  1. He can't stand Malthouse, dandeeman. Or anything to do with a successful club in Collingwood.

    You've got that right HT.

Now that it's happened, I'm very comfortable with Mark Neeld's appointment, and now that he's a Dee you'll never see me ragging him or his coaching style on these boards. As I never ragged Dean Bailey. It might be loyalty - now there's a silly word these dayz. :)

  2. So are you saying coaches are over-rated? Why are you worried about the appointment then?

And you can't do much better than win a flag can you?

    What exactly is your argument?

I don't think we need to spend the house on M&M or any other Coolingwood gameplan officionardo. MFC list is not the filth list.

  3. Where's the link to the press conference where he said this will be the game plan?

    He's a Collinwood assitant coach!?

I guess one Premiership banked & another likely in a fortnight suggest's to me YOU are full of Sh_t

Who wins the premierships cocko, the man in the box?

  4. So Mark Neeld is the go eh?

Let's start kicking the ball around the boundary line. Sounds great. But it took the filth years to perfect the play under M&M.

5 years later than it took the Wangaratta Magpies to succeed with this play in the Ovens and Murray, the bush. Then only because the opposition couldn't believe players would run so far to get a kick or pressure the opposition. This is a lame gameplan. Take out the dynamic boundary running, marking forwards, and you have no game. Ask Carey! Then ask Geelong!

Give me a break, around the boundary, and a half baked forward press is not what MFC needs, yesterdays game.

Get Choco or stay with Viney. Don't get sucked in to the M&M plan. (candy on the outside). He has been uplifted by a maxed out money club and Neeld is a small portion but edible portion of that club.

  5. People can probably stick it up their asses if they don't appreciate and achnowledge homosexuality

Personally, I think the word "marriage" is for christians whom go to church. Or not.

But 'marriage' can be an equally legally option for all, and can be enshrined in Australian legislation.

Just don't ask the Pope to marry you in his church!

  6. Fairly evident that MM's future, even next year, is not in Media. He will never be the voice of a football club. He can only be a technician of football technology and training, which he currently is not!

Give me one reason why MM should be paid a destructive fortune to coach the hereditcally greatest and oldest sports club in the world.

  7. I could not see anything today that gives hope for next year. Jack Trengove excepted.

We played the bottom side and thrashed around and stuggled.

Malthouse can't be coach next year because that's a waste of money for a non talent (see his FD backup and $$$).

Get Mark Williams here to kick some ass in 2012.

  8. The Million dollar question is just how much money Eddie is prepared to come up with to ensure Mick doesnt wander in 2012 ?

The reason Mick and Eddie cant really agree on a particular role for 2012 is that is all reality there isnt one that would satisfy all parties, especially Mick. . He wont want to be overseeing anything thats essentially a figment of the imagination, i.e a lame duck exercise. Conversely Buckley doesnt want Malthouse hanging around looking over his shoulder either.

Here we have 3 Alpha males ...all with very very big egos. Only thing for certain is neither Eddie nor Bucks is going anywhere soon. Eddie doesnt want MM faliing into emeny hands, well not any earlier than can be helped. So all Eddie can really do dois throqw a few fists full of dollars Mickeys way and allow him to sit out a year and do what ever he likes in the media.. In Eddies mind this might cement the hallowed trifecta of results.

So what are informal talks really ? Has Eades people made a call to Eddies people ? ..how about a coffee ?? . No foul no harm etc.

You can bet Eades people are on the blower to anyone who'll pick up the phone.

Keep in mind this is the silly end of the season

    Basically agree bub.

Why would Eddie pay MM $1M to stay at the filth in 2012? There is no usefull job for him. The said contract could only be to keep MM and his 'secret (game)plans' away from opposing clubs. Even the Filth will not pay $1m for that. They have one premiership and a second in the bag and under Buckley they are looking for 3 or 4 on the trot.

Even the great MM could not stop the run over the next 2 years by coaching MFC, Adelaide, Doggies, or PA. So MM is not a threat to the Filth's short term future.

The game plan and Collingwoods development were not the result of MM. He spent 10 years and 375 odd coaching games without a premiership prior to 2010. Look behind MM for recent Collingwood development.

As I've said before, MM is not the answer for MFC.

  9. This thread and supporters in general are not hard enough on Bartram's kicking and decision-making.

When he gets the footy in his hands, he manages to commit atrocities that crush the heart of football teams, especially those filled with kids that haven't been battle hardened.

