I enjoy their content and the passion. I certainly don't agree with everything said, but then again they often have conflicting opinions themselves which is as it should be. In a year when I have consumed less commercial content than at any other stage of my adult life, the Debrief boys and this site are my only staples other than the actual games.
I certainly appreciate the effort Adrian and the team put in to provide a range of content including a summary of every Casey game.

Umpiring has been poor all year. I do not believe that they are deliberately biased - just poor standard and some teams can end up getting the rub of the green. I have never seen so many games influenced by umpiring errors. I doubt that making them full time will significantly improve decisions as I believe the following cause decision making to be incredibly difficult.
Players staging & exaggerating contact.
Pace of the games makes it hard to make some decisions in real time.
Staging can be impossible to identify in real time and needs to be removed from the game culturally. It causes umpires to second guess decisions therefore adding complexity. Let's get the entire competition involved in working out a strategy to remove this and then 100% commit to agreed actions. My starting idea would be a 3 strike policy. Have each game reviewed my match review and implement a 3 strike policy for any players deemed to have staged.
Strike 1 = $1,000 fine
Strike 2 = $5,000 fine
Strike 3 = 1 match suspension.
I would have no time limit on strikes (i.e they never lapse) and allow no appeals (as you would have to do it three times to miss a match). I feel that this combined with name and shaming would significantly reduce staging.
For the pace of game issue I would allow an umpire watching the game on screen to be miked up with on field umpires. Let them overrule howler decisions in real time (i.e. When Melksham was pushed by Moore simply have decision reversed). In may slow down the game a little but nothing to the extent of a score review that sometimes happens after play has recommenced.
This would be my starting position and then continue to assess impact and enhancements.

Jeffo's second half of VFL Last year saw him dominate several games with good goal tallies 29 and finished 3rd in Caseys B& F Can conjure goals from nothing, clunk marks and tackles very well. Set shot routine for goals are very good I saw him kick 4 or 5 on one occasion and I believe we must bite the bullet and play him rather than at Casey where the inside 50s from lesser lights are SHIZZEN! .Emergency last 3 games of last year and very unlucky to only play against Norf and not Freo. Give him a go!
I'd like to see Jeffo get a run of games. Only problem is that it would have to be instead of Turner otherwise JVR needs to ruck. The question is how much better will we be with JVR as a permanent forward and does the risk of back spasms increase in the ruck? For me that is why AJ plays.
If Trac plays 60% forward, we immediately become more dangerous with a genuine A graders in each section of the ground Trac/Kossie - Clarry/Max - May/Lever. We could then continue with Riv as predominantly midfield. Trac could always go onball if supply is an issue.Â

Trac has to stay in a HF or forward of stoppage / link player role. He is wasted somewhat in the middle. Â
If Oliver can get back to his best and dominate clearances (big if) and have some defensive accountability, big win.Â
Â
I am genuinely bullish about the Dee's for next year. I too would love for Trac to play predominantly forward. It gives our forward line a certified A grader (& Kozzie) which I think would trouble opposition clubs. The question would be how Trac feels about this and whether this is factored in given the off season turmoil.Â
I also think JVR & Turner are first picked key position forwards. If Jeffo plays - JVR rucks, if Johnson plays - JVR does not ruck.Â
A revitalized Clarry & a combination of Rivers, McVee, Kolt & Langdon help refresh our midfield.Â

Unbelievable get for the footy club.Â
Had the privilege of attending a leadership forum up in Brisbane last year where he was a guest speaker and conducted some workshops. He spoke about all things mindfulness, leadership and perspective.
Personally I came away from his session really rejuvenated and gained a whole new perspective from a leadership and life perspective.Â
I've also attended some of his workshops via my employer. In my opinion, he makes any organization better. In addition to the success he has had mentoring high performance athletes, he has also worked with industry CEO's. I love the thought of Clarry & Trac having access to Ben all season.Â

