  1. Spot on old dee. Fantastic way to round out a very pleasing year.
  2. Nup, not remotely sad. Didn't even feel happy for them, I felt happy *with* them. I felt a part of that victory like I never have for a team outside Melbourne. Great day, great game. And for me, it was the first sign I've seen in a long time that you don't need to be a power club to win the flag. It brought the dream to life for me.
  3. That's my view too. It wouldn't surprise me if the Dogs are flat and disappointing today, the hype has been through the roof. Swans are old hands at this. Would be happy to be wrong.
  4. Mitch Thorp or Joel Selwood? Xavier Ellis or Josh Kennedy or Scott Pendlebury? Beau Dowler or Nathan Jones? Every club misses players. Get over it.
  5. GWS hardly looked out of condition. Their game against WB was one of the most intense games I've ever seen.
  6. "I don't want to play Essendon on Friday night in front of 70k because we will lose." Do you guys see how sad this sounds? Bring it the eff on, Essendon.
  7. What's the future for the club if the VFL did not revoke its licence? It has been hopelessly uncompetitive for years now. If I was at VFL HQ I'd want to be presented with a vision and a solid plan on how it was going to be achieved before reconsidering. A petition won't cut it. I admire the passion in this thread, but I can't see how it does either the club or the VFL, which is the state's second tier competition, to have an easybeat side parked on the bottom of the ladder. If the club is still viable, let it register in a lower competition where it might have some hope of success. If not, let nature run its course.
  8. I had a vague recollection that he'd played for the MFC, wasn't sure if it was right though. 42 MFC games, 31 Footscray games and 45 St. Kilda games - a true journeyman. On a totally unrelated note, how come whenever you type a footballer's name in to Google, the first suggested search is always "xxx yyy wife"? It's just sad that that search is so common that it's the first suggestion. So, so many losers out there.
  9. Cue the Remy Jones thread. I'm sure the Billy Stretch thread had started by now and Jack Viney had already signed. Congrats Jones family!
  10. Regarding the now deleted comments; playing at AFL level, or even having any talent whatsoever is not a prerequisite for posting football related opinions on Demonland. The day it becomes a prerequisite is the day I hand the keys in since I'm in the "none whatsoever" category.
  11. 5 games, out of a possible 8. I'd put that in the realms of "by a lot" when the forecast was zero. He was closer to playing every game than never playing again. It was clearly a dumb call at the time and has proven to be so in time. Moot point now, obviously.
  12. In the box instead of on the bench, then. Otherwise, black box position as before, as far as us mugs go
  13. I've got to admit I've got no idea how these people fill their days at work anyway. All I know is that it matters that our players are properly developed and we've added a highly rated younger resource; since Macca is still on board I'll just assume the new structure is an improvement on what we had and be happy.
  14. Yes, it means no compensation. Wouldn't have got any anyway most likely as I doubt Grimes will be on a very big contract if he gets picked up - very long shot anyway IMO. Unless you were worried about compo for Terls :-)
  15. Surprised to see Jones go in the first pass. I thought he had a case for one more season, and probably would have played games next season, but I guess that's (rightly) not where the bar is set. No surprises with Grimes, but it still gives me a stab of grief now that it's official. A player who gave his all the MFC during the toughest of times. I hope the note he leaves on is not too sour and he can continue to be a Melbourne man after footy. Thanks to all three for their contributions.
  16. I get the logic and the love, but was just amused by "shocked". I wouldn't be at all shocked, players like this, especially at his age, are overlooked *all the time*. Personally I'll be surprised if he is drafted - as a general pattern, clubs won't use a place on their list on undersized, most goal output forwards.
  17. Nah me either, but if I had the lotto numbers in advance as you seem to, I'd consider starting :-p
  18. Dangerfield can't not win, tore us a new one in round 23 and surely will get 3 for that.
  19. HawthornCRioli1voteMelbourneMGawn2votesMelbourneJViney3votes Lucky I didn't blink. Might as well wait for the Port game now to see the last of our vote getters.
  20. Trying to stay awake to see our votes against Hawthorn. God, this is *so* boring.
  21. What were the attendances like for Footscray games during the year compared to Casey?
  22. lol. jcb at the time had a massive thing for first generation Australian players. Daw, Temel, Jong. Years later, you can bump one of the threads and it makes him look like a visionary. I remember at the time reading this thread, laughing, thinking "here we go again". I suppose he was bound to get one right eventually.
