largely no crowds and teams in quarantine hubs all over the country. Melbourne for the first time in a long time ended the season on top of the ladder, 2 points and percentage clear of Port Adelaide. The rest is history, and the majority of Demon fans watched the mighty demons barn storm their way to a 13th flag still locked in their homes under a curfew. (Thanks Dan ---- Not) Enjoy. 2021- Bang.... bang, bang, bang 4k ==> https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-KwQXsG/i-MVQjQLL/A 2021- Bang.... bang, bang, bang Mbl ==> https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-KwQXsG/i-zkmqMXX/A

This is the last of the Preseason retrospectives. I hope you have all enjoyed them. I have had a lot of fun putting them together. The 2024 season is just around the corner. Get behind the boys. Go Dees. 2020 - After the disappointment of 2019, 2020 arrives with little expectation. In the first mid-season draft during 2019 Melbourne had brought in Kyle Dunkley due to Aaron Nietschke's long term injury. Free Agency sees Adam Tomlinson join as an Unrestricted Free Agent. Again, Melbourne gets busy in the trade period. Sam Frost, picks 42, 61 and 2020 fourth rounder are traded the Hawks for pick 50 and the Hawks 2020 second rounder. Ed Langdon picks 26 and the Dockers 2020 fourth rounder are traded for picks 22, 79 and the 2020 second round pick. Pick 8 is traded from North for picks 26, 50 and Melbourne's 2020 first rounder. Pick 8 is on traded to Freo for picks 10,28 and a 2020 4th round pick tied to Carlton. Jordan Lewis, Tim Smith and Guy Walker retire. Billy Stretch, Jay Kennedy Harris, Declan Keilty and Jeff Garlett are delisted. The National draft sees Luke Jackson (3), Kysaiah Pickett (12) and Trent Rivers (32) added to the list. No one is added as a Category B rooky. Mitch Brown and Harley Bennell are taken in the pre-season supplemental selection period. Adam Tomlinson, Ed Langdon, Kysaiah Pickett and Trent Rivers are added to the list of men still standing along with Jack, T.Mac, the skipper, Salem, Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Alex Neal-Bullen, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham, Joel Smith Jake Lever Charlie Spargo, Bailey Fritsch, Harrison Petty, Stephen May, Tom Sparrow, Kade Chandler and Marty Hore. During the preseason nobody knew what was about to unfold. Round one begins under a cloud. The season commenced on the 19th of March and was suspended four days later due to the Corona Virus pandemic. It resumed on the 11th of June and ran until the 24th of October. A shortened season was played, comprising a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a final series featuring the top eight clubs. Melbourne eventually finished 9th missing the 8 by 2 points and 1.7%. The season saw the MFC start on its journey to a long anticipate 13th premiership the following season. The only premiership player not already on the list, Jake Bowey selected in the 2020 draft at pick 21. 2019 - arrives with high expectations after the finals run in 2018. Again, Melbourne gets busy in the trade period. Dean Kent departs to St Kilda for pick 65. Dom Tyson heads over to the Kangaroos for Braydon Preuss and pick 62, Jess Hogan heads home to Fremantle along with pick 65 for pick 6 and 23 and Steven May and Kade Kolodjashnij arrive for pick 6. There is a further pick swap with St Kilda, pick 28 arrives for picks 36 and 46. Tom Bugg, Dion Johnstone, Mitch King, Pat McKenna and Cameron Pederson are delisted. Harley Balic and Bernie Vince retire. The National draft sees Tom Sparrow (27), James Jordon (33), Aaron Neitschke (53), Marty Hore (56) and Toby Bedford (75) added to the list. Corey Maynard is elevated from the rookie list. Kade Chandler (15) is selected in the rookie draft. Austin Bradtke and Guy Walker are added as Category B rookies. Corey Wagner and Jay Lockhart are taken in the pre-season supplemental selection period. Stephen May, Tom Sparrow, Kade Chandler and