Yeah we get a choice. We live in permissive society that tells us "if it feels good do it". Sadly it is a great lie. I will be telling my kids that Ben Cousins is an idiot for doing what he does, not that he is a poor old addict that doesn't have a choice. So that they know that there is no grey area, illicit drug use is stupid, end of story. That does not mean that addicts don't deserve help or even compassion, but before they change they need to realise that it is the stupidity of thier actions that got them where they are. I know that rehab isn't a simple process, but making a judgement about the act of drug taking is fairly straightforward for me.

We are getting into unfootbally areas but society breaks down when you fail to take responsibility for yourself and your actions. So yes Ben Cousin's has been an idiot. Ben Cousins has had the opportunity to decide whether he wants to continue to be an idiot, or whether he thinks it's time to stop being an idiot. It's his choice to make, it's just sad that his choices affect more than just himself, and that is the greatest tragedy of addiction.

I am confident that Jack will become the best footballer Jack Watts can be because I actually believe in this coachiing group's philosophy to development.

Watts can play, he has a prior for getting a kick up the rectum and then performing. He probably will play round 1 and if history repeats itself he will play well. Really looking to see how the season unfolds for him now. Let's not forget that Neeld starting drivng this bus very early and the media and others jumped on board after some ordinary NAB perfromanances. I believed that Watts wouldn't play round 1, but clearly he is right in the mix now. If he now hits the season with some momentum it will be a credit to Jack and the coaching staff.

Niggles off the ball are useless, not tough and brutal. Dermie craps on. If you chase tackle, harass, spoil, run hard and kick goals then you are a chance at dominating your opposition, which in turn can really antagonise them. Of course we need more of this.

Is Mark Neelds game plan too predictable ?

I'll have a look at it in the H & A with best available 22 and let you know. By mid season we might get an inkling. -

Melbourne and the Football World mourn Jimmy Stynes
jabberwocky replied to hardtack's topic in Melbourne Demons
There no losing in this battle, Jimmy Stynes is a winner regardless. It is past the point of willing Jimmy Stynes on. I am just praying for the best outcome for him and his family. MFC struggles with identity and "standing for something". This man has given our footall club an identity and values on which it can stand for generations and I don't think that is overstated. -
Melbourne Football Club Commencement Dinner

Seeing you wont let this die and have resorted to sending me PMs...for whatever reason. 1. I never used the word attacked, you certainly held Neeld responsible for lack of footy content hence making the night boring. 2. Surely you can pick apart your posts and find the hypocrisy in them. You hold Neeld responsible, you don't hold Neeld resposible. I want info on Drafting and FA, no I don't really. Come off it man. -
Mark Neeld prepared to sack melbourne players

Nothing new in that, MFC players have been playing in the Casey 2s for years. -

Melbourne Football Club Commencement Dinner
jabberwocky replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
This post contradicts much of your earlier posts and if it is an acknowledgement that you regret your earlier comments then good on you. I responded to the content that you put in your posts. If you have erred in explaining yourself then really that isn't my problem. I haven't continued to respond to the "sensitive information" issue. My issue has been with your statements on the whole about Neeld's "performance". Stop muddying the waters. -
Melbourne Football Club Commencement Dinner
jabberwocky replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nasher my issue is with the posts that lay the blame for this boring night with Neeld. From what I hear the night could have been done better. Personally I want my footy coach sweating over the footy stuff and not about how cool the commencement dinner is going to be. Neeld would not have organised it, he is probably not a natural entertainer and people who are expecting him to divulge sensitive information will always be disappointed, he is not that type of coach. My concern is that some posters seem to laying the boot in over trivial matters before the man has fired a shot. I won't sit around and watch that happen. The man has been placed in charge of our ailing club and deserves every chance. I know you will have read the thread, please read it again. I was very measured in my earlier posts, the detail of the posts became a more targetted as the argument continued and motives became clearer. Posts that laud Schwab and denigrate Neeld almost in the same breath yet still declare the night "boring" need to be rebutted. Yes I am a bit fired up about this. If I suspect any bias against Neeld in here, or I don't think he is getting a fair go then I will stand against it. You know that I am not going to side with the established view just because it is the established view. I will really leave it at that now. I am happy to continue this via PM. -
Melbourne Football Club Commencement Dinner
jabberwocky replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I will let it go, but I don't know how I could possibly misread this^^. I will just say this, Mark Neeld brings a new management style to the club, one that he has learnt from successful sources. I will not stand by and quietly watch him be undermined on these forums before he has fired a shot. And no I don't think he is the Messiah, I do think there is a good chance that he could be a very successful footy coach if given room to operate to his own agenda ie. winning games of football. -
From what I have heard and learned of Mark Neeld he will upset the establishment a little. His focus is to win games of football, everything else is secondary and of less concern. He stands to become a contentious figure at the Melbourne Football Club.

Melbourne Football Club Commencement Dinner
jabberwocky replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I mean this with respect but I am bemused that you would expect him to talk about players that might nick off, or our drafting targets (I know you don't expect specifics). That is the type of information that I would expect Neeld to keep very much in house. Did Dean Bailey present well at these types of dinners, how would you assess his performance? -

"It's a bit more conversationalist over here. They'll sit," he says. "There's a bit more short, sharpness down the road. "Down here, it is, 'What do you feel about that?', 'What would the impact of that be?' and, 'How's that going to make him feel or her feel?'. "I've spent the last four years 300m down the road. The clubs are completely different. I'm not saying what's right or wrong, I'm just saying how different clubs can be."
