GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Demon Disciple replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
IF we were to gain a CP immediately following our first rounder, would you go to the draft and hope to all hell that Durdin falls, or try and lure a young KPD with some AFL experience? -
Unfortunately Spencer just signed a 2-year extension. However, if bringing in Grimley meant that Spencer would be off the list in 2 years time, i'd definitely do it. Could help out in both the forward line and ruck like Mitch would have been doing (obviously not as good as Mitch, but we wouldn't be giving him Mitch dollars, and could throw the spare cash at some other player's we need). Obviously not a very nice thought (i admit), but it's a brutal industry and Spencer has been on our list for too long and done next to nothing.

Tom McDonald is not a long-term solution to play as a KPD. The reason for this is because 1) his disposal is sh!thouse and 2) his decision making is even worse. People try and create excuses for him saying that he will improve with time and experience. However i disagree. To become a quality player (or even just a player you can rely on) they need to display at least some natural ability when it comes to skills and decision-making. McDonald has neither. When you are working with 0 you end up with 0. If a club can improve a player by 'X' %, 'X' % of zero is still zero. McDonald is more of a 3rd option (not tall) when it comes to getting the ball out of the back-line, in that he is neither the first or second choice to have the ball in hand. Luckily Dunn has come in this year and held up one of these positions. But we are still a player or tall KPD short without Frawley (i see Garland as a third tall defender). Should Frawley move on come end of year, it is imperative we bring in a quality tall defender by way of trade or the draft. That leaves the other early pick to bring in another young mid via the draft or trade period. Dream scenario would be bringing in one of Shiel or Coniglio with the compo pick, and Durdin falling through to our first rounder (but that's even more of as pipe dream than landing Roos). Long story short, i wouldn't be relying on McDonald to be the cornerstone of our defence.

Players to target at the end of the year
Demon Disciple replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, one of Shiel or Coniglio would help build our midfield. Though if Frawley were to leave and we get good compensation, i'd rather trade the pick for a ready KPP and draft a mid. Then again it depends on what KPP's would be left come our pick. Wouldn't be too bad if Durdin was available at our pick and we were able to also bring in Shiel/Coniglio. -
It's a virtual 3 though BBO. Still next year to run on his contract plus another 2. Heck, i'd take that over the other possibility.

Won't pop the cork until it is officially announced, but must admit, heart-rate spiked when reading that snippet!

Ok, so Roos has come out wanting some more classy midfielders. Looking at this upcoming draft, the 2 mids making the biggest noise would be Brayshaw from the hype and Petracca on his hot form. Classy isn't the first thought that comes to mind with these 2. Grunt and Power respectively. So it seems like yet again, we will try and bring in an up and coming mid with our first rounder as the bait. It worked the first time, let's load up again!

Post Match Discussion - Never in doubt

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2014-06-17/roos-on-afl-360 0 - 55 seconds. That's what it's all about. Couldn't and still can't wipe the smile from my face whenever i watch it. The unity that this club now has thanks to our CEO, Pres and Coach is fantastic. And by the looks of the players' reaction and joy with one another, they're playing for each other and have pride in the jumper................... At Last!!!!!!! -
Players to target at the end of the year
Demon Disciple replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wouldn't mind trying to lure Moore back to Victoria. A good size with some pace and skill, but not afraid of the rough stuff. -
I'd still settle for a heart-attack, if it means we win.

afl replay takes 12 hours after the game to be accessible.

MFCSS Machsy............. Duh.

Would gladly give up our first rounder for Coniglio if he wanted to come over to us. Whilst not as big and bollocking as Brayshaw, he has better skills, is quicker and can also play both inside and outside (Brayshaw is more your contested beast similar to a Wines). Compared to Petracca, Coniglio would be silkier, not as effective up forward, but ahead when it comes to the midifeld (though Petracca seems to be making a good fist of that too). Coniglio would provide us with greater flexibility from a pure midfield point of view (both inside and outside the contest) and would add another string to our midfield make-up.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
Demon Disciple replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, his younger brother. -
If that was the trade, we'd be big winners, Dockers would be big losers and GWS would be about equal. We'd have to add more for that to work.
-
Agree that Coniglio is not a pure inside mid. He can play outside just as well as inside. Capable of gaining clearances, but also has very good disposal and is quick. Definitely wouldn't hurt having him line up in our midfield.
-
Not doubting you at all Mousey, but how would this happen? I thought he signed a contract extension at the end of last year with a bunch of others, tying him to the club for at least 3 more years. Doubt GWS will part with him.
-
I'm sorry Song, but that's clearly in the back.
-
I'd only offer up a late pick for him (one that we probably wouldn't use anyway), this is assuming we lose Frawley as i wouldn't want to weaken any compensation we would get. I'd give him a one-year contract and then see in a year's time if he is good to go around for another year. He could always be offered a coaching position afterwards, as he had long been coached by Roosy.
-
The hell we should. Would love to get Brayshaw into our club. Unless they offered something ridiculous like 13 + Goldstein.

Having both Neade and JKH in the same forward line would be exciting to see. Whenever we get the ball inside 50, we do seem to struggle to keep it in there for long enough periods. I am often saying "where are our crumbers" at games of footy. As JVFP has pointed out, we do have several options ahead of him, however, Kent should be used as a flanker who goes up into the midfield, Evans i don't even know if he is contracted for next year (and if he will be around next year), JKH is our only small forward and Hunt, whilst he hasn't played a game, i think is being groomed as a half-back flanker, where his pace will be used to break the lines and get it quickly in to our forwards. If we had both JKH and Neade, then one would be able to go up the ground and contest the loose balls, whilst the other could stay home in the forward 50 (along with a tall). I wouldn't give up more than a 3rd rounder for him, which Port would laugh at. Our second rounder will be tied up with Billy Stretch.
-
We did with Scott Selwood. Wouldn't mind him.
-
I understand that Roosy is trying to the develop the team with a defence first mindset, but there does come a time when you have to realise, that you need to kick goals to win games and equally, have a forward line to kick it too. Whats more, have good delivery into the forward line. But let's not get carried away with the how to's. But 3 goals ain't gonna win you a lot of games.
-
Sure Malthouse having a weekly sook is irritating, but what pi$$e$ me off more, is the bloody Scott twins. Whenever they think their teams have been aggrieved, they always swing around in their chairs, arms raised and mouths wide open. Worthy of academy awards those two.
-
Left footers, imo, are generally a better kick than right footers. However, they definitely kicky more around their body/kick with an arc, and are nowhere near as good on their opposite foot than right footers are on theirs.
