Back to more interesting matters, I see that bananas are now being added to various juices.

Have tasted a few and as expected they are great.

Since 2013 I have been chronicling the Demons preseason training through images and have a large archive of those images.

I'm spending a bit of time revisiting those years leading up to the flag in 2021.

2021 I had no original footage, so I had to get a bit inventive

    Enjoy.

Very much so... Undoubtedly a certain someone was hoping the clock would run out as it will ( most likely ) on specific offences .... but as you rightly highlighted.. not all ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. I reckon if you were to ask any trackwatcher for an opinion as to whether King seems to know what he's doing... I'm going to suggest nearly all,if not all would give a resounding ...YES.

Whether that translates to the scoreboard is obviously yet to be seen but there's 'buy-in' out there. There's excitement.. As opposed to going out there and Doing this or doing that.. dont do etc etc I sense and got to see ( little bit ) ... go out and PLAY Footy ... but when you are...keep these things in mind and remember what was practiced. ... but play footy...trust your team mates... They're trusting you.

    Just watch... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our midfield will clearly be a question mark this year but our midfield hasn't been firing for some time. Steele is a solid choice and will at least be a replacement for a 2025 Oliver

What's different for me is that we now have a lot of alternatives to our defensive structure added to good 2 way running wingmen. The defence should go back to being very solid.

How we bring the ball out of our backline will largely determine how the ball goes fwd.

If we change our ball movement to a similar style to Geelong - where you'd think King has all the IP - then we will look a lot more dangerous up front.

If we bomb the ball to Mihocek we'll be the same as we have been in the past 4 years. Nowhere.

Mihocek's goals in 2025 were about 80% lead to the ball carrier and mark. If we don't change then recruiting Mihocek will be a fail.

Creative fwd entries will be the key for us. The Jeff White analysis of Melb v Geelong was enlightening and small improvements to our fwd entries will see way better scoring. That's how we will get to 12+ wins.

They are definitely working on a different, much improved delivery . Not just the physical aspect but the mindset governing it.

  7. Well... my take.... far too many 'narratives' based upon 'ruling' perceptions.

Reads to me more like 'tell me you dont really understand the change without directly saying such '

There's a lot of subtlety in what we're changing that slips straight through to the keeper if you're not nuanced in the real nature of Melbourne.

It's not that it's another team's pundit that's spruiking it's more because its simply someone not overly observant.

I haven't seen any set plays after a point as yet.

In the sims out of the backline, it is the usual pass it round and spread, till an opening is there. Most of the time the balls goes close to the boundary and 50 arc, from there they seem to be looking to bring it into a central corridor.

The only thing I noticed in the sim ( that I watched ) it looked offerings were given both sides... kicker must have some sort of criteria upon which to decide.

If this is the case then this is harder to defend. Be novel for us eh... no more Roost it down the left ( they'll never suspect... )

The emphasis in everything they do is on quick ball movement. The intensity is up. Disposals do not always hit the target, but the movement is lightning fast.

    ........

This is what it's now all about......

An absolute damning problem with past 'styles' was we gave everyone far too much time to adapt and setup. The amount of stopping and propping in the past would drive me to tearing hair out ( had I any )

This wont be us now. It's not about playing on at all costs as we won't. But we certainly wont be letting opposition's catch their breath.

Many of the drills now are about ensuring there are options. You have the ball...GO!! .. something will open up, someone will present..or kick to the 'spot(s)' ... someone will be there. Dont think, don't wait... DO!!

It will take time to truly become second nature as well as developing finesse and accuracy but belief will deliver.

    Can't wait to watch .

Too many dinky 15 metre sideways kicks from Salem ... holds up the play and allows the opposition to reset

Bowey getting there as is Turner. But I wouldn't call either as gun players who can bullet-pass 30 metre kicks to position. Not yet anyway

Kozzie isn't bad but in the future, Taylor, Windsor, Kolt, Langford & Lindsay are capable

I only attended the one session prior to Christmas and things may have evolved otherwise since ( inviting other trackwatchers to interject )... but thinking back in nearly everything I watched... the impetus was on forward movements... can't say I recall any overly lateral time killing stuff.

Interesting now I think about it.

Kicking skills and more kicking skills

If all our players could hit targets with 30 metre bullet-passes (forward), we'd be world-beaters

As it stands, how many have we got, with that skill, who also gets the ball a lot?

I'm reckoning a few of our youngsters (and future youngsters)

Bit like a handover in a relay ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gotta be quick... but got to be fluid and not drop the bloody thing..

    See where I'm going

Food for thought... a winning relay team needn't have the fastest runners.... they need the quickest changovers ๐Ÿ˜‰

If we can transition "effectively" with pace we wont need to be the quickest players by foot... but we'll be an absolute handful for opponents. A lot of defending relies on poor inbounding as well as time to setup. Get opponents on the Blackfoot.... get into their heads that one slip up and we're scoring snags... you've half the game won.