I think the bones are there to have a functioning forward line.
My key concerns are:
1. Back up ruck - this just can’t be JVR anymore. He has to be our main forward target. If this means Fullarton plays then so be it, as I’d rather him rucking than Petty.
2. Additional mid/small - these players are so important in the modern game and with ANB gone we need someone to step up. Will be between Sharp, Spargo, Billings and Laurie I think. Unless we get someone in the draft who fits the bill.
Good call - This is exactly what we have done.Â

spellingLast day of annual leave so made it down for the entire session. Just a couple of impressions
Clarry - Engaged and connected. Very playful with teammates, knocking ball out of Roo's hands & laughing, Volunteered to act as key forward, chat and a hug with Goody. Any thought of him not wanting to be here was put to rest in my mind.
Roo - Looked a class above in contested situations. Great use of body. Good hands and found space.
AMW - Clean skills and a touch of class. In 1:1 drill with Chin, beat him 5 times in a row. Disposal good all session.Â
Jeffo - Looked smooth. Led well, made good position and was dangerous in contested situations. Also a couple of great shots at goal including one in general play from about 60 meters out. On todays session I would have Roo, Disco & Jeffo as my key three forwards. Petty also had great body positioning playing in defence (as previously mentioned). He came to the fore in 1:1 contents.
Kentfield - Was very impressed with his general play, leading and kicking. Looks a great size and has talent. Struggled a bit when the running started. A good prospect.
Verrall -Â More skilled than I had previously thought. Showed some ability forward and as a link in play.
Bowey - Lethal by foot, kicking darts.

I would have thought it a no brainer to at least allow sub on whilst any concussion protocol is in progress. It encourages completion of the SCAT test as a team will not be a man down (several clubs have used on ground assessments this season and then cited delayed concussion. If player passes the concussion protocol, then the sub can come back off. A simple positive OHS play.

Meh.Â
I would remind GWS that we were easy to deal with and reasonable to deal with when we traded Bedford to them.
If they don't trade Derksen for a packet of chips then I hope we dig out heals in the next time it comes to trading with them.
I thought Bedford was a free agent. Something to do with no of years on rookie list. We offered him a 3 year deal but he liked the vision GBW painted for him after not getting much game time with us.Â

My take is that external review and some player discontent combined with doubts whether Clarry will get back to his best and/or be value for money, means that we are open to option of moving him on.
Â
Stumbling block is that we cannot afford to give him away for nothing. Our current stance with Cats is to come back with a deal that is mutually beneficial and that we can sell (to members and public) or there will be no trade.
Â
Clarry is my all time favourite player, but there is little doubt that his behaviour and how the club has dealt with it has been a contributor to our lack of a second premiership. You need most things going right to win a premiership and this has definitely been going wrong.
Â
FWIW I think that Clarry will be all Australian again, but whether it's in 2 years or 4 years I'm not sure. He needs to grow up and the jolt of a new club may help. Hogan is a great example of this. We need him based on current form, but he would not have been any help for the previous 4 years.Â

I too called for changes to game plan after last year, but trust that the coaches are in a better position than me to make a decision.
One analogy to consider is those who look to improve their golf handicap by changing their swing. Generally at first you hit the odd better shot but are more inconsistent and therefore your handicap struggles. The strong temptation is to revert to what you know. Golf coach will always say stick with the change as those that do, more often than not, end up a better player with a better handicap.
Different sport I know, but I think many are talking about reverting to the old way before we have actually nailed the changes given at no stage has Goodwin said we are playing the way we want to.

Sure is. A good recent example was (listening to ABC driving home last night) Kelli Underwood bringing it up in the context that she said Steven May was the only player not to run up to Melksham to congratulate him on that final goal.
Pathetic Kelli. Just a talking head . Malthouse to his credit batted away the insinuation.
They just make stuff up. I was at the game and May gave Melky a big hug at the end of the game.
