  1. If you go into a oppo player to belittle him, it can go either way. Against a strong side down on form, being arrogant can cause the oppo side to fire up. Or give them ammunition for when they are back to full strength, for next time. This is how I would hope our players would react, in that case.
  2. There's very little punching on going on, in NRL. very little. not like the old days. willm
  3. I think we might see a couple rested. again, Maybe TMc & Spargo.
  4. And they all seem to speak in humble and old fashioned respectful ways about the game, and only of one another in more hushed tones and with humor. The NRL have a lot of talented people, and because the game is smaller than ours, there is more humility and a more of a communal feel about it all. Our commentary all seem to come off like KnowitAlls and some sort of Toorak snobs. A bit too high and mighty. Its really off-putting, and that is why I mention Mike Williamson so often. He was so humble Re his position in the game, and always sounding like how appreciative he was in being in his position calling games. A genuine love of the game came thru in his excitement, which he didn't have to put-on,,, nor exaggerate. the ex players were only there foe special comments. It was better that way, and I think the NRL still use that model of commentary. In F1, its mostly this way as well, although is starting to change, and maybe to its detriment. When the Pro's start to call the games, it can get to being like pulling wings off Fly's. All stats and tech talk, and too much boring crap. which soaks up all the excitement and jovial feelings.
  5. In AFL, I miss the man on man match-ups, that would often stay for the whole match. star on star. The surprise from an unexpected Torpedo Punt kick. The high mark from the back of the pack, or from the side,,, and generally the open spaces that allow individuals to show their skills, running, dodging, weaving, opposite hand bounce, and drilling the ball low and hard from 48Mtrs thru the sticks on the run. The clean simplicity and spontaneity that is allowed with having open spaces to do the things that highlight our game. I don't want to see WWE tag team wrestling, or basketball, or a version of soccer.
  6. Yep, keep the lid on until some time AFTER the Bye. We will just keep on creeping up, as far as we can. And see where it unfolds. Not putting pressure on is best for us, atmo. Everyone remember; we are very young; don't hold us down, But, just don't talk us up,,, yet. Let the boys play with the freedom of Nil expectation for a bit longer,,, as we continue to grow in confidence.
  7. Don't worry Billy we will go under any Radar, behind enemies lines, and shag them while they're all gloating.
  8. I agree with this, but this in't the biggest problem; or all that would be needed would be to turn the sound right down. It's the product that is dying, from since the Pro times, slowly the playing field has become to small, for the run the players are developing. the commentators and the tv station commentary try to sell us fibs by talking up the game that once did not need pumping up.. The game once did its own bidding. Without any fluff talk. Umpires waiting for the TV add cue. Bias in scheduling. List management, and trying to get low on the ladder, for early selections. Happening again now this year. (the big blew) VFL being trashed and teams losing happily as they teach the kids whist PAYING customers feel RIPPED OFF. They are trashing the Aussie Rules game, without really understanding that... because they are all so arrogant, they think they can do anything, and get away with it !!!
  9. We missed out because we were too weak kneed, and conservative, cow towing... And not footy minded enough off the field. Our own incompetence is what caused those bad years we endured, from the time of Smiths sacking, and on-wards. At board level since Pre Smiths sacking, we have been atrocious. Accepting the time of Barassi & Seddon. That ended like Whitlam, came and went, far too quickly.
  10. I'm finding that AFL is too repetitive, and I prefer NRL when Storm play. I miss the earlier AFL games of the 90's and early 2000's. When the game was much more spontaneous, less regimented. Its too organised for me, these days.
  11. No wonder you didn't like it, you went tourist route. You have to get out into the backstreets, and the cafes, and provinces, to see the real French. Not the western tourist spots.
  12. I love Paris. The Parisians, and the French of the provinces. Lovely, friendly, happy people.
  13. And no surprise why we spent the past 50 Years struggling, because of AFL favouritism of power clubs, and our own incompetence off the field.
  14. If this happens for real, going that way, they will kill the game off. support will leave in droves. people are no longer as naive as we all once were 40 years back. We can all tell, what fairness looks and feels like. and it s not in red black and white. Or navy blew.
  15. I'm not prepared to gamble our footy culture, on believing that. Because it is our Australian culture as well we gamble with;, on-top of our Aussie Rules game.
  16. That shytes me, as much as the media bully boy clubs here in Victoria.
  17. I like watching it too Cards. Have had since the 80's SOO games. These days the NRL game is getting more skilled, due to the Storm, and they're kicking has learnt from Aus-rules, here in Melbourne, and to a lesser extent in Sydney town. I enjoy the Organic simplicity of the NRL game, without all the arrogant ex-player media commentary we are showered with, in Victorian-AFL media...
  18. That is the concern to me... and I think we should be working together with the NRL to hold both our positions and share our skills, working together. Foreign foot ball sports are the enemy, IMO. But our issue today is the product we put out there. The congestion is horrible, because of rotations, and the lack of one on one match-ups. The highlight skills we once watched, have slowly dried up. And are too-few, these days.
  19. I wonder if a little clean-out late last season, has had a positive effect on our players. All players now go in when its they're turn to go and all players pressure chase and contest all times. a change that warms my heart. A reflection of our best contested leader at the club, even with his apprentice in close behind his right shoulder.
  20. its not the scheduling that is the main culprit, IMO. scheduling is a smaller issue, to the real problem.
  21. and that's what I'm hoping for, by mentioning it here. If the tone we spread, is a bit cautious; hopefully that will aid the team in its quest to win again against a team on its knees atmo. The Crows didn't turn up on this weekend gone, and that's what I'm cautioning against, for us this week. They had prepared for the game in Alice. The game yesterday was sapping, and I hope we do not have a let down, this week. Preparation or not.
  22. past seasons, and earlier in the season.. Its the next hoodoo we have to put an end to, in our march forward.
  23. They're problem is the same as ours, traditionally. A common like of bathwater, when things are just dishy. A certain way to give a club a decent upset gut for about 4 months on the Trotski. Lets not do, what they're doing, and get a head of ones self. keepin the lid on the bin, stayin humble, and appreciating the good times.