A team like Collingwood may be able to carry a turnover merchant, but guys like Bartram are hampering the team's development.

He's not our only turn over merchant, by far. Why rid ouselves of one who has a crack every time he plays. Find a satisfactory replacement first. I just want players who will have a crack right now.

Also, bring Warnock back too so Frawley and Rivers can be released to more reasonable matchups.

  10. My “full strip” debut was in the spring of 1961. I was seven years old and it was sports day at Springvale State School.

Of course my dad could not afford a MFC jumper so my mother knitted one for me. Attached was a Sun newspaper MFC logo on an oval backing. This was dutifully sewn onto the left breast. Mum was able to buy me my beautiful Red Leg socks, turned over specially sewn garters at the top.

My Dad, a weary WWII veteran had completed building our timber and fibro house at 39 Regent Ave Springvale prior to my birth. Now he was ensuring my footy skills were well learned. I then played footy for 20 years.

Dad was raised in South Melbourne prior to enlisting in the army and heading off to New Guinea to fight the Japanese in Buna and Bougainville around 1942. He came home with a bout of malaria but then returned to Buna for another stint. He had played in South Melbourne reserves prior to the war.

My Auntie still lived in a terraced house in Park St, South Melbourne, so every second Saturday we would visit her and walk to the lake oval to watch South Melbourne get flogged.

I caused my father embarrassment by wearing my new full Melbourne Football Club strip to the lake oval each second Saturday, so he began taking me to MFC matches occasionally, never at the G, but at other suburban grounds. I’ll always remember seeing Carl Ditteritch’s first St Kilda game which was against Melbourne and I was there. It must have been at Moorabbin. We got beaten.

My father moved us from Springvale in the summer of 1964 to Wangaratta in NE Victoria. I still remember the thrill of the ’64 premiership, but the hollowness of not being close to it. There was no TV. We just heard the news.

My dad passed away at 50 from cancer. I am now 58 years old and still await my dream to see Melbourne Football Club as premiers.

  11. In any league other than the AFL, I think players will play at a club for success.

Was it Brett Ratten who said, in effect, it comforts old age to be a part of the premiership brotherhood?

But as is constantly concluded on this site, money and career (albeit short) are most important.

  12. Assuming that Malthouse won't leave Collingwood......Neeld is certainly firming for the job.

What i like most about him is that aside from his credentials as an assistant, he is coming from the most professionally run club that is leading the competition in terms of football department development and extracting everything from the players. That knowledge is invaluable.

Sanderson's credentials are very good too and you have to back the clubs decision makers in.

My preference is for Neeld however at this stage given Malthouse and Clarkson are most probably unattainable.

    Yeahh.

  13. It's not useful to perpetuate the notion that MCC members will not travel to Etihad.

Yes, they attend the MCG every week. Why wouldn't they? Yes they look out and see an empty outer. Why wouldn't they?

They obtained their MCC membership after a 20 year nomination. They must continue to pay a premium to maintain their MCC membership. It's easy to see dissatisfaction from them as to why the pathetic masses don't attend games at the G. Perhaps the smokers stand contains the only real MFC supporters who are left.

I think, as a MFC member who lives in the bush, I'd rather attend games at Etihad. When I attend with a pathetically small crowd, I'll probably blame the MCC members who went to the snow. It's easy.

  14. It's not either or, it's both. We're gonna be spending 100% of the salary cap when we're contending - you can't spend more than that. Money we "save" on a coach can't be spent on players.

I guess you reckon the CEO of a company just "oversights" too?

Whether the CEO oversees anything or not I don't see how he got into the argument. I accept what you say about spending the salary cap.

I still want a Judd more than I want a Malthouse. Our problems are largely on the field. So how do we justify massive increases in off-field spending for a coach, especially a Collingwood one?

  15. Is this the job application I'm praying for...

Good article by Matthews. Be hard to get the theme past many posters on here. Only old fashioned people who know nothing about football in the modern era believe players, in particular, determine a games results.

We could all find names of coaches in history whom were swept to grand final glory by a great team, but we would find it hard to name the coaches whom could deliver a premiership with a [censored] collection of players. I find it difficult to acknowledge that a coach alone makes 22 players great.

Today's 'manager of coaches', or head coach, must cop it in the neck if the team is unsuccessful. What does he really do but oversight the management of the FD and agreed gameplan/s anyway. Does he actually execute these things? No, he oversights them.

This is why I disagree with paying the future of the MFC to a bloke like Malthouse.
