  1. Martin and Garland may play forward.. a fit Goose would eat Rivers for ability to take a forward.. frawley and Warnock are good. Martin is even pinch hittin gin ruck..his future may not be down back at all. We'll wait and see if Garland comes up to it this year A back line up including Warnock Frawley and Maguire wouldnt be too shabby. I wont a top team...not a team of my 'fav" players.. who cares whose out there in Red and Blue as long as they respect the jumper and give their all. its not a mates party !! its AFL footy
  2. Hardly a priority..and where have I said that ? But we are getting press..and for the most part its quite favourable. With upcoming drafts there will be more focus and that will carry through to next year. We are gaining credibility as an interest to follow. Most people who follow footy know we are better than a wooden spoon..ffs why all the cry re tanking if not for the expectations of better results etc. With shackles off and new blood coming in we will be quite interesting to watch...its ok to differ
  3. we have enough backs ?? really .. not quite on that page with you guys. Not sure how we would actually get him but if fitness proved he might be worth an interested look at.
  4. fair comments TU..Id think we'll be far more interesting that Carlton now... Watching Adelaide is right up there with getting teeth pulled and I think the Bombers will come off the pace a bit next year. Id easily place us at least in the middle of the pack and thats a far cry from last
  5. look at that... youve seen the light !! hehehe :D I can understand many suggesting he hasnt earnt his stripes..or legitimacy in their eyes to being a star.. but again I suggest its a confusion of nouns. He hasnt become a champ yet, no argument but many people go along to the footy with a much less critical view of the game. They have their favourites etc and amongst a great deal of the footy watching population Jurrah has quickly entrenched himself as one to watch, a excitement machine... He is..a star of the game. I know Collingwood supporters who grimace at his name ( beautifulisnt it ) I know other club supporters who salivate at the idea of getting a Jurrah -like in this coming draft. Stars have X factor.. many champs dont..Jurrah does..
  6. how is one not the other ?? a star is a star and thats the whole point many are missing. is he a seasoned AFL champ ? Nope..not yet. is he a star?? bucket loads !!
  7. I think for the most part you have to discount what we've seen in terms of positions played, especially in the 'experimental' phase and expect a much more normal approach to set ups. Watts may well play CHF instead of FF.. they may put Frosty in the square to attract a more seasoned defender etc. Probably Bate a better fit there then. I cant see us coming out playing strange footy any more
  8. seems many just cant fathom any difference between the connotations between accomplished champion and star, or star quality. They are different. One can be the other, but you dont need to be a seasoned veteran to be a star. It CAN be there from day one. If you dont subscribe to this...then thats fair enough..some of us do.
  9. strangely probably the most accurate of all observations so far...
  10. you base that on ?? curious /...seriously...inside knowledge ? Watts will be out there...why wouldnt he be.. he needs to get games in him and strangely enough theres only one way to do that !! Maric will play mainly in the pocket til his engine builds.. he was only played around the ground as it suited our experimental policies of the time and it didnt hurt him any to learn some more craft. he is an ideal forward goal sneak. Martin has already shown he has some ability up the sharp end... why not build on it ? Petterd is quite handy on flanks..gets lost in pockets.. Wonna is not a mid..nor a back...only leaves the front really . Miller can play a lead up forward... it was just that for a long while he had no one really to kick it to...now he has
  11. Well putting it simply..Cuthbertson only played 5..Jurrah almost single seasonally doubles this.. and we know he will be there for some time. And with Darren it was all but voila !! presto..here today gone tomorrow...who was that masked man etc. No one really expected anything of him ...he surpassed everything for a moment..but only a moment.. Pity really. Jurrah we know there is much yet to be seen and we try to contain our enthusiasm for what will unfold. Tell ya what...go ask this same question on the other 15 forums (well all that have one ) and see what all other footy folk think of Jurrah...it will be a resounding YES
  12. I think even now there's a quiet chorus of understanding out there that Melbourne is well primed to take on the next decade. Were we a tad sneaky..well ...YES. Does that show method and determination above the ordinary ? Id suggest yes also. This translates in many people's view as a team that knows where its at, who it is and where its going. That combination will be entertaining to watch. That's what TV wants.. good watchable footy to bolster its ratings. I think the AFL fully expects us to rise..and rise forcefully
