Eagles got smahed, but noone really cares. Found a backup for the backup in Sudfeld. I feel like he'll be pressed into service. Actually looks like he has the goods to be a good backup, if not a superstar starter. First team D did their thing then went off. Not much to see here really... Probably the biggest thing we saw was the enormous 81 yard punt by an ex-demon, Cam Johnston, who looks like he'll be the punter for the season.

Good boy Weed. 7 point lead.

Oskar Baker out for 6 weeks with Hamstring
Was looking forward to seeing him play a game this year, especially with our outs and his pretty good form. TBH though, given it's 3 big-time opposition teams now, GC was probably his last chance anyway. Next year Oscar.

Losing Jack Viney
I was thinking about this the other day when I was watching Clarry. Has anyone else noticed that our contested ball techniques have changed over the time he's been at the club? One thing Clarry does incredibly well is draw an opposition player in until the last second, and THEN dispose. I dunno if Jack (or anyone else in the midfield) did this all that much previously. It's a genius thing, as it allows your receiving players more opportunity to assess a situation, and it usually nullifies at least one oppo player who's chosen to commit to a tackle or smother.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 20
I've been debating this for a while with mates since Watts left. There are plenty that are on the same tier IMO. Tracca's colours have been lowered lately because of his goal kicking accuracy. But he is prodigious. Probably our longest kick. Hogan, according to my brother, is the team's best field kick. I think that's a little much, but it's not a completely ridiculous assertion. He made the point a while back and was laughed at, and like any good footy mates, we take every opportunity to point out his mistake. Thing is, if you take a close look, Jesse's field kicking to a target inside fifty... when he gets it... is pretty amazing. Oliver was my version of the above. I rate him as high as anyone in the list, and this is based on what I saw in year one. Everyone else is very much late to this party. He is as prodigious as anyone on the list, just doesn't have the distance/penetration. Apart from the fact he's the best midfielder of my lifetime in red and blue, and the best since Robbie, he is the definition of a "beautiful" footballer. Makes AFL look like a world sport. Salem I love, but I love him more with space and time. Has touch and delicacy to drop it over a contest into the lap of someone, which is what separates him from other HBs. Lewis very much a Salem-like kick. Probably another 5-10 metres in terms of distance though. Vince is a booming kick. Probably not as deft as he was 5 years ago, but still can kick the leather off the thing. Hibberd I trust. Good distance, good accuracy. Just a reliable wonderful disposer both in decisions and execution. Melksham has blown me away this year. Basically the perfect inside fifty touch. If we could find a way to Stevie Johnson his career, we'd be frightening. Fritsch is a VERY good kick. Could be a great kick in time. Garlett can turn it on. Snapping and dribblers a strength obviously. Wastes it as often as he uses it well. There's a few pothers. Pedo is a glorious long kick for a big man. Picture perfect. Kent is a long kick, but not sure he has shape. Other than that, noone on the list inspires much confidence.

VALE JARROD LYLE
My sentiments exactly. I don't care for Maher, or the new SEN... But there's no resisting what you heard this arvo. Brutal, the lot of it, and Maher has my respect for confronting what seemed pretty difficult for him. You can't help but tip your hat.

VALE JARROD LYLE
Gee whiz did anyone listen to SEN just now, replaying the Lyle-Radar interview from a few days ago? Powerful stuff. Well done Andy.

Tom McDonald?
The ironing board that happens to be really really good at footy. Missed 5 games and is somehow only 13 goals off the coleman. That is unbelievable and should it continue, he has to be in the AA squad and for goals per game would be in the side. That is absolutely extraordinary in modern footy, the trajectory of this guy.

Changes v Gold Coast Suns
I'm starting to really warm to Spargo. A player that small is going to have to do incredible things with the 15 touches he gets in order to have a positive influence... and so far in his debut season he's doing exactly that. Always makes good choices and forces contests when he seems out of position. Having said that, Hannan is similar with a bit more marking power, so I wouldn't be massively surprised or disappointed to see him included. Smith is an athlete, not a disposer. I suspect it's not even his disposal that would have Goody nervous.... but moreso the disposal skills of the entire defence. If you have Salem, Hibberd, Jetta, Lewis and Vince kicking out from defence you're on ok shape. But with Smith and Frost in there, and Hunt going forward, that has got to raise Goody's anxiety levels massively. I daresay in a final, which is almost what we're playing in these last few weeks, oppo teams would love to see Frost and Smith with the ball. Injuries may dictate Smith plays again, but I think he's first dropped when Hibbo comes back.

Changes v Gold Coast Suns
JKH stays in. Played a good game. Some people on here are blind, fair dinkum. Smith is a bit more in the gun. Loved his endeavour and physicality, but his disposal might mean he loses his spot. Hunt is no chance to come in. Wasn't even in the 22 before he got hurt, and wasn't knocking the door down in the VFL before then. Demonland is slowly getting more daft.
