  1. Green to HBF. We should not need to rely on Green in the forward line when we have so much forward talent to develop (sans FF, Jack CHF). Green may play his last year, whenever that might be, in the BP anyway. Correctly, Green's overall best footy has been forward, but his best year was when playing back.

I don't see Maric 'rushing the yards' at his point. Green can get contested ball, mark, and rake accurate left foot kicking through the opposition structures.

  2. Personally, I feel a lot of footy fans (and some MFC fans) buy into the notion that MCC fans are soft and don't attend games, are fairweather fans etc.

I feel that the turnout in the MCC area of MFC supporters is always quite good (considering it's 1/5 of the ground).

From what I see of the rest of the ground some weeks (namely last week and the Hawthorn game), it's the outer where the lack of MFC numbers really shows.

It's just a pet hate of mine, and probably and over reaction, but it's an opinion nonetheless.

Valid and effective point. I too see good attendance in the MCC from the outer. There's no doubt not enough supporters attend, although, did we not once have the best percentage turnout of crowd v members? But a high percentage of stuff-all doesn't equate to good crowd numbers. Anyway, the home crowds are poor and all the reasons have been covered elsewhere.

    Thanks for responding.

  3. The best is when MFC supporters buy into paying out MCC/MFC fans.I sit in the MCC every week, and the crowd is almost always quite good in the MCC. As for the rest of the ground (which is quite easy to see)...

I may be a little thick but I do not understand what you are trying to tell me.Please explain!

Like old dee, I'd like further explanation of above.

Regarding going to ES as opposed to the G, if you live in the bush, I'm finding it so easy to get to off citylink, straight into underground park, and get back on the road to home after.

In fact more than once, when the G carpark has been closed for wet weather, and the surrounding underground carparks will not allow football followers into them, I have turned around and driven back to NE Victoria without seeing the game.

And a 1:10pm start on a sunday game makes a positive difference. I will not attend twighlight (4pm)on a sunday due to length of trip home afterwards.

So, if you're one of the 50% of members who live regionally, give the 1pm sunday game a crack.

  4. We have over 36,000 Members why will the crowd be so low. Cant wait to hear all the excuses.

Because 50% of them live in regional Victoria and not in the suburb (sic) of Melbourne. That's our demographic.

Oh yes, 13,002. My wife and I will come down from Wangaratta.

  5. The fact is that Brad was the best choice of captain at the time and still is now.

Everyone is getting frustrated and want him gone thinking it couldn't get any worse. But it can.

No one else on the list is ready to be captain.

Trengove should be concentrating on his own game. He is a second year player. Calls for him to be captain are crazy and not well thought out. Watts has barely played 10 good games. He is not an option for captain.

Is Brad a [censored] captain? Hell yes. But we have no one to replace him with. If we made Moloney or Davey captain, we would be having the same discussion next year about them.

Fair call... What about Jamar as captain? At least he is solid at the game. We should forget about the captain being media and sponsor savvy for now and just have a captain who can lead, in a fashion. If Jamar is enticed away from the club as is rumoured, then what about Stef as captain?

  6. I think the general thrust of his article was that the AFL can't call a tank a tank, so therefore cannot investigate Bailey's claim.

You're right though, he did not include Carltank, Feraltank, WestCoastTank, CollyTank...the list of player development/experimentation goes on and on....

  7. Yip you are right, our support seems reflective of the negative attitudes many many supporters appear to have.

Psychologically they seem spent feel burnt and have lost faith in the system. They want to make the same changes we have for the last 45 years ie sack, coaches, sack players, sack CEO... that has achieved nothing. Yet the very thing they can change ... they wont.

    Which is?

    There attitudes ... THEMSELVES.

    I see..... B)

  9. We do seem to lack height down back, and have stuggled against tall, solid opposition forwards. Mind you, with poor forward and midfield defensive pressure these guys are really under the pump with the ball coming in so fast.

I'm not sure why Warnock has not been able to break back in to the key defensive position. I would play him.

Bartram has skill deficiencies but you can't doubt his courage and aggression, things we badly need rignt now.

  10. Agree. Very harsh on Jurrah. One of our few players who really threatens opposition defences and gives opposing coaches match-up worries. And yeah maybe he doesn't work as hard as some, but those hard working types don't normally do what Jurrah often does either. He was the difference between us and the Tigers IMO, and crucial in us holding off Port. Not every player is going to be a Nathan Brown (the Dee) type, nor should they be. I feel he could have really turned it on this weekend, but now we'll never know.

