Think we have more holes to fill than just a key forward spot these days.

No longer the missing jigsaw piece that many thought it was.

It's not the piece we've been missing.... lt was the picture

  2. Also... just being a capable forward isn't sufficient in guaranteeing hurt upon the scoreboard. It requires a well drilled, intelligent feed ( supply ) coming towards the sticks.

A gifted player can sometimes truly make a silk purse out of a sows ear but thats really hard yakka and far from reliable.

You need a system. Actually ...you need paths... that's plural !! You need options

Forward footy is about disassembling the ability of the opposition's defence to crowd and deny you your SPACE

Forward footy ( in a good team ) is never about ONE person. It's about choreography...about team-think.

There's a whole "book" on playing up front. Im not sure we've had it in our library for years tbh. I think Kingy has brought along his own copy.

Im looking forward (npi) to a much more dynamic and fluid forward arc.

  3. You either get this or you don't.

Forward craft is about SPACE .... height is quite secondary.

    It's space and position.

Quite simply the 'opposite' of how we've gone about it for (too many) years !!

It will be addressed.... I sense this now.

To be honest, I was misled by a dodgy stat about LSP published in the lead-up to the draft. Some reports had him at 170 cm tall, but he's apparently 182 cm, which is a huge difference! It makes you wonder how many others were misinformed like me.

The above is from a Shifter Sheehan article on the afl.com.au website (the figure was also published elsewhere).

Thanks Shifter.... " the...ummm.. package will be delivered shortly 👍😉 "

  5. What always amuses me is how many seem so certain about this lad's abilities or anothers potential as to be already underscoring selections as mistakes etc.

It's a raffle. Even with the best Intel.....its a raffle. What one team sees as a possible fit another sees as not.

Just look at past drafts... its a raffle. Some picks mature into the game... some hit tge ground running.... some fall over their feet and disappear into obscurity.

Very seldom do you get a ready to go player.

This is just this year's additions... a handful next year... the team morphs.

All recruitment can do is cast their runes based upon experience.

I'll lay London to a brick half the first 20 picks don't.... DO NOT have long illustrious careers. Like every year some will gradually evolve... some will take a season... some a couple...

I think too many have come to rely on the 'footy machine" that is Private Schools and needed comps all pumping out cardboard cut outs. How's that worked out for everyone ??? It's a mixed bag.

You possibly had a better chance picking a certainty 20 years ago.... ( imho )

Now, you are going to have to go left field occasionally and go with instinct/gut/intuition.

This Pickett could be anything or nothing. Reality is thats most 17-19 yo 'kids'

Nothing about a teenager is fully formed. Some have wiser heads... some have bigger shoulders... some are just on 'their' path.

I have no doubt there's the Kozzie factor in this selection. But JT .. ne the MFC aren't going to waste a pick on a whim, a flight of fantastical indulgence. They can see something. Will we ever ??

Thats the fun of the Circus...

I don't know... but I'm curious to see how this plays out.

    It's a raffle

Hibs leg was good but it's not what made him great.

He was all heart and grit. Hated losing a contest. Thats what we miss.

The unbridled ecstasy and joy Pig exhibited racing around with the Cup is indelibly stamped in my memory.

    Twas glorious..

Could we find another of such ilk..... id be ecstatic.

I have no idea whether our impending picks are good bad or meh... I do have a suspicion someone is going to throw a couple of spanners early.

King and Co have a game in mind. Im hoping JT etc understand the brief maybhave changed from 12 months ago.

Not expecting much in 26bfrom anyone drafted..... but I want them to push and incentivate those already encamped.

their dingley dump has no relation to our caulfield colosseum

hopefully 4 weeks til something is confirmed at the agm

personally my mfcss think it's going to be further caulfield cans kicked down the road...or at least recycled at the cans return chutes at the carpark

    Through to the keeper?

Word was we were looking to utilise Waverley until Caulfield come into existence.

    Hence my reference.

    You're welcome

All White has done here has come in with a Sandra Sully comment... so that all of a sudden makes him a genius in your eyes?

We have all watched it happen with our own eyes and screaming for change 4 years straight now.

I like Jeff.. but he didnt tell us anything ground breaking at all to be honest.

Im not saying he's a genius. And what he outlines for many of us is far from new. But he does give a fair description.

It does show what, you, I and others have been on about over the years. It always seemed just a handful of things needed reworking/ rethinking.

I mentioned in another thread we might be a surprise packet in 26.

    I hadn't seen this then..

Here Jeff lays it all out.

A lot of things are fixable...a lot. And the results might be interesting.

Kick one more goal a game....not a lot really... suddenly youve a 100% ..not great... but a difference. Kick 2 more goals a game ?? A very different season. Thats JUST 2 goals a game...

What White talks about is changing games (as result ) by 3/4/5 goals a game. And not by total reinvention , just by being less dogmatic , more intuitive and applying a bit more footy 101 common sense.

We've had the better part of 3 parts out of 4 or 5 of an ok game. The better elements will remain. The connect/assist component ought to change dramatically this coming season as we now have someone in charge who not only understands it but was very instrumental in it at a very successful club.

Im allowing for absolutely nothing really coming from anyone drafted this year...that output will come in due course. But with a handful of players either maturing or simply nit injured we ought to have a list capable of some decent footy.

Ive said it time and time again...and it was the impetus behing my wanting fresh leadership at the club...

New chef , with better recipe.... same ingenuity... very different result

I have us at 2 - 8 at Round 10, and wouldn't be entirely confident on either of those wins. This could be a season of pain coming, I reckon.

Ive just got a weird feeling we're going to be a surprise packet in 26.

Call me silly, call me mad , just not late for tea

Someone posted on Bigfooty that we have the 10th hardest fixture with respect to the quality of double up opponent.

Geelong have the hardest. St Kilda 13th. Port 17th.

Tbf... its arbitrary in a fashion. Is based on what was... not what is...or will be. So I'm not really sure of what value that kind of metric is. Only valid if every team remained the same.... which they won't.
