Melbourne Football Club Commencement Dinner
jabberwocky replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
No it really is that simple. Maybe this is part of the problem with the club. There is no need to complicate this. If the coach doesn't want us to know then so be it. I expect him to make these decisions in the best interests of the club. I do not want my coach standing up in public outlining a bunch of plans that have been painstakingly discussed behind close doors (for good reason) to appease and entertain some members. Paternalistic maybe, but it is a pattern following what the successful clubs tend to do. -

What exactly did you want to hear about free agency Fan? What specifics of the plan to retain players could possibly be released that would appease you? "We are going to be a more professional football club and win some games of footy, then players will want to stay here." How about we just do it? -

I don't agree. If a player doesn't show the required intensity them they go back to the 2's. This hopefully ensures that when you pull on a Melbourne jumper you know that less than 100% will not get you a game. That is the culture we need to perpetuate. Errors can be worked with, effort should be compulsory. -

There is selling the club and there is winning games of football. One of these options achieves both of these aims on it's own. I couldn't care if Neeld's philosophy is "tell em nothing" much like it is at some other hard nosed clubs. I want a footy coach not a marketing genius. If the club feels it needs to close ranks on some things whether it be to protect information or any other reason it so deems then I will wear it. -
Extremism is dangerous, there are differing shades of grey.

A long time, now he is jumping at the footy with his eyes fixed firmly on it more often than not.

Personally I like the less talk more action. Perhaps the previous regime had it the wrong way around. -
Still a young team, still expect some disappointing results, some regrouping after the odd ar&e kicking and hopefully ...eventually we will have a steely football team that knows what is required, that knows that there are no short-cuts, that anything less than full committment will get you pantsed...because they have been there. This is my prayer. Amen. I think Neeld is certainly purporting to be exactly what the club needs at this time, we shall see.

Hope he got a good price for you Dr. and I hope you have found a happy home. I have dreams of being sold to Jessica Alba for various reasons.

Matt Burgan is employed by the MFC. I think the use of the word dropped is quite deliberate.

He get's the footy stmj, that is a very good starting point for a mid. He also has very good peripheral vision and exceptional hands. This kid will make it I reckon, just may need to tick another box or to to be a staple in a Neeld midfield.

There won't be many "development" games given to players. Players that play senior footy will do so because they are capable of holding their own physically and willing to carry out a plan. It may be that a couple of players will need to take a step backwards to take a few steps forward under the new regime. Really like this kid and he has all the attributes of a very good inside midfielder, without yet having the build of one.

I think the last quote I heard from Neeld was "his workrate is good and he is in the mix to play Round 1" or something similar.

My kids do, we live in Geelong. My kids are tough.

Absolutely, would have thought there were 15 or 16 positions on the ground we would need to worry about before we look at the Russian. There would be 17 other clubs who would love him.

Liam Jurrah's return to training

Love it JCB -
Still they were all "incomplete" footballers. There will always be a place for taking a player who needs work be it on his game or character. Not that I am an investor but it's akin to having a portfolio, with your blue chip stocks and some speculative higher risk, greater reward stuff.

Thanks HT. It certainly appears to be reflected in our current coach's philosophy as well. Still to achieve the pinnacle you need to have a Franklin, Goodes, Steve Johnson etc. That is just a few blokes who may not have ticked all the boxes in their early days.

Liam Jurrah interview on Eddie Maguire 11/3/12

I would like to hear the official position from the club before coming to any conclusions, I am concerned at the club's absence in all of this. -

In Davis and McDonald we have a smokies, a couple of handy athletic defenders and good competitors.

Liam Jurrah: charged, on bail and discussion closed for now

There is no evidence here. I am fairly sure that both the prosecution and defence will be in possession of many more facts than any of us Demonland numbskulls. -

In essence I agree, even if RP is a little bit romantic in his expression. Do we need to keep this thread open? Viewpoints have been raised and debated. A new thread could be started if more official info comes to light? -