    Good going Kingy...

  14. The problems are not design or elements thereof. Thats just engineering and design.

We not inventing the wheel here. It's a nicey nicey warehouse type structure with gyms , offices and a cafeteria.. yep Rocket science right there.

A second year Arch student could whip that up in a weekend... an amateur with sketchup could do similar.

Seriously this is getting beyond a joke.

That no one at the club is saying boo, that its all been 'walked-back' suggests another TFU .

Process reporting ought not be sacrosanct. We aren't talking Stealth Fighters here.

Honestly, how hard to develop a business plan. They're not a mystery akin to the Pyramids... they're an every day thing that competent people create, and in an designated time frame and contextual brief.

That word competent keeps doing drive byes.

A tunnel from our facilities to the ovals, inside the 28m wide track, can be dug without interfering with the racetrack.

I am sure the tunnel could be done at a time when the track is not used during Caulfield downtime and they also own Sandown and Mornington racetracks as well.

Yes, it is possible to dig a tunnel under a 28m wide racetrack without disturbing the top track layer using trenchless construction methods. These specialized engineering techniques are designed to minimize surface disruption, making them ideal for tunneling beneath active infrastructure like roads, railways, and racetracks.ย

    Methods for Non-Disruptive Tunneling

The primary methods used for this type of application are:

    • Microtunneling This is a remotely controlled, steerable system where a small-diameter boring machine (MTBM) excavates the tunnel. As the machine advances, pre-fabricated pipes are simultaneously jacked into the ground behind it, providing immediate structural support and ensuring ground stability. This method is highly accurate and minimizes ground settlement, which is crucial for sensitive surface structures.

    • Pipe Jacking Similar to microtunneling, this method involves pushing pre-fabricated pipes or box sections through the ground using powerful hydraulic jacks from a drive shaft. It is commonly used for installing utilities or pedestrian subways under existing infrastructure without interrupting surface traffic.

    • Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) For larger tunnels (such as a full vehicle underpass), a TBM could be used. Modern TBMs with positive face pressure control (like Earth Pressure Balance or Slurry Shield) are specifically designed to operate in urban environments and soft ground conditions while maintaining soil pressure to prevent surface subsidence.ย

    Key Considerations for Success

    • Geotechnical Investigation Before construction begins, a thorough site investigation of the ground and soil conditions (including groundwater levels) is essential to select the appropriate method and machine. Unexpected ground conditions are a main cause of failure in trenchless projects.

    • Minimum Depth of Cover The tunnel must be installed at a sufficient depth below the track to ensure the stability of the surface. A qualified tunnelling engineer would determine the precise minimum depth required based on the soil type and tunnel size.

    • Monitoring The process involves continuous and sensitive monitoring of the ground and the track surface to detect any minute movements and make real-time adjustments to the jacking pressure or excavation rate.

    • Logistics The construction will require entry and exit shafts (jacking and reception pits) at either end of the proposed tunnel path, located away from the racetrack itself.ย

By employing these advanced engineering techniques, the structural integrity and operational functionality of the racetrack can be maintained during the tunneling process.

    Far too costly and needless.

    Cut and stack top surface...

    Excavate... establish drainage.. sub base.

Drop in inverted sections.. . Pour floor.

Finish.. off tunnel.. Lay sub strate to race track alignment.. Replace presaved turf..

It's really not hard. Could do in a fortnight.

This is not an impediment to design or construction. It's just a bloody tunnel.

Well if the track has to be dug up to build a tunnel then the MRC may have something to say about that.

From an engineering standpoint its ridiculously simple and quick with drop in sections. Done in racing off season the MRC wouldn't even know... be far too busy fizzing off people and talking ๐Ÿ’ฉ

My information is that yes, the CRRT and the Club want the project to proceed. To the extent that they are involved I understand that the MRC is erecting roadblocks wherever they can. They have never wanted us, nor anyone else for that manner (e.g. the local community) on that site. This position has not been helped by the continuing changes to the MRC Committee and management. My own view is that a political conclusion will only occur when the Premier decides to knock some heads together, i.e. the heads being (1) the MRC and the Racing Industry and (2) the AFL and the Sports industry. Hopefully we come out the winner in that battle.

Thanks Harvey, that kind of puts things into a perspective and not a cheerful one.

I can promise you no Gov will go out of its way to spend money where there's no gain.. I can see the State happily using the disharmony to effectively walk away from any mou whether that was formalised or not.

I'd happily have Caulfield going ahead. Not holding my breath.

As big an impediment as any is that we have no real allies in all of this. None I've ever noticed.

Scopus paid $195mil to purchase their new Caulfield site. To fund that, they need to sell their Burwood site.

Sorry.. what they're intending to do with a privately owned piece of land can logically have no impact on what the MFC does in conjunction with a separate entity.

Or put another way... this clusterfuch is entirely our own.
