  1. I saw Flower come on the ground @ Victoria Park as 19th /20th man in the Reserves. Comments made were " Lookit the Shiela" as he had "athletic glasses"    10 minutes later he got the ball , showed it to half the Collinwood side and the comments were "kill the shiela" My favourite moment. .........He was silk !!!

Barassi was brutal, but lifted sides through shear will, like nobody except for Maximus.

  2. I think Dusty has switched off. We have put time & $$ into our development and these blokes could be 10 year players so a short term fix does not strengthen the Playing list.

I've change my mind. Looking at this I can see now that it perfectly represents Collingwood; shockingly expensive, desperately attention-seeking, and profoundly ugly.

But here comes the key quote behind it all. Collingwood president identifying a chance to sell 'premium' merchandise to the tasteless property developer and 'legitimate import-export enterprise' crowd. You'd only need to sell 100 at $50k a pop to be looking at millions in profit.

"A version of it should be available for members and collectors."

Why could not Collingwood divert some funds (for rings) toward public housing instead of pumping up (overpaid)egos. A Premiership medal from the AFL would mean a lot more in the long run !!!(and provide more to society as a whole.

Late votes for Woey jnr.  Taj played 22 minutes.  Had 9 possessions , 3 inside 50s and 2 clearances.   A full game in the starting 22 next week 👏👏👏

HAs started to look like he belongs. I saw his old man play on Hird one day against Essendon. Fascinating !!!

This is bollocks.  If the AFL have $2.2M to [censored] away, I'm sure grass roots footy could find a use for it.  Or Past Player Welfare perhaps.

They already get a medal. I'd suggest that any player who feels he needs a dirty great chunk of bling to remember his premiership has been dodging the concussion protocols

What a load of rubbish from the AFL who are trying to corporatise/americanise our game. Give it to Junior Footy development. There are lots of people at grass roots who spend a lot of their own money just to have basic facilities.

Likewise I cannot justify building a stadium in Tasmania that is only going to be used for 8 times a year. Maybe it is going to be used to house poeple who are looking for a roof over their head. Where are the priorities in Society.

Just because American Sport does, NRL (heaven forbid if we copy them) doesn't mean it is good for the game.

  6. My father was in Gallipoli in July 1915, then in France from 1916 till the end of the war. That is how he spent his 17-22 birthdays. Long term I do not think he ever settled down after that. He disappeared when I was 5 and Mum was left woth 4 kids under 5.

Then 20 odd years later I was in Vietnam as a National Serviceman (1967-68)

So Anzac day is a genuine day of reflection (on how lucky we are to have a life)

  7. Actually the articles by the "real" journalists at the Age seemed pretty complimentary & objective, but "Carro's contribution to "journalism" compares favourably with Channel 7's "current affairs" program.

I do not think it is in her DNA to say anything positive about Melbourne FC.

Actually I feel that Collingwood should have to pay Gus' contract out of their "Player payments"  with no salary cap relief considering what they got away with.

Wow, 3 AFL great players on a school football coaching panel.

    Unbelievable.

Yes, and there are a lot of schools who cannot afford proper facilities. The amount these blokes earn should be deducted from Govt Grants !!

  9. A few posters on this thread seem to think people are commodities.

TMac has been part of the backbone of MFC through thick and thin . We must be a Club who bind through loyalties and I feel some posters do not seem to have a loyal bone in their bodies !  I  recognise that both of them are in the twilight of their careers (bodywise), lets shwo some sembalance of respect !!!

Ugh you just think of moments where the pies could have been beaten but they annoyingly held on.

I thought they wouldn't have enough goal kicking power to win especially when McStay went out, presumed Brisbane had the better forward set up but stupid hipwood couldn't kick.

At least Brisbane can go home and escape this, we have to hear about it until next year

It wasn't his kicking, but his lack of getting the ball !!

That's what happens when you ignore the draft for multiple years. 2016 - 2018 in our case.

And too many fringe players given long term deals, eg Spargo and Chandler, presumably to push salary cap issues down the road.

Not every player is a star (at AFL Level) .

The cadets are Woewodin,Turner ,Laurie ,Howes

The Gunners . Spargo ,Chandler,  Tomlinson & Jordon come into that category.

The Bombadiers (one step up) are Sparrow,Bowey,Pickett,McVee, , The seargents are ANB, Hunter , Langdon & Lever

The Seargent majors (who really run the show) are Jack Viney & Steve May

The Looeys : Rivers, Fritsch & JVR

    Captain : Gus

    Half Colonels  Oliver

    Generals : Maximillius & Trac

An army cannot have too many generals, Colonels etc because the mundane things in the "battle" are mostly done on the front. The quality of the leaders have a great impact, BUT so do the work of the Gunners.

Point of this is that the role of everyone makes a Unit

Which is why I said he needs to apply himself.

Everyone knows when a player is doing everything they can to get in the best shape possible. You only have to look at Oliver and Petracca's body transformation to see this. They're both the ultimate professionals when it comes to training and diet and both have extremely low body fat percentage.

Brayshaw and Salem both need to take a leaf. Salem will never have the running capacity of Langdon, but neither did Brayshaw and he has played a significant amount of footy on the wing. So I disagree with the idea that Salem can't. It's up to him, he needs to get his body right and we need to see a physical change. Similar to Lewis and Hodge in their later careers. Drop some kg's, improve your diet and you'll cover the ground better.

Salem played a lot of his underage footy at half forward and wing and I think he's just being wasted at half back right now and a new positional change could get him going.

Look across the competition and not every winger can run like Langdon and not every one needs to depending on how they're utelised.

Bit harsh on Salem ,he was pretty crook earlier in the year.

Brayshaw will never win the Stawell Gift, but IS a footballer and is FLEXIBLE. HBF,Midfield,HFF .How many times does he appear in defence. He reads the game.

  13. At this stage it seems we have:

    • complete control of the draft
    • a new rule to have 25 players on the ground
    • a millions $ for Lynch (who is more than mature)
    • Naughton who is suddenly going to consistently take marks AND is going to 100% cure his goal kicking  plus would cost the Southern Stand if we were silly enough to take him.
    • that Van Royen is a spud and Petty has retired

     The simple solution is ...........
