You add Baker and one of or both of Melk and Hibbo and you are well ahead on salary cap room.

We must attempt to continually upgrade and improve our side, to achieve the best chance of long term success. That could among other things, involve letting DL favourites go.
  3. Read the post I answered. I was answering who would play Hibbo’s role if he left.
  4. I would love to have seen Toby tried on a hbf, with his pace and line breaking, like the highly successful Daniel Rioli move.

    He plays mainly half back.
  6. Perhaps the same bloke we use if he is injured and in the years to follow.
  7. Well, they should have waited to see the landscape. If Melk and Hibbo got better offers, then so be it. IMO a mistake.
  8. He clearly wasn't Jimmy Munro.
  9. No we have the want for pick 7, absolutely. Delist Melk, Hibbo and Baker and we would be well ahead on salary cap space taking Bowes , Hunt and Tomlinson could leave and that's a heap more. I hope we are in this up to our eyeballs.

Just by the way on Grundy, one good tap in the forward pocket each game, could be an extra goal every game to us. One good tap in the middle could be another.

Yes I can see that. I have always been a Hunt fan. I stand to be corrected as I obviously don't know the actual figures, but if we assumed Hunt $400k, Hibbo $500k, Melk $500k and Baker $150k that is $1550m and say Bowes backended contract if $700k. We have $850k next year to use. Would you let Hunt go, delist Hibbo, Baker and Melk, get Bowes and pick7, a compo pick for Hunt and have more salary cap room to deal with? I would. Actually could still keep Hunt and be ahead on salary cap and have 7.

Fair enough, I am not an Accountant and was looking for benefits, but more money and a longer career may have some interest to a player.

    Agree.
  14. Redleg replied to Ouch!'s post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree, but are you sure that tier doesn't end at 7?
  15. Redleg replied to Ouch!'s post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
No, we are discussing what we pay for Grundy and IMO he has to come at a bargain price or forget it. They will sell, as we are the only buyer.

Correct. We are the ones helping with their problem not ours. We are in pole position here, I don't want to go back to near the end of the starting grid.

That was not what was reported and tbh most clubs would not be interested in that at all. What is the benefit then?

That is what has been reported though, that the Suns will look at 7 and Bowes, for his full contract to be taken over. What if we did that, got in Bowes and said we will give you a 3 year contract at say $500k a year, so he gets a bit less in the first two years but more over 3 years and has a 3 year deal which gives him some security and spreads his tax load.. We then have pick 7, along with the Jacko picks. What if Hunt leaves, who is probably on about $400k and we get a compo pick and have Bowes to replace him. We could move on Baker, Melk and Hibbo and be a fair bit ahead on our salary cap. Tomlinson may also go saving us another $500k. Can you see any other way we could get 7, which when added to the Jacko picks would give us the ability to add to our list with high end talent.
  19. From the point of view of someone who’s just had some old wounds reopened by this: I know only too well the unbearable pain of losing a baby (twice). But in my case, Nature/the Universe/whoever/ whatever decided this little person was not meant to live for whatever reason. I can’t begin to imagine what it must be like to have been forced to kill (let’s not mince words) your own unborn child. It’s unconscionable. For this reason alone, there’s simply no way this can be diluted and then eventually forgotten about. Postface: this has nothing to do with ProLife/ProChoice. These are very brave posts by WCW and DEEfence and they should be commended for sharing very private and painful memories. The world must get better and the good will lead the way. PS can a mod fix this post please to show both posts I am referring to.

To get pick 7, I would look at taking Bowes for 2 years and clearing some some room to accomodate him. Baker, Melk and Hibbo would probably be more than enough and there is uncertainty over Hunt and Tomlinson. Hunt as a free agent would give us a compo pick if he left and Tomlinson would free up another $500k for 2 years. Added to the Jacko trade, we could get some really good young talent that our ladder position wouldn’t give us access to ordinarily. This could be monumental for the next few years, as we bring in un gettable talent, while still being a flag contender.

I understand that, but it’s an illustration of the reward to a club that helps another salary dump. We are helping with about $3.5m in salary dumping and should be being rewarded, as there is no other club that Grundy will go to. Therefore we get a pick, or give a low pick, or there is no salary dump. Giving a first rounder in these circumstances, where it’s coming from the Pies to move him on, would be ridiculous IMO.
  23. Interesting if he gets the job, as the Bombers sacked Rutten to get an experienced senior coach, but didn’t. Looks like we might need a new Assistant Coach.
  24. Redleg replied to Ouch!'s post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
For all those suggesting we give a first round pick for Grundy, the Suns have put pick 7 on the table for any club that takes Bowes and his last two years of a back ended contract. That’s right you buy pick 7 by taking on Bowes and his contract. As I posted earlier, we should offer a low pick, or an exchange of picks, as we are taking on a 5 year salary dump.

Is that game still on this weekend?
