  1. One of my enduring memories of Stynes was in this game. The Collingwood supporter behind me screeching in exasperation "why is it that every time we play these #@*&s we spend the entire f$#&ing game kicking it to that lanky f$#&ing Irish pr$%k" as Jimmy hauled in his umpteenth mark.
  2. Thought Robbo's interview with Col Garland on the day of Jim's passing was very good as well. As was Garlo as an interviewee. Can't have been easy for either of them
  3. Jaded I know what you mean. I still don't know how to express what I feel. For a fair chunk of yesterday I've was going over favourite memories of Jim. I truly cannot think of anyone more universally admired. Most of us will be feeling overwhelmingly sad and that's appropriate. But I hope that shortly I can start to celebrate the fact that Jim Stynes came to my footy club, to my city, to my country & gave so much of himself to all For more than a death to be mourned, Jim's is a life to be celebrated RIP Big Jimma
  4. Got everything crossed & praying for a miracle. Great post DL7
  5. Disagree with Rusty Nails on Jurrah. I think he's been consistent although there's a feller in Perth who makes the point that too often he turns what should be 5 - 6 goal games into 2 - 3 goal games. There was a stat produced on this site on how quickly LJ got to 50 goals & I think he was up with some of the best. The way it appears we are setting up & delivering into our forward line, we definitely need a player with the nous to get front & square to feed off marking contests. At the moment Flash seems best equipped although his best is behind him. Some have mentioned Kel Lawrence but that would be more out of hope I'd think. He's shown flashes of brilliance at times but more often than not his form is colder than a mother in law's kiss. Of the others on our list, Blease should be using his pace further up the ground. Bennell has the skill set but goes missing too often. He's the only one I can recall sharking the ball off packs in recent times. The goals Jetta has got are pretty much all set shots - from marks, frees. I believe the coaching staff got Jetta & Bennell arse about - Jetta should have been training as a small defender. He certainly has the tenacity & appetite for tackling & contesting. Just not convinced he has the pace. He is quite slow. I detest the idea of the ability to apply "forward defensive pressure" as being one of the leading criteria for a spot in the forward line. Anyone can do that - you just have to get 'em fit enough. The best forward pressure you can create is to beat your man, get hold of the footy and kick it through the goals. Simple but still true. Cyril doesn't get a gig just because he can chase & tackle.
  6. Surely you are either taking the [censored] or are on it. Why the hell should Sylvia give up his number ? Dirty Dave Williams made way for no-one. We delisted him with the intention of redrafting while he recovered from a knee reco. That blew up in our faces when wily Kevin Bartlett drafted him to Richmond. All of which is irrelevant anyway as he wore 15, not 12
  7. That was Jaded. She came up with some really good stuff
  8. I only found out yesterday that Francis Leach had moved on. Not been listening to SEN - have found if you want to listen to AM radio, driving through a carwash with your aerial extended is not the way to go. I thought after a patchy start, he & the Ox had developed into a really well balanced team over the past couple of years. Combining Leach's broad knowledge with Ox's "blokieness" worked well. He'll be missed. Got to listen to SEN a fair bit yesterday & was amazed by the lack of homework done by all presenters.
  9. I’m not as concerned as some on here about the way this was done. I’d have preferred the club had sanctioned the interview and that someone from MFC was there, maybe rather than Betheras. I don’t subscribe to Thomo’s conspiracy theory but I think that BHM rightly figured that at some point in the near future, LJ would have to front the cameras. By having Maguire (with whom BHM has a relationship) do the interview, he was able to control what was asked & protect LJ. What we got was something of a fluff piece on subscriber TV. Rather that than putting LJ through the stress of a press conference with 30 cameras & the dross that masquerades as football journalists competing to ask the stupidest questions. All of which would have been unscripted. And because this is bigger than just a footy story, the ambulance chasers would have been there as well, possibly asking the sort of questions that needafullback has raised concerns about LJ being exposed to. Now LJ & the club are in a position to say that he has done all the media he is doing and is just looking to complete his rehab & reclaim his place in the Melbourne team. And from listening to SEN and reading on here, the focus has shifted to Eddie. For once I don’t mind that While Eddie at times shits me as much as anyone else, it’s undeniable that he has been a sensational club president. He (sadly) dragged those pricks from the bones of their arse to a powerhouse. And when this story broke he was effusive i his praise of what MFC had done for LJ since we drafted him.
  10. On the subject of Jurrah, Rudeboy or the club's are the only words I'll take as gospel. You can suit yourself. But if you read over this thread & consider the reactions fair and reasonable, have fun doing it. To me, it looks like Bigfooty has invaded. Edit : sorry, replying to BB59, post 104
  11. Good news as Lawrence, Jetta, Strauss & Cook have all been in rehab group intil recently. Good to see that their rehab has progressed to the stage that they can take part in a match, albeit for Casey
  12. Can't believe some of the tripe I'm reading on here. Maybe we just chill until Rudeboy gets on with some facts. Given the vigour with which some of you jump to conclusions I'd be amazed if your hamstrings weren't ripped off the bone. FMD.
  13. Wallet, keys, phone , smokes & lighter After that, echo those that want no injuries. The conditions have dulled my expectations. Doubt the forward line will be able to set up & function the way Neeld is planning. And if predictions are correct about our new boundary hugging gamestyle are correct, we might get bitten on the bum by the NAB Cup OOB rules So yeah, no injuries
  14. Sounds a bit sensible Ralphi. Surely you can do better than that with the material available !
  15. That's pretty much it. If the rumoured offer of pick 19 & Hooker didn't get close to getting it done for a 3 game player then they'll have to up the ante considerably, especially if Caddy has a good season. Essendon will have to lose big - a player of say Ryder's status to get him. Can't imagine that being palatable to the black & red hordes. Caddy may well have a set preference (not sure if it's based on any ties to the club or on the financial inducements they offered him) but we should be pressing our case to his management. Same with Gaff. Get on the front foot. As WJ says, we have to make our club an attractive option. The addition of both players would go a long way to addressing our greatest deficiency in the midfield. I'm a fan of both of these kids & if we could snare them with a comp pick plus a player, Mr. Scully's contribution to the MFC might end up being pretty useful
  16. Nah, just yer standard Collingwood revulsion
  17. Can we change the thread title to something a bit gentler to kick off the discussion ? Just those two words together without warning made my stomach heave
  18. No you're not. This is Jon Ralph's personal crusade. Wish he would STFU & concentrate on trying to write a decent article about footy.
  19. Some time during his last season at West Coast
  20. That was Dennis Collins that Muir poleaxed. One of many
  21. Reckon you've got the wrong bloke. Daisy Williams morphed into manhood over 30 years ago.
  22. I always thought he lost a bit of zip when he blew his second hammy. Those thrilling rundowns pretty much dried up. After that the midfield / defence experiment started & perhaps it was thought that for Davey & the team, it was better to focus on his other great asset, his field kicking, rather than his out & out speed. There is another thread which offers a reason for the manner in which Davey is training, allegedly from a "source". I hope it's right because (providing the hammies hold), I think Flash going back to the future will be critical for our forward line. Enjoying this thread though. Wonderful combination of information & entertainment
  23. Jolly was hardly in his prime when he left. He'd managed to relegate himself to third string behind White & Jamar. He then spent several years as Sydney's #2 ruck before he became a quality player. The Wiz hurt. My cousin's then 8yo son idolised him. When told Jeff had left, he silently went into his bedroom & tore down the many Wiz posters that covered his walls.
