The Demons are putting on a bit of a show here against the Hawks. They lead at half time 9.7.61 to 5.2.32. To underline the importance of the game, both teams are on 3 wins and 3 losses and the winner could go into third spot on the ladder.

On cue, Box Hill score the first goal of the day. They are definitely the hoodoo team for Casey.

The Development League game against the Box Hill Hawks is due to start in about 20 minutes. The match is a replay of the 2016 DL Grand Final which from a Casey POV was quite forgettable. The strange thing about all of this is the fixturing of the AFL Development League competition The Demons have a bye next week and their next game after the break is against ... Box Hill Hawks at the City Oval, Box Hill. That's more than a little bizarre as far as I'm concerned.

Their 3-4 record could be the result of a tough draw – they’ve already played three of the top four teams, but inconsistency has been an issue. The Demons are coming off two victories in a row, and will look to get on a mid-season roll by beating Collingwood at home. The Magpies are also in good spirits, breaking a run of five consecutive losses after a 14-point win at home against Sandringham. A Casey win will see the Demons break away from the bottom pack of the ladder, while a Collingwood win will make things very tight in the position 9-12 range of the ladder – four teams will be equal on three wins.

We are into Round 8 of the 2017 VFL and finally, a Casey Demons game is going live and free to air on Saturday. Despite Casey's moderate form in the season to date and the fact that some of its fixtures were slotted in the evenings, it's a bit of a mystery why it has taken until almost mid-season for last year's grand finalist and minor premier to make it onto our screens - especially as the club has a new identity this year. Mitch Gent ices the game with a goal that takes Casey's lead out to 23 points at the 27 minute mark. He's been struggling in this game. Started forward but couldn't hold on to his grabs. Playing a bit better further downfield but won't get a promotion on today's efforts.

Coburg won't go away. They get one back but Casey lead by 3 goals.

Kennedy with his three goals has looked good, JKH has been a prolific ballwinner and Declan Keilty is going well but it's generally an even team effort in a game that isn't reaching great heights. Casey lead by 23 points at the 12 minute mark as a Coburg player is stretchered off.

It's been goal for goal as Angus Scott's goal put Casey in front but a quick reply from Coburg restored a 2 point lead for the home side. Then a goal to Casey's Dylan Gordon makes it 4.0.24 to 3.2.20. And that's the quarter time score!