Marty Hore are added to the list of men still standing along with Jack, T.Mac, the skipper, Salem, Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Alex Neal-Bullen, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham, Joel Smith Jake Lever Charlie Spargo, Bailey Fritsch and Harrison Petty. The season never gets going and after a plethora of off-season surgeries the team never gains any momentum. By seasons end Melbourne finish 17th on the ladder with 5 wins only ahead of Gold Coast. The team and supporters had been dragged "To Hell and Back." 2018. Anticipation builds after the disappointment at the end of 2017. After 2 years of inaction in the trade period Melbourne get serious. Jake Lever is the main target and arrives from Adelaide along with pick 35 and Adelaide's 2018 3rd rounder for Pick 10 and 2018 first and fourrth round picks. Harley Balic arrives from Freo for pick 31. Melbourne is shaping as a destination club. Jack Trengove is delisted after never properly recovering from a serious foot injury. Liam Hulett, Ben Kennedy Jake Spencer and Mitch White are also delisted. Colin Garland and Heritier Lumumba retire. The National draft sees Charlie Spargo (29), Bailey Fritsch (31), Harrison Petty (37) and Oskar Baker (48) added to the list Joel Smith is elevated from the rookie list. No one is selected in the rookie draft. The list is now starting to gain momentum. Charlie Spargo, Bailey Fritsch and Harrison Petty are added to the list of men still standing along with Jack, T.Mac, the skipper, Salem, Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Alex Neal-Bullen, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham and Joel Smith. After an up and down season Melbourne miss the top 4 by 1 game with a far superior percentage to 4th placed Hawthorn. Melbourne eliminates both Geelong and Hawthorn in the first 2 weeks of the finals in front of massive crowds at the G. They head to Perth with an air of anticipation. From the first bounce of the preliminary final, Melbourne is well and truly outclassed by the eventual premiers West Coast. The stage is set for 2019. 2017. Simon Goodwin takes over the reigns as senior coach. For the second year in a row Melbourne had no involvement in Free Agency. The Trade period saw Michael Hibberd and pick 59 arrive from Essendon for picks 48 and 66, Pat McKenna and picks 51 and 69 arrive from GWS for picks 57 and 59. In a late surprise, Jordan Lewis and picks 57 and 68 arrive from Hawthorn for picks 48 and 66. Lynden Dunn and pick 51 are traded to Collingwood for pick 47. Chris Dawes, Jack Grimes, Matt Jones, Max King, Viv Mitchie, Ben Newton and Dean Terlich were all delisted. Having traded out their 2016 First rounder in the 2015 trade period, Melbourne entered the National draft with a mediocre draft hand. Mitch Hannan (46) and Dion Johnstone (68) are added to the list. Josh Wagner is elevated from the rookie list. The Rookie draft sees Lachlan Filipovic (8), Tim Smith (25) and Declan Keilty (41) added as rookies. Corey Maynard is added as a category B rookie. No players are added to the list of men still standing which remains as Jack, T.Mac, the skipper, Salem, Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Alex Neal-Bullen, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham and Joel Smith. The season ends in heartbreak. With less than a minute left in the last game of the season the Demons were still, in the eight by a fraction of a percent. West Coast Eagles were playing top of the ladder Adelaide in Perth. A goal to Jack Darling with only minutes remaining on the clock sees the Eagles edge passed the Demons and into eighth spot by 0.5 of a percent. Thanks EO, I appreciate the sentiment. I have a lot of shots of preseason training dating back to the 2013 season, some good and some not so good. It has been an interesting experience going back and reviewing them season by season. As for the time, I recently retired, so I have plenty of spare time. 6.

