Blues win race for Fremantle ruckman

"DESPITE not playing finals football for seven years, Carlton yesterday scooped its rivals again, with young Docker Robert Warnock nominating the Blues as his new club of choice.

Melbourne and Richmond are likely to miss out on Warnock after the 21-year-old's manager, Colin Young, yesterday informed Carlton general manager of football operations Steven Icke that his client had chosen the Blues. "

Brilliant. Looks like we lost another one to Carlton. How the [censored] are they fitting this in their cap?

Either way job well done Melbourne. We hold zero respect.

  2. I made a post about how disappointed I was with him all the way back in July. I doubt much has changed so I'll just re-post it.

Jones is really struggling with the tags this year. No doubt about it. He's actually been the most disappointing player in the team this IMO. But there are reasons for this.

One, I had very high expectations of him leading into this season because I love the way he goes about his footy.

And two, he has no Brock, no Junior, no Moloney around him. Green is playing along the HB line, and Bruce is thrown where ever he is needed. Therefore Jones has had no support in the midfield, as he is the only one constantly there. There's no consistency with players who play there. They're being brought in for a few matches then dropped or injured. All the top teams, their midfields play together for years and gel. We dont have that (yet), and Jones is the only one who's constantly there. So I can forgive him as he is a young player being forced to shoulder a responsibility and load that is far greater than he should.

With more support from players around him in the future, and added experience and maturity, I expect he will overcome the tagging situation that's been forced on him at times this year. But right now, he is struggling. 4 possessions in a full game of football from a midfielder is pathetic, no matter how hard the tag.

My criticism of him is this. And people will probably disagree here. But I dont think he gets enough cheap uncontested kicks. When I say that I dont mean sitting round chipping it back and forth in the back pocket. I mean that he doesnt present an option around the ground or find space. He just kind of heads to where he thinks the next contest will be and hope theres a pack he can smash into. Jones has only ever got over 25 disposals 3 times in his career. He needs to get more ball around the ground like Brock does. While he goes in hard, he also works into space around the ground and helps move us forward (with his very underrated kicking skills). Jones gets all his disposals are under pressure, and thus get butchered alot as either to noone or floaters. When he actually has a little time and space he isnt as bad a kick as he appears. He's delivered a few nice passes inside 50 this year. Posters here may say "well thats not his role", and theyre right, but IMO Jonesy needs to do that to take his game to the next level as a player.

  3. I'd be loathe to put him in the forward line in any more than a pinch hitting role given how good he has been as a key defender this year. Find a position that works and leave him there.

Correct. He has shown he has what it takes to be a great defender. He reads the play well, has good speed, doesnt give away many free kicks, and his rebound kicking skills are very good. Leave him down back to settle.

  4. Carrolls contracted next year, so he will be around. No other club would take him now after all the off-field fiascos he has had.

Holland thank god has retired. I know he always tried hard, but he was very limited. About the only good thing to come out of his career at MFC for me personally was a laugh. Thats all Dutchy was good for. I mean when you go to a match and see a guy take a strong mark, then miss a set shot from about 5 metres out directly infront, all you can do is laugh!

  5. Also, Mortons kicking isnt an issue. It was elite at under-age level. And I mean elite. He would regularly ram the ball down the throat of leading players 55 metres away.

What happened this year is that he put on roughly 10kgs in 6-8 months, and so his body has changed and he is still getting used to it. Coupled with being a guy who turned 18 earlier this year and is skinny due to his height and age, playing his first year at AFL senior level against men who have been playing for years and have harder bodies.....well I dont have to explain that his confidence wouldnt be the greatest yet. Especially playing in a team getting routinely smashed. Also moving interstate and adjusting to an entirely new life will take time to get used to.

I know him through a friend though, and he is settling in fine and is enjoying Melbourne after initially finding it to be a very busy place!

He will be fine with time, and definitely one of the best players from his draft. We have an exciting young midfielder on our hands >:D

  6. I agree with you Freak that Lisle should be our aim with pick 17 or 19. Dont think we'd need/want him to play midfield, but I guess it's a possibility as a last resort.

We'd want him up forward where we lack at the moment.

    If we could pick up

    Pick #1 - J. Watts

    Pick #17 - D. Zaharakis/S. Blease

    Pick #19 - J. Lisle

    PSD#1 or possibly Pick 35 - R. Warnock

We will have done very well.

We will have picked up a young ruckman who has already had a few years to develop abit, an extremely talented and athletic tall, a midfielder with good pace and skills, and another good tall who has played both forward and back, but we'd want him up forward.

  7. Did you not just read what I wrote?

If not, here it is again to try and ram it home!

Let me put this in perspective for everyone with a few facts that should end this thread any ridiculous notion we should bother with this dud.

Boyle will be 25 in Rnd 1 2009.

He is a (soon to be) 25 year old who has only managed 31 games since he was drafted in 2002.

He has managed 39 goals that 6 years. In a Hawthorn side that until recently was very weak, he still couldnt crack a game.

He has managed 6 games this year for 6 goals in a Hawthorn team, that while Buddy conscious, sends the ball forward more than anyone (bar Geelong).

He averages less than 1 tackle a game. In a team where we desperately need defensive pressure, he has none.

