  1. I we lose this week we will have to wait until the week after for a win !! No good getting ulcers over it. We have had a pretty good run with injuries over the last two years. Gawny will have had a good rest by the time he comes back. I doubt whether we will see T Mac this year so we need to prepare from now ( Note , I am not a doctor but everybody else in the stratosphere is an expert on soething e.g. Corne, Lloyd, Sumich & Collingwood's baby sitter(to be appointed))

  2. Have to agree. In the final Qtr we dropped the ball /or fumbled at least half a dozen times at the Middle/HF area whish would have given us a great scoring opportunity. Lever is not a 1on 1 defender and we got exposed back there.

Brayshaw has turned into an elite HBF/W.

    ON A LIGHTER NOTE:

Pre match jason Dunstall was giving the big spiel that Weiderman must seize his opportunity today and attack the ball....etc..etc.Everyone was looking at him openmouthed. Eventually someone said there is a problem with that...!!  He is not in the side !!!!🙃😄 Worth the months subscription to Foxtel !! (Spoilt by BT's inane commentary.)

I would much prefer that Foxtel use their own (except fot HOWiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee). They can do it for interstate matches.

  3. Suddenly Tmac has become important.

For ages people on the forum's have criticised Tom for not getting enough kick, not puttingin, being a liability BUT suddenly when he is not their some are waking up to the fact he was an important cog in our Forward set. i.e 195cm, massive endurance, tean oriented and can kick goals when required .

We just did not know what we were missing out on !!!

  4. I thought Buckley's comments re the role of Spargo,Neale Bullen, Sparrow & Kozzie in that he said the way they play their roles enable our team to function so well. I think he rated the pressure our smaller forwards put on the oppostionas the best in the AFL.

Actually it is interesting to get this "coach" type analysis rather than the Media people like BT, Howie etc who only think Clarrie,Trac, Gawny and May are the only people who count.

  5. Even when he gets towards a MAJOR milestone people still bag him. His role as the "optional" tall forward is pretty thankless in that you are required to run in the wrong direction and take 2 nd option. But then if the ball is spilled you have to double back and provide the grunt to allow the smalls to get room. Takes a team player and Tmac hs proved he is that. Congratulations.

Every week this thread has some wild predictions.
Have supporters not learnt yet that we will always make minimal changes, even if forced, it will always be like for like and we will NEVER drop players who play their role well even if you think Kosi and Spargo should be kicking 4 goals a game or Neal Bullen should be going at 100% DE.

Just because you personally don’t see the value our lesser lights bring to the side, doesn’t mean you swing the axe wildly for absolutely no reason.
Cohesion and continuity is one of the most important things required to win a flag. By backing our system and our players we have become a team so high in confidence and belief. You don’t throw that out the window because you think someone at Casey would do better than Kosi for a mere moment.

Yes, too often we are chasing a "Whipping Boy" e.g. Oscar MCD, TMac, Gus, ANB & now Smith. Oliver & petracca make some real howlers, but do a lot (soory nomous) amount of good stuff. Lakewiase with any of our players. However these "cogs" on the machine ar what keeps it purring along. As Trac said after round 2, that a lot of the team acts make it easier for team to really shine !!! Unfortunate fact of life when we have 28 players but only 22(1/2) spots.

  7. Just listened to Hardwick's Press Conference. There was no wingeing, just constructive analysis of the difficulties in playing against us at the moment. Long may it continue, because it has been a fair while coming.

I really do like the way Brayshaw Langdon and increasingly Bowey float around the Halfback line . Sets us up beautifully.

And neither should he be given that at least two of his kicks into the forward hot spot were directed straight to Weid.

I think he dropped them both.

We all laude Sparrow's tap to whoever, but TMac does the team thing too : Strong body at stoppages /packs, leads to other side to BBB/SW)  Tmac has taken a gorilla to the other side of the paddock .                                                                                                              If he gets it he will score (high %) but could do this 10 times a game and is ignored (but we say how well Ftitts & BBB have played and then we criticise his lack of stats.

Spargo, Kossie, TMac & last years whipping boys Gus & Sparrow are all examples of our Team !!

  9. I am confused because :

    • At what stage is showing extreme " demonstracy" . Lie dropiing arms and shaking head (whilst being silent) is going to be capital offence soon
    • At the same time someone going off their nut is not helping the game. Kick them off for 5 minutes with no interchange .The issue would be solved immediately !!

I thought the umpire (or one of them) said that the 50 was awarded against Clayton Oliver for something he said when the free was paid

I don't think it was awarded for simply having arms outstretched or raised

    Probably sounded like Ahhhhh &8^%90k

Why not get the designers of the Goal Review system and have an Ump Respect Review system. Average out 2 minutes per review (based on Goal Review)Then we could reduce games to 5 minutes and be like Grid iron and take 4 hours to play.

  11. With all the "value judgements"made of players and the subsequent criticism floating through the posts in many places , it is good to get a merit based system to evaluate players. BUT......even then statistics still fail to eliminate the "value judgement" methods.

Some of us still have our "Whipping Boys" e.g. Gus (ala Joe Boy 0 , TMac , and a "newy" in Tomlinson. Good to see Smith is moving into acceptability.

Playing in his position is difficult. Rioli never had that many possessions either. What he supplies is constant pressure and a lot of attention from opposition defenders. He'll have days when he gets more kicks...

It also tells me that when Riv was on the ground his performance was first class. As was Bowey's...

Somebody once said that Rioli was the best "10 Possession Player he had seen " I think defenders were always worried when he was in the area. Kozzie is moving in that vein.

  13. I keep saying ( to my fellow golfers who have reminded me about 186 for years )that we had 2 Practice Matches against Geelong :

1 To see how much of a start we could give them and still win.

2 : To show them how much we could win by when we play fair dinkum.

I wonder why nobody wants to play golf with me !!!

  14. We knew the top blokes were going to be fantastic, but what about Sparrow proving finals is not a barrier and young Bowey who also proved he was up to it !

    Spargo , ANB  as well

Viney & Gus .........the list goes on .

Actually you are not going to believe this, because I thought the finals was best of five (just like NBA) and we won the first three by exactly the same score...........resounding !!! ( How come Foxtel was the only broadcaster for the final 2 games.

  15. Lat's bring back Doug Heyward, ( plus there was one other that escapes me) Thorald Merrett with special comments by Percy Beames.

OR : Really a return to Jack Dyer, Tim Lane

They all had the advantage of No TV so could make a few mistakes (of names etc ) without us knowing.

Harry Beitzel was the 70 & 80's version of BT

  16. Thanks for the info and the discussion.

The more we get into the Stats argument, the more we agree that the Premiership that we won (about 3 times last week)  was because of a committed group of young people.

When you think that Kossie, Trent Rivers, Tom Sparrow and young Jake Bowey are being introduced into this sort of environment that has proved so successful by people like Harmesy, ANB (most improved footballer),Gus etc etc.

Just think how seamlessly Bowey and Petty (no frills) and Sparrow (especially in the finals) have fitted into their roles and been so effective.
