  1. Surely we have learnt our lesson with picking for positions (Luke Molan??). With high draft picks you pick the best available!!!! Scully and Trengrove for me! Can never have to many gun mids! And we dont really have any at the moment!

there's no way of knowing who the best availble is, it could be scully, it could be butcher, it could be Trengove......etc

if they make it at all.

I'm happy for MFC to make the call, on who to take.

    if picks 1 & 2 give's us anything, it's hope.

  2. Now that Casey are assured of finishing 5th or 6th in the finals the question will be which Melbourne based plyers will be available and eligable to play for them come finals time to hopefully secure some silver wear? Off the top of my head the players I came up with that may be available and eligable are:

    Buckley

    Bartram

    Miller???

    Dunn

    Cheney

    Newton (if fit)

    McNamara

    Jetta???

    Bail (if fit)

    Spencer

    Bennell???

    Valenti

    Whelan (if fit)

    Jurrah

    McKenzie

Not sure if I've missed anyone, and also not sure on whether Miller, Jetta or Bennell have played enough games to qualify, also will be waiting on fitness of Newton, Bail & Whelan.

Anyone know if I've missed anyone or if any of the above wont be able to make a finals appearance?

    J watts would qualify maybe

  3. Brayshaw i think it was, was talking about how Butcher's suss kicking ability will seriously limit his overall output. They then went on about how you can only improve a players kicking roughly 10-15% (i think it was) once they reach 17 or 18. Changing someones kicking style is one of the hardest things to do in coaching of you believe those 4.

Garry went on about his son already having a bad kicking style and how he refuses to listen to his old man to correct it. Doesn't look so good for a father son pick up there.

Brayshaw would love it if butcher fell to north's pick.

  4. Again, Bailey obviously begs to differ.

I don't see how you can make such a call. Leadership aside, the club wouldn't pick McDonald if they didn't think he would be able to play to a required level or such that he was being given a "charity" spot in the side. Not a good message for the players and not a good situation to keep a player.

We are NOT any other club and quite frankly that question gets bandied around from time to time too often about players with little regard to context. We are MFC and we have our own priorities and goals and it would not be prudent by the club to not ensure we have the best possible group of young players as we go forward. Given the circumstances, the MFC brains trust beleives that he is good enough to play for our team and that is all that matters - but if you really want a team I'll say Port, I'll take McDonald over Josh Carr atm. McDonald is not going to be consistently cutting it up next year, you don't expect that from a 33 yr old but that isn't the point. He can play at a good level though as we have seen in the last month. We are talking one more year here not a 3 yr contract. He is on the veterans list ffs so the cost is minimal for such a potential gain with our list going forward. I admit that I am a touch surprised at how keen the club was to re-sign him but that's the point isn't it? - I'm on the outside and they are the inner sanctum and if they were that keen to sign him then he must be doing something right and play a very important role that many of us may not understand.

    agree...
