  1. It was not wet last week, Hughes is a spud and i hope he will not be back. List Clogger of the highest caliber.

Cheap shot on a guy who has worked against the odds to get a run! He has my admiration just through his shear guts and determination to hang in there and not throw the towel in when, no doubt, the temptation must have been there many times over the journey.

And I, for one, would be thrilled if he ends up half as good as that other "spud" ("spud" Frawley -- or his nephew, "chip", for that matter)!

Hold your head up high, Danny, and continue to improve! Some of us are right behind you...

  2. In this day and age, there seems to be an increasing amount of players shaving down/waxing (filling in time). I know some players do it because they might be going a bit thin on top, having lost some feathers. But there are others who I sometimes wonder about.

Not sure to what extreme some guys take this waxing nonsense to. But, surely there'd still be some hair at least 3cm long on SOME part of the body that a determined examiner could find...?

If so, and the person was subsequently found through that hair test to be a drug user, could it rightly be said they had him by the short & curlies...??

(Yep, another slow & dull day at the office! LOL)

  3. The general trend in the AFL has been to increasingly value the Athlete as a footballer. Many footballers are exceptional athletes, but in numerous cases the lesser skilled player is still tolerated. At Melbourne our coaches are lagging behind other teams in solving this matter. We continue to play footballers with skill way below final four level. If it is believed they can develop the required skill they should do this in the VFL. They wear Red and Blue so we love them, but Bartram, the great survivor Miller, Spencer (to early to play him) Bell, Dunne (disappointing, are all holding the team back. Why do supporters see but the coaching team don't?

Guess dem dumb coaches are not as smart as the brilliant supporters on this forum. Time to switch roles...? (LOL)

  4. When was the last time Miller kicked a goal* though? :)

    * err, we're not talking about casey now

We all know Miller's kicking for goal is a little erratic. However, a few weeks back (yes, for Casey) at Southport I witnessed him slot two rippers. Both set shots from near the boundary, around 50 metres out. Was great to see, and certainly something I'd love to see him replicate tomorrow night in Darwin.

  5. Great to see Wona & Morton in for their first games this year.

I know some reckon Wona is very lucky. But, he has had runs the past four weeks, so surely he should be back to some sort of fitness. And, it is rather nice he gets to strut his stuff up in Darwin on indigenous round. Just hope he is able to give a reasonable showing, and repay the faith the match committee is showing in him.

Think Hughes is a bit stiff. Would have liked to see him get another week or two.

Think Warnock is a good move. Not required this week, so give him a rest before the coming, big games.

    Go Dees!

  6. Agree. We need to score goals and we need forward pressure, he does both and he knows the conditions.

Even if it is charity, the kid has been through a year and a half of hell, what a way to boost morale. I just hope he gets through it uninjured.

Yep. Ticks most of the boxes for me. Horses for courses. And this "horse" is from a "course" not too far removed from the heat and humidity of Darwin.

  7. Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, like GNF I hadn't seen it, but had seen plenty of people expecting and claiming the opposite so I thought the matter worthy of its own thread.

No need to apologise. Your comments have been appreciated by several of us already. Keep up the positive posts. Poor blighters like me, stuck thousands of km from the action, drink up all the inside goss we can get.

    Well done.

  8. This is NOT NEW. Ricky told at least 2 Demonlanders 3 weeks ago that he will be at our club post this year. Also it has been recorded on two other threads previously.

Maybe not new. But I, for one, never tire of hearing good news, especially when it relates to the MFC...

  9. one of the next boys to sign on the dotted line is going to Ricky Petterd.

If true, excellent news! What we've all been hoping for!

(Only time I wanna see young Ricky running around up here on local turf is when the Mighty Dees venture up here to take on the new team!)

    Go Dees!

  10. Well done, guys! Why turn on the TV to watch a Soap Opera, when you can get it all, right here, on good ole Demonland!

This thread has had it all. It started out as a legitimate rant against Essendon & the AFL for the joke of a clash jumper that Essendon has gotten away with. It has since done the rounds with lots of talk about our own clash jumper. It also degenerated into a brawl between some of our resident markeing "experts". Now, it even has some mid-thread changes of identity!

    Love it!

Sure added a bit of spice to an otherwise slow Thursday arvo in my office!

Oh. And by the way. GO DEES!!