Interesting Rollo, that you defend Jurrah and you have an avatar of Robbo. Both players have the same deficiency in that they can offset the goals they kick by opposition goals. How? [censored] weak forward pressure!

  11. In the early 80's we signed the "best available coach" with a proven record of grand final wins. He coached for 5 years for no finals leading up to just before the 'Swooper' Northey era.

The "cheap" coach, Swooper, oversaw a miracle run of wins in '87 to firstly make the finals from a hopeless ladder position, then to play a preliminary final. He introduced a gameplan called "kick the f...in' thing", as opposed to his predecessor, long and through the corridor.

So my point is that the highly paid, best possible coach realy didn't turn our fortunes. We paid him a fortune (for the times).

So tell me, why is a "Malthouse",for example, going to win a premiership for us. What has changed that much?

Let's face it, Collingwood, now bodily strong, and with talented players, basically bully other sides with their strength, accuracy and commitment. Do we have the 'cattle' for Malthouse to spend 10 years to turn them into AFL bullies, the time he took to 'arse' a winning Collingwood combination?

  12. Very strong "rumour" doing the rounds that the final straw that broke the camels back was ....

Demons have been approached by AFL to sell more home games in particular to Darwin

1 department liked the idea where the FD & players are not keen unless condition apply.

I cant validate this as fact so take it for what it worth ... suppose time will tell.

Big question would you be happy to sell more home games to Darwin?

    crap

  13. Well said. The guy is a gun. Watch him soar post Bailey.

People forget that our team has not been coached properly this year, the fact our structures don't allow us to get out of back 50 against a solid press is evidence of that...

Structures break down when certain players are unaccountable

  14. Kennett knows how to get his face in the news, and by extension Hawthorn some publicity. He knows how to keep the Hawthorn brand out there.

He does not actually believe a word he says. By kicking the longest known sports club, with an ill President and some footy club growing pains in the guts, he effectively washes MFC of the news pages and replaces it with Hawthorn.

Regarding the actual art of tanking, Anderson knows that footballers are playing for their livlihoods so will play at their given best at the time.

So what should any 'tanking' club be punished for? Developing players ability to work in an unfamiliar position? Getting some games into some raw talent?

No, Kennett is good for keeping Aussie Rules in the public arena, so he can go his hardest. Like Eddie.

  15. I can live with Sylvia gone.

Given the time it has taken for him to develop but still be inconsistent, and still be unaccountable, and still never appearing to play for anyone but himself, and never to be leadership material, and over inflated with regard to what he's worth, we can live without him and develop others.

He will be a great player in a developed team, if they can live with him.

  16. Personally: Trengove, Frawley, Grimes, Jamar, Watts, McKenzie.

Names I have suggested to my friends. Jordie Mc as Captain to set the bar.

    Agree.

Wipe most of the current group.

RR, you've been concussed by the recent machinations.

  17. I wonder if some might stop for a moment to think that its being able to do this very job which might give him some sustenance for the soul. Its a focus, almost a distraction possibily at times from his obvious health issues. And he's looks more than a tad crook atm. There may wel lbe a symbiosis of sorts occuring between Jim and his role.

Happy for him to remaiin if he wishes to. But look after yourself mate !! For you and your family :)

Thanks Bub for putting a human face on it. Totally agree. Jimmy needs to remain as president of MFC, active or not.

We love him as our leader, like the Brits love the Queen.

Some of those MFC high paid extras can pull his weigh, and theirs!

  18. The idea is right given our problem with mature onground leaders. By their nature and standing within their clubs, they are not available at almost any price.

    But if you could, then;

    Jonathon Brown

    Joel Selwood

    Matthew Pavlic

  19. Imagine if we had the team whereby Jack would be the 3rd forward pencilled in each week instead of the first. Not ideal development to have him used to plug every hole this team has. I hope we don't destroy him in the process.

  20. I sense another rebuild but this time we will have some leaders with backbone like Trenners, Frawley, Watts, Grimes, Jordie and Tappscott to support the kids coming through, I reckon we will start to drop down the ladder again and will have to get some high draft picks to climb back up. This time we need someone who can recruit topliners not second graders like Cameron and Prendergast have.

We will survive as a club but this will destroy our credibility for years to come. No more mealy mouthed statements from Cam Schwab we need him to come out and be strong and say that this is totally unacceptable to the MFC. Bailey is gone and Green has stepped down from the captaincy.

Also we have given Tom Scully 48 hours to decide where his future lies.

    Totally agree.

To qualify the TS theme, if he was to stay it would need to be on realistic money, so in essence we need to say goodbye.
