@Ugottobekidding is clearly a troll. People get sucked in very easily.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
I think you'll find Lewis and Jones will be competing for the same spot next season. Interesting that Salem, May and Hibberd are all left footers. We've really gone hard for those left footers in recent year. They're coming out of our ears these days.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
They are just words, but they do have relevance to the conversation, otherwise we'd use different words. He's a good player and would make us better. And I'd agree he'd be ahead of Lever as best one-on-one defender, but I'd argue Lever is the better player for his role. But, it's about them complimenting each other and improving our list. May is certainly a better player than OMac or Frost, so we've got a significant upgrade there. Sounds like he's coming, which is great news. FWIW, I'd play May deeper and get OMac at CHF, but agree with the rest.

That's not what I said at all. But you intimated May was elite and I disagree. That's all.

Their mids stood up too. That cannot be underplayed.

Is May an elite defender though? Happy to have him, but he's certainly (for me) not in the same class as McGovern.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Agreed they could work together, but it's worth noting the very different game style West Coast plays. They're a kicking team that set up beautifully to defend. That said, Collingwood play a similar brand of pressure footy that we do and rely on their mids to get the job done and their small forwards (and Cox) when they get it inside.

That's the guy I'd be going for. I'd take Shiel of course, but not for a mill. Whereas, Kelly might be worth that.

Aaron vandenBerg not going - signs a new deal!!!
@Demon from Sydney going hard in the trading cheese board. I like it.

Could only bring myself to watch the second half, but what a game! He may have had a good second half, but Darling is an absolute crumbler. Could have cost them the flag with that simple fumble in the goal square. Anyway, Pies stuck on 15 flags and there was definitely some Collywobble there, but in the end, West Coast are a slightly better side. And we lost to the eventual Premiers, just as we did in '94.

Well, this post could have been worse...

Agreed. I've been advocating for a while that AVB and Kent weren't good enough, so it doesn't bother me. Just that the unity within the best 14-16 players is still strong.

This is more likely.

I know he was injured. Might point was across 2018 at all. I only heard there was frustration earlier in the year. But obviously I'm speculating, with very little to go on.

Unless he wanted midfield minutes...

Read the thread, HH. It's all been covered.

I'm speculating here, but I wonder if Kent, Hogan, Tyson and AVB were some of the players that didn't appreciate being played out of position earlier in 2018. I hope esprit de corps continues to strength the spirit within the group and with a couple leaving the club, I hope the boys solidify their commitment to each other like the Geelong and Hawthorn sides of the recent past.

Premiership quality? What does that actually mean, DD? He's proved himself to be a good little role player in his first season and that includes some real impact in a final or two. What are you expecting? That every player is an A grade superstar of "premiership quality"? I know you don't think that, so I hope you'll soon see you're simply venting due to coming to grips with Jesse leaving.

Because he fills a need in our best 22 and we are in our window. FCS. You don't win premierships by playing it safe. Time to win that 13th flag. And as others have said, I doubt it will be as simple as May for a first rounder. It'll likely be May and something else (likely KK) for that first rounder.