  13. I think as Iva is indicating...with Cuthbertson most suspected it was that .a day out...punching above your weigfht etc.. and most waiting for the fall...and voila !! Jurrah..we know he's only starting out and hasnt even really got out of 1st gear yet. Chalk and Cheese
  14. I still dont get ho any consider green to be a FF or such ...hes easily out sized by a decent backman ( and was when trialed in this manner ) .. Hes a good 6 inch too short for a KPP. he could have played second fiddle but with the likes of Jurrah to back up Watts then you need another stonger bodied type in there. Brad could play as a HFF but what a waste of talent. Rotating him through there a a resting forward of sorts might warrant a go. As a KPP you need the likes of Bate, Martin ( still raw yes ) and dare I say it Miller. Frosty can only play as a lead up CHF and this might well work with decent talent closer to goal something thing like Wonna Watts Maric Jurrah Miller Petterd if not Miller then Bate or Martin
  15. No...not easily satisfied at all. Robbo had some gifts...mainly aerial but certainly not a rounded game. He lack any defense really . sort of..if at first he didnt grab it ...then its all over red rover. Luckily for us and him many stuck Throw all your stats out and open your eyes. The sheer manner in which he ( jurrah ) can combine 2-3 actions in a seamless display is rungs above most players.. His inane ability to read the flight of the ball and just effortlessly ( seemingly ) pluck it out of the air. The ability to one moment be 25m off the ball and the next invading some backman's face almost willing him to offer up the ball. None of this can be noted as a stat. Some people can just walk on a stage and own it.. It might be their first performance or 1000th...it matters not..its theirs; they stand out. Thats exactly what Jurrah did and does, hes a cut above. Not just my opinion but that of a great many and a lot of the football writing brigade. if its not yours...fine... as Im sure fellas like Rude Boy and the such who know him well are having a quiet chortle to themselves.
  16. Thereis sense as yo suggest in grooming the public towards the teams that will ( crossed-fingers ) provide spectacles and entertainment. Yes, hopefully we are one of them
  17. Be happy to take that any day. So much of th epillis wasted after hard work with poor disposal. Am interested to see how he progresses ( should he ) in 010
  18. I disagree. what many are talking of is accomplishments. i.e you can not be this or that without first having done X and Y . Being a Star is quite separate but can be parallel. A Star is someone who by their very presence and the qualities they bring to bear on a game set themselves apart and above the general masses. Jurrah does this. He stars in games..he is a a genuine star of the game. His luminosity may get brighter still,,but he already shines.
  19. meanwhile returning to the thread's topic I spied this little piece : "The draw will reward the elite teams with plenty of free-to-air games, but Melbourne has successfully lobbied for fewer Demons games on Foxtel. the Demons had just 10 games on Seven or Ten." source Monday on the menu (HS) seems some lobbying by the club has paid off well done
  20. then dont bother !! some of us obviously think diferently to others including yourself... who'd ever think that possible on a forum But possibly if you have nothing to add...do just that !!
  21. lets not confuse "star"..with necessarily "accomplished " he's already a "Rising ' Star he's already been the subject of more than a couple of segments on telly Liam Jurrah MFC (on ABC ) O'Loughlin thinks he's a star O'loughlin considers Jurrah a future star Was already a Star for Yuendumu Talking with others who folow other clubs...they see him as a star ( apparently we have few..lol ) Maybe the only issue here is some think he's already a star, others think he wil be.
  22. raw, has potential... wait & see
  23. Green isnt a forward
  24. So..to pose the devils advocacy, if those suggesting hes not a star yet, then he must be by the 'yet" a star in the making. If he's a star in the making( bysuch definition ) then he is already a star, just not quite so bright. A star is a star... whether YOU see its light is a factor of you ability to see it...not whether the light exists !!
  25. some extracts of meanings: *An artistic performer or athlete whose leading role or superior performance is acknowledged. *Outstanding or famous, especially in performing something: a star researcher; a star figure skater. *To present or feature (a performer) in a leading role. I reckon he might cover a bit of that ground