So in essence, he is a Brad Miller, minus aggression, a shred of talent, somehow kicks LESS goals (never thought it were possible) and has the work ethic of a Mexican janitor.

If anything, I'd trade a pick NOT to have him on our list. He is a dud.

I hope you all realise how stupid it is to even bother talking about this guy. Close this thread now plz k thx bai

Ill put this in language some of you may understand.

    TIM BOYLE IS A F*CKING DUD!!!one!

Also Nudge, he is not 198cm tall, he is 193cm and 95kg.

So he is smaller than Brad Miller, who is 194 and 96kg.

He is smaller than Brad Miller, 6 months younger and has kicked half as many goals. If that doesnt spell DUD I dont know what does and I may as well not bother posting on this site anymore, because if people here want this guy in their team, then we're another 44+ years away from a flag.

[censored] I hate the trade/draft time, and it hasnt even started yet!

  8. Like I said earlier in the year, I would look at Prismall assuming the price wasnt too high. Prismalls strength is his kicking skills, something we lack badly at this time. He is young at 21, and would slot straight into our midfield for the next 8-9 years probably.

He will never be a superstar, but he will be/is a good footballer.

He will not be cheap though. We would likely have to give up pick 19, or pick 35+ a player.

  10. Because we're a basketcase, who are millions of dollars in debt, and are on the bottom of the ladder. Harsh but true. It's likely not going to be an easy or financially fruitful job, so most people will look elsewhere. They unfortunately do not share the same passion for the club that all of you folk and myself do.

  11. He's not going to play this year guys, and nor should he. He has barely even got a run on in the Sandy Seniors! Picked up 8 disposals there on the weekend and ran out his 2nd full game. While it's good he is getting past his injuries and making it through games, he is still learning and getting up to speed. No need to throw him to the wolves for a pointless Rnd 22 match. Expect to see him next year after a pre-season and abit more hunger for a senior game have set in.

  12. unfortunately for him Harvey's milkshakes don't bring all the boys to his yard

Funniest thing I've read on here in a while, and that's saying something considering some of the lolworthy trade suggestions and rumors etc.

    Good work Jaded

    DRAINAGE!

Drainage, Harvey, you boy. Drained dry, I’m so sorry.

Here: if you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake and I have a straw, there it is, that’s the straw, see, watch it! My straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake:

    I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!

    [slurps]

    I drink it up!

Also lol. Watched that the other night and it wasnt too shabby. That ending scene was :huh:

  13. Calls for Sylvia to be dropped are pretty stupid. I admit Im not his biggest fan. He has frustrated me (and most of you) more than anyone on our list, but he has been one of our best recently, and you can see him trying to push himself.

If we had a good list up and running then dropping him could be an option, but right now there is no use dropping him. He needs to get AFL gametime into those leg and that tank, and he is playing on some of the best recently being our main forward option. Playing on guys like Dustin Fletcher or Tom Harley is no easy task, and he has done so pretty admirably IMO.

If we were to drop him, who for? Bode? Bode is about as useful as a wet pen15 in a paper bag. Grimes? Playing his first Sandy Seniors game this week, so thats a definite no. Newton? Possibly, but then again he has the same perceived problem as Sylvia (attitude), minus any form of output. Sylvia at least kicks some goals most weeks, Juice doesnt do sh*t.

Sylvia wont get dropped, and nor should he.

Based off last night you'd drop the whole team bar Whelan if you could. Was a shocker. We just have to stick out these tough times and keep playing the kids (talented ones, not hacks like Bode & Weetra etc).

  14. he put on 4.5 kilos of muscle mass last pre season and intends to do more this pre season

i know his host family and he is on a diet and special weights program

    patients is the key people

Correct. I've become friends with Cale this year through a friend, and had abit of a chat with him last night actually. He's put on around 5.5kgs since he came to the club over summer he says. That's a decent amount I think. He is always going to be skinnyish, I doubt he'll break 90kgs for a long time if ever, but he doesnt have to. He is a skilled agile midfielder with a massive tank and good skills. Give him a few years and his body size will enable him to flourish when push comes to shove, and he'll take advantage of his skills, tank, and smarts.

People here have to realise, he is 18. He only turned 18 earlier this year. When I first met him back in Feb he was 17, so understandably he's still immature. He was telling me how weird it was to not have homework and be living in such a busy town. He's a quite boy by nature, and moving interstate to live with a host family at 17-18 is a big move. He will take time to adjust, but it will be worth it. He seems to be enjoying the new life and is pretty passionate about MFC. He knows me and my girlfriend are dees, and he keeps demanding we make it along to games and bring as many dee friends as we can find.

Also good to hear from him how tough Bailey is. "Bails" says he is going along nicely, but needs to work harder and be more vocal. Cale also said it's a week to week thing and the second you have a match where you dont shine or work hard enough in Bails eyes, you're back to Sandy to work on your game.

It's all very encouraging. I really dislike seeing all these negative threads this year :(

  15. Pretty good debut from Maric today. Was disappointed not to see him have some shots on goal, but he still played reasonably well and looked very calm for a small kid in his first game. Those skills of his that were talked up are definitely there, and lord knows we need some skill in this team!
