What were you hoping to achieve by threatening to cancel your own membership to the senior coach?

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Nasher replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought for a minute you were quoting Prendergast. I was wondering what alternate reality I woke up in. -
Have they? I can't recall Simon Goodwin's Demons ever being beaten by Carlton. Blank slate as far as I'm concerned. Last week proved that.

I've always maintained that as supporters, we should be welcome to get as carried away as we please. It's our own emotions we are putting on the line. You are right that the team must not think this way, and I really doubt they are.

Gee 15:20 is a balls starting time. Feels like I'm sitting around all day waiting for it.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Nasher replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Unfortunately "lucked out" has become one of those expressions to have an antonymous double meaning. I died a little on the inside recently when Merriam-Webster added a definition of 'literally' to mean the same as 'figuratively'. -

Who would barrack for them? Most people in Tassie are already well and truly affiliated with an AFL team (reckon I'd drop Melbourne?). This has always been the problem with a Tassie team - all it does is dilute the existing clubs supporter base. At least with the expansion clubs, there is some chance of game growth, even if it looks remote and is slow going.

Loving this.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised

Yes, the strike rate gets progressively worse as you go down the draft. That has nothing to do with what I'm saying though, my argument was against the assertion that you need a special player with your top 5 pick (implication being that you should expect one) - history shows it doesn't work like that. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised

A top 5 draft pick improves your chances of getting a star by much less than you'd think. History is absolutely littered with top 5 draft picks that aren't stars. You *hope* you get one, but it's just as much pot luck as any other position in the draft. -
Funniest thing ever after that campaign was after they got annihilated, someone doing a photoshop with a bunch of downcast Carlton players with the caption, "they knew we were coming". Didn't they also have "can you smell what the Blues are cooking?" Another one open to a spectacular backfire. Someone in the Carlton marketing group was working overtime in the late 00s.

Was never in doubt IMO. Slotted straight in.

Can understand Harmes ahead of Kent. Kent too similar to Hannan and Neal-Bullen for mine. Harmes is more "midfieldish" - is also tough, does the team stuff and can mark when on song. Kent may also be short of a run. Understand the argument that Kent is far classier, and it's true, it's just a question of the team mix for mine. I expect once Kent is back in he won't come back out again, and although the same can't be said for Harmes, it doesn't mean it's not the right choice for the short term.

Please. I'm trying hard to repress those memories - although I'd say they did okay under the circumstances.

Exactly. I'm the opposite of worried if they select all those talls. Nobody would ever have been worried if we'd picked a tall forward line of Watts, Fitzy and Paul Johnson (not sure they were all on the list at the same time but you get my drift). I reckon the danger of them playing tall is way overstated. Hunt and co are going to have an absolute field day.

Gotta love the BoM - possible rainfall: 0 mm, chance of any rain: 20%.

A win by 100 points should do.

Harmes, Kent and Tyson were the three mentioned by Plapp from the VFL game - which Bugg didn't play. Probably just an oversight based on that. I agree with rjay that it will probably be Bugg and Tyson.

I've always wondered why we have to do that. Why force us to name players we have no intention of playing? It's weird. Don't understand why the AFL don't just allow the clubs playing on the Sunday to name 22-25 players and leave the clubs to decide how to use that.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
Nasher replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watts 2009, McDonald 2011. -
Fair enough - probably a crud comparison in hindsight. I suppose my point is that it appears to be a regular feature in his game - most players would have done that about zero times in their careers.
-
I asked him and he didn't know either.

The Weideman running goal also featured a pretty handy one handed collect off the ground and handball to Petracca, not too dissimilar to the one in the Isaac Smith clip, though not under as much pressure. I wonder if he's got really big hands - seems like a very difficult thing to do at pace.

What does that even mean?
