there... Tracca is a midfielder.!
He leans forward to kick, when on the run to kick long.

The sport would survive quite easily if the umpire abuse was at a minimum.
But the sport needs to be fixed so as to make it a lot easier to umpire. I have outlined previously what I'd do to fix the sport so I won't go there again (for the time being) The game is harder to umpire than it ever was thus causing even greater frustration.
The AFL is at fault but they won't be putting their hands up in a hurry
In the meantime, nothing much will change. It would be like trying to quell booing. I am not advocating the outlawing of umpire abuse (although I'd rather not have to witness it) I'd rather try and convince people to calm down and see the big picture.
And ultimately, our club has much bigger fish to fry in order to achieve ultimate success. We are miles off right now.
I agree with all of that, in principle 'M'.
I am Not an umpire abuser, and 'cringe' when I here the white-maggot calls.
I also cringe when I here, 'hard as a cats-head' calls. Which is surely to incite sadistic cruelty as a real behaviour. In essence, they are really spreading and exercising they're fear and hate.
Creating more fear and hate, out in the community.
All these things are born Out of hatred, and fear. And a wish to impart their desires and control over things.
Bigotry and bias are the tools.

I see the humour dl but the noise at the footy would still be quite high without the constant umpire abuse. Just like any other sport where the umpire/referee abuse is at a minimum.
And those who don't abuse umpires don't stand around like statues ... I am quite vocal at the footy yet I never blame umpires or abuse them. And screaming out 'ball' does not constitute umpire abuse. Or other such verbals.
Abusing the umpires has always crossed a line in my opinion. There is no need.
The umpires are not out to get us nor are they plotting our downfall. If we're measuring the whole thing by flags won in the last 5+ decades, the umpires are the least of our concerns. It's best not to get sidetracked.
Take today for instance - only a win is acceptable in my eyes. We're 3 & 8 and we should be doubly determined to get back on the board. And if we cop a few doubtful decisions we should be good enough to overcome that.
ME TOO !

Unfortunately, according to draft watchers, it’s a midfielders draft among the top 20 - 30 picks this year.
Anyway, there’s no such thing as a ‘ready made’ 18yo key forward.
We must and I believe we will trade for one, or possibly look at a FA. Goodwin’s honeymoon is over. He knows he needs W’s and plenty of them in 2020 or it’s job on the line time.
In order I’d be going hard at:
Ben Brown
Jon Patton
Jack Darling ???
Charlie Dixon
I think we need to trade for a mobile CHF.
Not too tall, but strong, aggressive and agile. A modern version of Dermot would suffice. A Ross Glendinning, or Malcolm Blight type of build, and agility/mobility.
Jon Patton, OK for a pocket role, but I now think we can draft for this position.
...............................
I just read and watched the thread, Casey kid is a Kiwi.
I hadnn't realised Mykelti Lefau was tall. I had seen vision of him last year, but I did not realise he is 6'-4" tall.
He moves well, and is Quick, and agile... could suit our Key Wi needs. ? ???

Perhaps the way to take away any form of abuse of anyone at an AFL match would be to make ' total silence' a condition of entry to all AFL grounds. That would stop umpire abuse in its tracks. And end any nastiness between opposition fans.
Do it Gil !!!! For the good of the game.
HaHa... great idea, 'p d'.
And in the silence... if anyone is spotted breaking the Decibel restrictions, the nearest drone could 'Taser' them from in front. Shown on-screen as a deterrent to the masses, to behave themselves.
Failing that, they could be escorted straight to the nearest food-stall and force fed, and have to pay.

Flat out wrong, indigenous Australians weren't even allowed to vote or be recognized as citizens until the 70's. Sounds a lot like Tibet or Sudan to me, his parents would have been able describe the invasion pretty well. Also massacres of indigenous communities were occurring in the 20th Century, this is not 200 years ago.
Yet for all of this terrible history, we as a country are going in the right direction, let's not bugger it up by being dishonest about the historical record. Own it, and let's get on making it a place where everyone gets a fair go.
Yes... and Catkin Cook did not discover Australia.! Not even for the Europeans.

I’ve said nothing about myself other than indicate I am of white Anglo-Saxon heritage. That you believe all white people are “privileged” and have been dealt a “swell hand” underlines your own prejudices, not mine. Go spend a few days observing people come and go at Centrelink to see just how wrong you are.
Compassion is wonderful thing, but not blind compassion. It is right and fair to remember the past and acknowledge tragedy. If some redressment is possible in the form of affirmative action policies then enact those. But to fixate upon the misery the way some people do, defining their whole personhood on events which happened two centuries ago, runs the very real risk of that individual or group developing a VICTIM MENTALITY.
When that type of attitude is adopted, as any psychologist will tell you, the softer side of compassion can easily devolve into something altogether unhelpful. That kind of ‘compassion’ is not really compassion at all. It’s ignorance.
Do you believe our 1st nation people's, must adopt and live by, our Western ways... and values, 'MB'.?

Yesterday the AFL released an Apology to Adam Goodes for not standing by him.
For the final years of Goodes' decorated career they receded into the background and did nothing while he was being vilified by crowds at games and by 'personalities' in the media and effectively hounded out of the game.
The AFL has had 4 years to apologise but has not. This week two docos are released on Goodes last years in the game. They are docos in which the AFL and some key people in the industry, by their own actions and words are complicit in and added to the trauma Goodes endured. I haven't seen the docos so can't comment on them.
But I will say they AFL should be supremely embarrassed that it has taken 4 years to apologise. Its hard to think there is much sincerity let alone contrition in the apology and its timing suggests it is to preempt the docos tarnishing of its 'reputation' and divert attention from the docos. The AFL are controlling 'the optics' as usual!!
Whatever one thinks of Goodes or how he played the game its hard to accept how he was neglected by the AFL and those it can influence. I find the belated apology shallow and opportunistic. I would have applauded the apology had it been made when Goodes retired.
Not saying the AFL should be the moral flag bearers of our society. But it should stand up and be counted when it comes to any of its players let alone one of its champions. How does the saying go: the standards we walk past are the standards we accept. Now, the apology is, imv too little, too late.
I recall feeling annoyed at Goodes's treatment, of the booing and the bullying tones he had to endure... for just being a victim who dared to make a stand on a big issue... for his indigenous communities, and really for the Goode of US all.

Not sure how this team would gel together as far as personalities and positional aspects go .......by it would be great to find out
Sorry, I've cheated by naming so many emergencies. I have watched and supported the D's passionately since very early 70's. My team is somewhat emotion based and I have probably favored the heart over the head with some selections. Left out 3 Brownlow medalists - Moore, Wilson and Woewodin. I really struggled with Alves or Tingay on the wing (maybe Stingers missed games through injuries cost him the spot). Of the current crop only Jones - but I think Oliver and Gawn could maybe find a spot in the future ....and possibly Petracca if he can show continued improvement and consistency AND hopefully some others?? Hogan, J.Viney, N.Jetta.....Leaver??
*Honorable mention for D.Bennett - averaged 2.76 goals per game - and probably the best kick I've seen at the D's
