  1. BenKen gets his third to give the Demons some breathing space. They've been under pressure all game.
  2. Going into the final change, Casey lead by 16 points - Casey Demons 4.0.24 8.4.52 10.10.70 Coburg 3.2.20 5.5.35 8.6.54
  3. Casey's lead reduced to 11 points early in the third quarter.
  4. Angus Scott gets his second and Casey's 8th in the shadows of half time. Demons lead 52 - 37.
  5. Lead back to 15 points after a Coburg goal.
  6. ... followed by another to 50 gamer Ed Morris.
  7. Casey now leads by 15 points after its 6th straight goal - a ripper from Aloysio Ferreira.
  8. First blood in the second quarter to the accurate Demons through Kennedy who boots his second..
  9. It's been goal for goal as Angus Scott's goal put Casey in front but a quick reply from Coburg restored a 2 point lead for the home side. Then a goal to Casey's Dylan Gordon makes it 4.0.24 to 3.2.20. And that's the quarter time score!
  10. Ben Kennedy scores his first - it's a 1 point game.
  11. The Casey Demons, with 12 MFC listed players (no Mitch King) are off to a slow start. They trail 1.0.6 to 2.1.13 in the early going with their single goal scored by Moncrieff.
  12. Development League team wins by 5 goals. AFL Vic Development League 2017 Casey Demons 2.2.14 6.7.43 13.10.88 17.12.114 Coburg 3.4.22 6.5.41 9.5.59 13.6.84 Goals Casey Demons Gardiner 4 Lefau Zijai 3 Cotte 2 Briggs Cox Hillard Lok Coburg McRorie 3 Aujla Byrne Curtis El-Moussalli Ercolano Haberfield McDonald Romios Schraven Wunhym Best Casey Demons Baker Dwyer Dan Johnston Hiscock Lefau Gardiner Coburg Wunhym Karpany McRorie Curtis Ercolano Conn
  13. 3QT: Casey Demons have extended the lead to 29 points.
  14. Half time in the Development League at Piranha Park, Coburg and the Demons 6.7.43 lead the Lions 6.5.41.
  15. I agree with that sentiment. There's nothing to be lost by moving a player around the ground as part of his football education especially someone like Weideman who has talent but is still probably a year off being a regular at AFL level. With Jesse Hogan, Tim Smith and Melbourne's bigger ruckmen poised to return from injury, it's unlikely that the Weed is going to get the opportunities on the Demon forward line. Pedersen and Watts are ahead of him in that department as well. Often you can learn to become a better forward by playing down back. Ask David Nietz.
  16. This is a marvelous piece by the one and only Martin Flanagan who is a favourite around here. 'The invisible connect that binds': a football club reunion 40 years on I've chosen it for its wonderful story about football and family and great values that it describes and it's also relevant for its connection with MND which former Melbourne Football Club coach is suffering and working to find a cure. It's also about the Springvale Football Club which is now virtually defunct having rebranded and moved to Casey Fields in 2006 and now no longer known as the Scorpions. When Springvale won that premiership in 1977 it was in the old Federal League. The club joined the VFA in 1982. They are now known as the MFC-affiliated Casey Demons but very few vestiges of the past club remain. WJ remarked after their last win a fortnight ago the team sang "Its a Grand Old Flag", not the old Scorpions song. When the veterans of that 1977 grand final are gone, there will be no one to celebrate the Springvale Football Club.
  17. I'm going early with this week's VFL games on account of the fact that for Melbourne fans, they're the only games in town and it looks as if there will be a much stronger Demon contingent than there has been over the past month or so. The three players omitted from the Gold Coast Suns game would be in line for selection at Casey although the selectors might decide not to play Christian Salem who was out through suspension. However, Dean Kent and Sam Weideman should play. Based on the MFC's "official" injury list from last week, the additions to the side to come from this list should be Corey Maynard (concussion) and Tim Smith (ribs/punctured lung) who were both declared available last week. Jake Spencer could be the other possibility for a return if he comes up from his shoulder injury. There are still a few players who are still a fair way off returning. Congratulations to Casey captain Jack Hutchins and this year's big improver Bayley Fritsch on representing the VFL against the WAFL at the weekend. Fritsch was named in the best players in a losing team. Unfortunately, he is out this week.
