  1. I think the club will go with Bruce or Green. I really hope they go with McLean though. He may struggle a bit with the role in 2009, but thereafter he'll be fantastic - and he'll benefit from a year as Captain in 2009. The club keeps talking about building for the future - if that's the case, it has to be Brock.

  2. I'm behind Bailey - it's good to see the passion displayed by Connolly and Bailey to this club and turning things around. It's easy to be negative (and many posters) are, but at least the club finally seems to be developing some positive leadership and direction.

  3. Yep - he strikes me as a good coach. We are an ordinary club with no facilities and no genuine stars nor good senior players. We have some good juniors though and our list is not that bad but still needs tweaking and improvement. He recognises that and is trying to turn this slow moving dreadnaught around. I reckon (with proper support from supporters and MFC management) he'll do it too ...

  4. I'd be very disappointed to see him go. He finally came good last season - and some players take time. If he were to leave, Carlton may very well get a bargain - and at the MFC's expense, as we've put four years of software into the guy only for Carlton to get the benefit of it ...

  5. True transcript of conversation which occurred just after the knife fight ...

Tom Hislop: Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.

Hislop's angry bogon mate (Alan Didak): It jumped up a notch.

Tom Hislop: It did, didn't it?

Alan Didak: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.

Tom Hislop: I saw that. Alan killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?

Alan Didak: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.

Tom Hislop: Alan, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

  6. The second and third quarters in the semi final against the Crows in 2002 were awesome. I don't think I've ever been more pumped up - we were down by about 50 after the first quarter and then Travis Johnstone entered the game. Nearly shed a tear on the final siren though - was absolutely gutted with that loss, because it was bloody unlucky (Powell being knocked out first touch of the ball, Robbo and Yze having a sickening head clash at a crucial time in the final quarter, Whelan doing his hammy etc).

A great, great game with loads of pathos. Despite the loss, was very proud to follow the Dees that night ...

  7. Green must be kept. We have to have some reasonable senior players on the list - and, culturally, I think the club will take a big hit if it trades Green (as he's red and blue, and is one of the few senior players to display courage and good form on the field week in week out).

  8. I fear that Bailey still hasn't worked out the strengths and weaknesses of our list. It was obvious we were stuffed at CHB today (prior to the bounce) and that he'd need Holland, but he still hasn't worked that out. He seems to love Miller, despite the fact that he's wholly ineffective. This is a worry.

  9. Who's going to play CHB? Rivers being out is a major concern.

This is an important game. I seem to recall round 1 of 2002 (when the "experts" had predicted a bottom 4 finish) the Dees beat the Hawks in a bloody good game and, in my opinion, it literally set up the season for us. The Dees were very unlucky not to reach the preliminary final in 2002. I don't think this list in necessarily capable of that, but I do think a good confidence boosting win over the Hawks this weekend is just what this team needs. I hope they deliver.
