Funny... those who have made it large in the world, whether it be in sport , business or just good ol money will all tell you a common idea. You need to imagine yourself in the role, on the dias as a success etc. You have to run the race in your mind and do it winning. Some paraphrase this in a fashion as Fake it before you Make it. This , to me, is what Bartlett is doing. He's fore-visioning a Melbourne in its new and rightful place as top of the heap in the town it takes its name from. A building is created from an idea, then a brief, a conceptual impression, drawings , plans etc. It doesnt happen by any number of construction workers banging away at some element of building in the hope that some edifice will grow from their labours its about workign to a vision. I see nothing wrong with the club daring to create something. From ideas doth creations come, not the other way around.

I think the simple explanation of the reasoning Bartlett offers is that for far too long we have loitered around like some lost hobo looking for a handout, all the whiles the very town we seek to embrace carries on regardless. Its not for the town to see reason to paint itself Red and Blue its up to us to go and do it and proclaim it as our domain with all others imposters. It requires a mindset change, a shift in scale of belief.

It borders on the ridiculous how much reporting comes from a skewed perspective. So much is written almost supposing that Essendon are some sort of victim in all this as opposed the instigator and guilty. Are we supposed to feel compassion for them ? I certainly don't. Many might be aware I am surrounded by Filth. The Wife, 3 very good mates, 90% of wifes family.., and its typically Mic huge lol are all demented. Going into tomorrows game something has changed. There's no forward pity. No derision. Some ( the decent ones ) have wished us well and look forward to a good game ( for a change lol ) Some seem genuinely concerned. As far as rucks go , I have a simple mould in mind.Well, sort of. I only require the ruck to contest to not allow the opposition to hold sway. He DOESNT have to actually win the contest just negate it and allow our crumbers a ball to contest and clear. Id much prefer he then had the "follower' game traits of say White and Stynes. Who could mark and kick to effect. They then ADD to the ability of the team as a whole and aid play. A lumbering one trick pony type ruck is for mine a useless player.

Whilst I dont argue that an A grader is dead handy...they are bloody rare though. if you develop one. all well and good ( ne brilliant ) but chances are a formidable 'clearance crew" is a buildable thing , in lieu.. Some good teams over the years have won cups with a 'good' ( not A ruck ) but a hard at it clearing group of mids. Id really like to see us go this route. Thats not to say you dont try to create a good bean stalker, just dont rely on it.

Something I often ponder about the ruck. Many teams over the journey get by with only an adequate ruck. What they have are good mids and ( in dinosaur parlance ) rovers ( possibly today's lingo...sharks ) wholl sweep up the ball , even playing to the strengths of opposition rucks. Yes some teams have had bloody wonderful rucks.. Cox, Sandilands, even us with White ( til the game cheated us ) But it makes me wonder if having an A grade ruck is worth the fuss, or just the ability to clear the ball. I seriously think the latter. Others mightn't

Despite the Leagues pandering and the clubs continued stance the whole fabric of club-player relationship is about to be tested at its very core. What is said now by the affected parties will eventually be meaningless as self interests come to the fore.
