I think we had best enjoy this season.

My guess is that during the off season there might be several transfers encouraged by the AFL. The skill gap between the teams is simply too large.

Time might rectify it but we all know how the AFL loves to meddle

They tried last season as other posters said we did very well in keeping the squad together.  I guess it depends on why they play.  I think from next season all players is going up close to median wage for workers of 60k this year increasing to 82k in 2027, so technically it could be a "full-time" income for some players for what is a part time commitment.

Where I see players moving is becoming the marque players at another side with the pay bump.  On the slip side we have enough talent that has been developed we could cover the loss of most players. And if we lose a significant players, most likely we could bring in another good player?

But you are right, lets enjoy this season.

There's the obvious Harley @ 1 then a bit of daylight imv.

Followed by a clump of potential VG players from 2 to about 8, at least for our potential needs.

No doubt some talent outside of that but is O’Sullivan a priority for us on a needs basis with Turner &  Adams coming through at Casey?

Just comes back to each club's positional needs for mine.

If we can't grab Sanders or Caddy i'd be open to trading up to get who we want (Duursma?) but not three 1sts.

I can see a three way mega trade deal happening between us, the Roos & WC in the final 48 hours or so IF WC are open to it of course.

WC probably doing the right thing by their club if they utilise their 1st pick to get multiple picks.

Mind you Harley is a great asset also but they need more than just one gun imv to start building and moving up the ladder.

A mega trade ensures the three clubs come out the other end of the sausage machine with their preferences, or fairly close, and seems the logical course.

While I agree, the notion that the best players are limited to say the top 10 in the draft pool.  Time and time again players taken later have proven to be great players.  Though its hard to find them and feel it really about their personal drive than their success in junior/development footy.

My sources tell me that we have struck a deal with Carlton. We are getting McKay and Curnow in exchange for pick 46 and Bailey Laurie.

    Is that better?

I heard they were throwing in Cripps to sweeten the deal when we went to walk out.

His first six kicks in his career were all free kicks in a match against us at the MCG from memory. Not one of them should have been paid - all dropping the shoulders. On that basis, it's against my principles to take him on :-)

Yep he's one of the worst for it.

I'm tipping red is implying WC might feel some resentment for us taking  a player away from them and therefore less likely to trade pick 1 to us.

could make it part of a trade deal and supporting each other...

They weren't the only who said their game wouldn't stand up come finals. Could easily pick out a few more. They're quiet now..

How's their shrewed recruitment? Markov and Hill added for extra speed and skill that compliments their game plan.

Kudos to McRea, he's a fine operator.

But I would say their game in finals was not the same as they played in the H&A especially in the GF.  Their style was quite different and less frantic to reduce scoring against them.  McRea is a smart coach.

Regarding the OP, Joe Daniher nearly got Brisbane over the line. A quality key forward is still hugely valuable.

He had great hands during the game and got some great goals, but gee he made a lot of mistakes when up the ground though.  Not a smart footballer.

  8. Only just finished watching the last qtr, gee aren't Brisbane a low pressure finals side in finals.  Who else found the final pressure nothing like ours and pies/GWS final games.  Rarely was it frantic. While there was a lot of tension form the close score it wasn't a classic game.

As wasn't the Brownlow medal are driving force in his team, gee, what a woeful game from the leaves "best" player when the team needed him.  But what other player really stood up for them consistently around the ball, very few.

AllI can say I'm glad I'm in Perth :)

  9. Based upon our experience this plan will not developed, simply putting more young kids into a side at the bottom does not fix the wider team problems.  Looks like they are losing a lot of their mature talent (Actually talent) this year, which we know puts you further behind.  They could be on a very long path like GC, lots of high draft talent but not culture left.  Look how long GC have taken to just be competitive.

They should be given extra support in the soft cap for development coaches etc.

And if McKay avg less than 10 possession a game, gee, why would you want him.  Or did he just defensive punch and watch the ball?
