Any club leader would also have recognised this - im a tally astounded he wasn't walked out of the club then and there. If that time correlates with coffee with Bucks - it means our i coming Pres is 100% in tune with the needs of the club going forwards.
I thought the season was done after round 2.
I thought Goodwin was done after round 5. That loss to the Bombers in Adelaide was unforgiveable.

To me, this would imply that internal discussions on Goody would have started well before this for us to have actually reached the point where we were sounding out prospective coaches. Obviously our โ24 years performance sowed a number of seeds of doubt.
Season was over once we lost to North by 10 goals in round 2. The next few games just sealed the deal.

He stuck with the same midfield soldiers that won a flag 4 years when everyone in the comp saw that the game was changing to more transition.
Only took him this year to realise that he actually had to change the game plan to a more running and transition style
He was pretty slow to adapt.
And even after he realised he still found it difficult to part with his favourites. This year should've been about getting midfield minutes into Rivers, Windsor, Langford even McVee one the season was done but Viney, Oliver and Petracca kept dominating midfield minutes. Petracca I can cop, one of Oliver or Viney as well but not both.

Would also be worth it for some inside intel on Pies players that may see us stop being their bunnies. Next Kings Bday game would be huge.

Changing coaches is not the fix xmany here seem to think it is, and the "fresh voice" line trotted out by the board is so demonstrably flawed as a business strategy that I'm surprised they had the gall to use it.
The human species often confuses change for progress.
Yes we know, you would've signed Goodwin up for life because the coach is actually useless and doesn't effect anything so why not? The players loved, sorry respected, him after all and that's been working so well the last few years.

Poor Ed was probably still shocked and had yet to get his head around it. You say it speaks to the level of comfort of the playing group under Goodwin. I say it speaks to the sadness and shock of the playing group immediately upon learning of the loss of Goodwin.
You're still misinterpreting what was said.

Folks complain about players and coaches trotting out the same old hackneyed bs lines, then Ed speaks from his heart and you think he needs a distraction???!
You're arguing against something @MrFreeze didn't say.
He never said he had an issue with Langdon's comments or whether he should be honest or not. He said it speaks to the comfort level of the playing group under Goodwin and the need for some "disruption" to kick them into gear (not "distraction").

If you still think we just bomb it down the line all the time I suggest you watch closer and also watch what other teams do Gonzo
I have been watching and specifically keeping an eye on that the last month. Still way too much bombing down the line and playing the wings.

A good coach will back themselves to get him back to his best over trading him for a second round pick. Or theyโll at least try.
Finding another peak Clarry is 10 times harder than trading him for a second rounder.
I'd trade him for a 3rd and hope the other club takes his full salary. I see him as akin to Beams, peak Beams was up there with the best in the comp too but once it was gone, it was gone.
It's also about more than his performance, it's his impact on the culture and the playing group.
Edit @Howard_Grimes summed it up perfectly

Yes, we were struggling to finish off those games, but we have a percentage of 108.7% and a record of 7-8 since Round 6. That is a trend upwards given the previous year.
And again, I don't know how many times I have to say it, but I wasn't against the sacking. I don't like the timing or its handling.
As for Alan Richardson allegedly being on the selection panel for the next coach, who was the person responsible for ensuring off field matters with Clarry and Trac were handled appropriately and professionally? That's not up to the senior coach. And who is responsible for the wider football department? Alan Richardson. And yet he seems to have got a pass. Mind boggling.
I'm sure some of the players won't be too keen on him. He had to be consulted on the senior coach being sacked. I haven't heard a single positive thing about Richo until he has a year remaining on his contract and he's allegedly doing a good job.
And thanks to the restructure that Pert did at the end of 2020 you had Richo being moved from Goody's mentor to his boss. Soft cap constraints aside, a toxic and confusing, conflict riddled management structure I would have thought.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the first point. I didn't see much different game style wise and the same issues that have been there for years persisted.
Agree on your second point, Richo was foisted upon us by the AFL with the help of his mate Pert, can't think of any positives he's actually brought to the club and should have been out the door last year.
POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
in Melbourne Demons
Windsors pace was good but his disposal/decision making was shocking. Hopefully gains composure with experience.
Was great seeing Bowey forward, I've been wanting one of him, Salem or McVee across half forward for 2 years. We need some clean entries inside 50 and he offered it.
Adams was good early but got found out as the game wore on. Went to ground too often and too easily pushed out of contests.
Viney was Viney, all heart but an absolute butcher of the ball.