Hi Dazzle, Thanks for the feedback. It's probably due to the band width on the device you are viewing from. They are all produced in 4K. There is a bit of mucking around to get them set up as stills in a slide show. I've recreated the latest one in a lower resolution that should be suitable for viewing on a mobile device. Let me know if it makes any difference. If not, I'll see what can be done about packaging them up into a photo slideshow format. 2016 - Starman mbl ==>https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-Pm7mRh/i-LdCJFFV/A 2016 - Starman 4K ==>https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MhQnCP/i-nzqkvQm/A

2016 Melbourne enters the 3rd and last year under Pual Roos as Coach. For the first time in a while Melbourne had no involvement in Free Agency. The Trade period saw Jake Melksham arrive from Essendon for pick 25, Jeremy Howe departs to Collingwood and Jimmy Toumpas to Port Adelaide for Ben Kennedy and picks 29 and 50. Jack Fitzpatrick was traded to Hawthorn for pick 94. In the first year of trading future picks the Dees traded picks 6 29 and 2016 first rounder for Picks 3 10 and 43 from Gold Coast in an attempt to get ahead of the bombers who had significant compensation picks. Picks 10, 43 and 64 then went to the Giants for Thomas Bugg and Pick 7. Melbourne had started its use of future picks to significantly improve their draft hand. Daniel Cross retired, but stayed as an assistant coach, Viv Michie, Rohan Bail, Mark Jamar, Jordie McKenzie and Aidan Riley were all delisted. The National draft saw Clayton Oliver (4), Sam Weideman (9), Mitch King (42) and Liam Hulett (46) added to the list. The Rookie draft saw Josh Wagner (6) and Viv Michie (24) and Joel Smith (41) added as rookies. Melbourne's list is starting to resemble a poker deck with four Jacks, a couple of Kings and quite possibly a couple of aces. Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham and Joel Smith are now added to the list of only men still standing along with, Jack, T.Mac, the skipper, Salem, Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw and Alex Neal-Bullen. The season saw steady improvement with 10 wins and a rise on the ladder to 11th. Melbourne's future round trade to Gold Coast had given up pick 8 in the 2016 draft (picks 6 29 and future 8 for Picks 3 10 and 43) Enjoy. 2016 - Starman ==>https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MhQnCP/i-nzqkvQm/A 2015 - Foundation ==> https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MhQnCP/i-VLMSNqD/A 2014 – New Hope ==> https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MhQnCP/i-Wkj43BD/A 2013 – Annus Horribilis ==> https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-MhQnCP/i-bWkHdxp/A

October 6th, 2014, Melbourne has a good draft hand thanks to their lowly finish and the departure of James Frawley as a free agent to Hawthorn. Jeff Garlett, Heritier Lumumba and Sam Frost have joined during the trade period and Mitch Clark is traded to Geelong. Dom Barry and Shannon Byrnes retired, and Sam Blease, Mitch Clisby, Michael Evans, Alex Georgiou, Daniel Nicholson, James Strauss and Luke Tapscott were all delisted. The National draft saw Christian Petracca (2, Thankyou St Kilda), Angus Brayshaw (3), Alex Neal-Bullen (40), Billy Stretch (42 father son) and Oscar McDonald (53) added to the list. Neville Jetta was elevated from the Rookie list. The Rookie draft saw Aaron Vandenberg (2) and Mitch White (20) added as rookies. Simon Goodwin joins the Demons in late 2014, serving as an assistant coach under Paul Roos as part of a succession plan to take over as senior coach. Brendan MacCartney Departs the Western Bulldogs and is lured to the Demons. The appointment is seen as one for the long term, with Demons’ coach-in-waiting Simon Goodwin seeing McCartney as the ideal offsider and confidant for his tenure. Disaster in February for Petracca. The 19-year-old's knee buckled after falling awkwardly in a marking contest, forcing him to limp from the track. Scans after the training incident confirmed the terrible news, a rupture of the ACL in his left knee. He was to miss the entire season, returning to training late in the year. Fan favorite Jack Trengove continues to recover from an injury to his navicular which occurred early in the 2014 season which saw him miss almost two years of football and effectively ends his career. Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw and Alex Neal-Bullen are now added to the list of only men still standing along with, Jack, T.Mac, the skipper and Salem. The season saw green shoots appear with 7 wins and a rise on the ladder to 13th. May 2013, Peter Jackson is appointed as CEO and the long climb back begins. By the end of that year Neeld was gone. Daniel Cross and Aidan Riley had arrived, and Colin Sylvia had departed all under free agency. Dom Tyson, Bernie Vince and Viv Mitchie arrived during the trade period. I can’t believe we gave up pick 2, 20 and 72 for Tyson and picks 9 and 53. Aaron Davey, David Rodan and Joel Macdonald retired, and James Sellar, Josh Tynan, Troy Davis, Tom Gillies, Tom Couch, James Magner, Nathan Stark Rory Taggert and Neville Jetta were all delisted. The National draft saw Christian Salem (9), Jay Kennedy-Harris (40), Jaden Hunt (57) and Mitch Clisby (82) added to the list. Ther Rookie draft saw James Harmes (2), Max King (19), Alexis Georgiou (35) and Neville Jetta (50) added as rookies. Paul Roos is lured to the club by Jackson as senior couch to start the rebuild. During that preseason a young fresh-faced Angus Brayshaw and Billy Stretch are invited to train with the club. Christian Salem is now added to the list of only men still standing along with, Jack, T.Mac and the skipper. It was a tough season which saw Melbourne finish 17th on the ladder with 4 wins and only ahead of St Kilda on percentage. The slow climb back had begun.