  11. i will have a crack at this one, always hard to pick what the FD is thinking

INS: Morton, Jetta/Wonna, Gysberts, Miller, MacDonald

OUTS: Bate, Bruce, Rivers, Johnson, Hughes

More run is required, we were just to big and slow last week

I agree with your INS (all 6 of them!) But, not so sure about the OUTS. Bate & Bruce if they are injured, and possibly Sylvia if he is injured or in a form slump. But the other three to make way? Hmm...!

Can we have 6 INS, and only 3 OUTS??? (LOL)

Guess that's what the Selectors are paid the big bucks for...

  12. Let's not forget he's what we got in exchange for McLean. Here's hoping in a year or so we'll be just as happy with this deal as we are with the Johnstone/Grimes deal...!

Looking forward to seeing the kid on the big stage!

  13. If we give in and wear white we will convince they AFL that all is sweet cherry pie. They will take no action and it will be expected that we will forgoe our jumper each time we meet The Scum. Make no mistake.

So in essence nothing will be achieved, The Dons go on the merry way without following the same rules as all other 15 clubs have.

Agreed, Balls! Time to draw a line in the sand...!

  14. The point I'm making is, Essendons away jumper is what it is. We've come up with a design [unlike Collingwood] and the AFL has approved it.

So now we have to deal with what we have. Everyone is carrying on about "the arrogant Bombers", well Essendon have an away strip, and will wear if told to. I think peoples anger should be at the AFL, not Essendon.

I keep saying that I agree, Melbourne shouldn't have to wear an away strip for a home game, but for the sake of this match, if it turns out that Essendons away jumper doesn't differ enough from Melbournes home jumper, use common sense, and after this season, get the AFL to change Essendons away strip for future games. It ain't going to change between now and when we play you.

On Sunday, common sense prevailed, well done St Kilda.

And, the point is, the AFL should never have approved that joke of an "away jumper". It does not solve the clash problem that away jumpers are supposed to solve! It makes a complete mockery of the AFL and the rules it supposedly requires all teams to follow. Whoever approved that jumper needs a good kick up the rear!

And, Balls is right re Collingwood. Collingwood DOES have a clash jumper. It's all white on the majority of the back, instead of the black on the home jumper. It therefore does not clash with anyone except possibly Nth Melb. It's certainly WAY ahead of the Essendon joke.

The fault with this fiasco lies equally with BOTH Essendon AND the AFL. With Essendon, because their joke of a clash jumper clearly does not comply with the requirement of avoiding a clash, and is a cynical response at best. With the AFL, because they have been too weak to stand up to Essendon and read the riot act to them.

  15. I have been a fan of Colin Sylvia ever since he came to the club. The man could be the complete footballer if he wanted to.

He is powerful, he is able to win clearances by breaking packs and charging through the congestion.

He is a ferocious tackler and is able to hunt opponents down.

He is a terrific mark, fantastic leap, strong hands, good on a lead with great timing. A Huge pack mark.

He can kick big goals, long bombs from outside fifty or over the shoulder snaps.

He has great skills, hand and foot, can evade, can run, can carry and pin-point passes.

When he has the ball, he has footy smarts, usually gives it to the best option.

And he has the charisma to will the team to victory. He can be genuinely exciting.

    He is the complete package.

    in summary;

He is a beast like Todd Viney

He is mecurial and exciting like Allan Jakovich

He can take pack marks like David Schwarz

He can impose his strength like Stephen Tingay

If only he had the desire of James McDonald.

To be honest, he is on the verge of being dropped.

Exceptionally well put! I agree with everything you've written. It's kinda like Travis Johnstone revisited. In both cases, they have teased us with their potential to the point of extreme torture.

Colin gave us hints last year, and I think we all salivated at the prospect of him dominating this season.

Alas, to this point, we have again been left shaking our heads and lamenting unfulfilled dreams.

Ah! The lot of a Melbourne supporter...!!

  16. Agree completely, guys! MFC needs to serve notice on the AFL. Give Essendon 7 weeks to get their act together and to fall in line with the rest of the competition. On July 11 Melb will be wearing their traditional strip, and Essendon MUST present on that day in a predominantly WHITE strip. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSES ACCEPTED!!!!!!!

If the other teams can do it, so can they! (Even Collingwood have at least made an effort, by changing the predominantly black backs of their home jumpers to predominantly white backs for their clash jumper. So have St Kilda.

    IT'S TIME!
